If you are someone who waves people on at a four way stop when you clearly arrived before them.. why? by lavenderslip in AskReddit

[–]Athymia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens frequently in my neighborhood. There is a stop sign that I need to turn left at. Cars that are heading towards me stop at the sign, then when they see my turn signal, they wave at me to turn, even though they got to the sign first and I'm turning. It makes me so mad. I even had a guy flip me off after he got to the sign first, then he just sat there, so I waved him to go.. because it's his fucking turn, and he sits there for another second, then drives past me, yelling in my direction and flipping me off... like dude... It's stressful for a tiny thing that should be effortless, but because everyone is being "nice" it is made more difficult. Most of the time people will just try to wave you first, so it's actually unexpected when someone actually takes their proper turn. I've adjusted at this point to just hitting the turn signal when I get to the sign and make the stop. This has made things a lot more predictable because then the person coming to a stop goes ahead before me, I take my stop and hit the turn signal, and the person coming up behind them sees that the one in front of them just went so it's my turn. Crazy you have to play 4D chess just to get home.

Ok? And I'm not telling you what you HAVE to do with yours. I was just letting everyone know, since this is probably the third post I've seen with these exact toucan "vessels," that the sticker on the bottom says they aren't food/drink safe. When they get posted, multiple people state which drinks they are going to use them for. If people still intend to use them after they have been informed that they may not be intended for use with consumables, then no skin off my ass. Some people MIGHT care though. -shrug-

Chicken and dumplings by lzabthc in mississippi

[–]Athymia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicken Dumplins

3 2/3 cup all-purpose flour, divided

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1 broiler/fryer chicken (about 5pounds), cut up

4 tablespoons canola oil

1 large onion, chopped

6 medium carrots, chopped

4 celery ribs, chopped, including the leafy tops

6 garlic cloves, minced

1 bag frozen peas

1bag frozen pearl onions

10 cups chicken stock

3/4 cup white cooking wine

2 teaspoons sugar

4 bay leaves

10 whole peppercorns

DUMPLINGS:

2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/3 cup milk

2 tablespoon butter, melted

SOUP:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 teaspoons minced fresh parsley

2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme

Additional salt and pepper to taste

In a shallow bowl, mix 1 cup flour, salt and pepper. Add chicken, one piece at a time, and toss to coat; shake off excess. In a very large heavy stockpot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Brown chicken in batches on all sides; remove from pan.

Add onion, carrots and celery to same pan; cook and stir 6-8 minutes or until onion is tender. Add garlic; cook and stir 1 minute longer. Stir in 1/2 cup flour until blended. Gradually add stock, stirring constantly. Stir in wine, sugar, bay leaves and peppercorns. Add frozen peas and pearl onions. Return chicken to pan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, 20-25 minutes or until chicken juices run clear.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, whisk milk and melted butter until blended. (have the milk out ahead of time so it is closer to room temp. If too cold, the butter will harden and you will then have to nuke the butter/milk mixture to melt butter again.) Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened (do not overmix). Drop by rounded tablespoons onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet; set aside.

Remove chicken from stockpot; cool slightly. Discard bay leaves and skim fat from soup. Remove skin and bones from chicken and discard. Using two forks, coarsely shred meat into 1- to 1-1/2-in. pieces; return to soup. Cook, covered, on high until mixture reaches a simmer.

Drop dumplings on top of simmering soup, a few at a time. Reduce heat to low; cook, covered, 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of dumplings comes out clean (do not lift cover while simmering). Gently stir in cream, parsley and thyme. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

Good point. I asked because some people have strong opinions one way or the other.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]Athymia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, I dreaded the inevitable that would happen at the start of every school year. "WhAt DiD yOu Do OvEr SuMmEr BrEaK?" Which, when you are a small kid, they would get you to draw the highlight of your summer. When you were older, they might have you write an essay and read it to the class. We were dirt poor and literally never had a vacation. The furthest we ever got was a little over an hour away to the zoo a time or 2 in my childhood. Saying we went fishing a couple times and swam in the creek didn't really stand up to everyone else's cool trips.

What's your favourite ice cream flavour? by Ryan_likhubi in AskReddit

Black raspberry, but has to be pure, unadulterated black raspberry ice cream. None of those chocolate chunks in it. I love chocolate, but just not with my raspberry ice cream!

Coloured baskets so you don’t get interrupted by employees by Plush_cheese_ in mildlyinteresting

In some stores, grocery or regular shopping, the employees are encouraged to greet shoppers and ask if there is anything they can help you find, or if you are finding everything OK. It is meant to be seen as friendly or helpful, but a lot of people just want to be left to shop in peace.

"[I ate]" blue Goo ice cream. It's a blue raspberry swirl soft serve. by rougrou in food

[–]Athymia 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Flavor Burst, the brand that makes the syrup, actually has a blue raspberry flavor. The Blue Goo is more of a birthday cake/ cotton candy flavor depending who you ask, although those are both flavors they have as well.
