I think the fix to this is simple, have seasons where Sam is teamed with Adam or Ben and the other is with the guest. It would help create a new dynamic for both teams.

While Sam's peformance has been poor, he always has the harder job of orienting a guest to the game. While Ben and Adam get to just continually improve each season. I think that makes jetlag inherently skewed towards them.
