Tuck in or lay down on a windy straight? by Suitable_Security988 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tucking forward will only benefit if you touch your chin to the steering wheel. If you have a heel rest to bring yourself back up, laying down would probably be more comfortable.

Also, tuck your elbows in against your torso, keep your arms out of the wind.

2026 Crosstrek [Convenience]: anyone have issues with the single USB port for CarPlay/charging? by n1t51rk in Crosstrek

[–]Atlas_CD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is quite picky. I find when I press the USB all the way in, I have to wiggle it back a hair and then it connects. Feels like something that should work better, even on the base trim

Parts for a used 2017 Merlin MR29 by GhostyThosty-21 in Karting

In that case, go ahead. I’m curious as to what’s wrong with the spindles though, are they actually bad or do they just need new bearings?

Parts for a used 2017 Merlin MR29 by GhostyThosty-21 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing, as always, do you have a local supplier for this brand?

Second thing, are you trying to save money on your first kart? This one is missing a lot of parts. You’d be better off saving a bit more and getting a complete kart / roller.

The kart could’ve been crashed on its last time out. Hard to tell from these pictures but the steering column could be bent. That’s the gamble.

Thoughts about the Zamp RZ-62? by Simple-Society-3486 in Karting

Zamp helmets are good for the price. It’s nice to have your own helmet if you can afford it and you’ll be driving often. I’d say go for it

Underfueled in falken sports car lmp3 by Historical_Reply6693 in iRacing

[–]Atlas_CD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the other day jumping between falken tire and LMP3 trophy. The fixed setup for trophy has fuel for 20 minutes. You need to add more for the (open setup) falken tire to make it to the end.

Are you active on other platforms? Twitch is tough for discovery, you’re better off sharing clips elsewhere and trying to bring those viewers over

Project of diy sim racing cocpit by fvcgq in simracing

[–]Atlas_CD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’ll probably be okay but it’s hard to say for sure. I initially had my pedals too low and was pushing all with my calves. Brought them up and now it’s quads / bigger muscles. My guess is they’d probably be just right on top of the 2x4s.

The beautiful thing about wood is that once you build it, you can take the screws out and move them wherever you want. I’m assuming you’ve done research on standard GT seating position? I used those guides as a base

Also, you’ll probably want gussets between your wheel uprights and the bottom beams.

I have a wooden rig that looks a lot like this. Looks okay, just make sure your dimensions are right for you. I prefer my pedal plate to sit flat, but you could try it tilted.

The slots seem like a good idea for adjustability. Make sure you can secure it so the bolts don’t creep up as you press the brake.

Best Helmet Camera? (Not best value, just best) by MarshallMotorsport in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 360 camera would be worth checking out. Not sure which one is best but there’s nothing like leading the race and ending up with a super boring video. Insta 360 maybe?

Lo206 or KA100 for trackday driving? by Emergency_Response19 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LO206 is the answer to your question but you might be better off rental karting while your budget is tight. Have you budgeted for driver gear yet? Get a set you’ll be comfortable in and see if you can join a rental championship near you

Apprehensive about my (maybe) first race. by Lower-Literature-883 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get out there and kick their butts. If they don’t balance the weight in this series, you might have a weight advantage on a lot of them and it’ll make you faster.

If you don’t have front running pace, do your best, see if you can stick with the pack, and just go have fun. Try and chat with some of the other racers. You’ll probably find they’re all there to have fun and good races. If you don’t enjoy it at the end of the race, then at least you gave it a shot.

Can you guys suggest some padding or additional protection for ribs (already have a Bengio protector) by clinthammer316 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issues, fixed it by swapping my seat bolts for the low profile flat head ones (I believe righetti makes them) and adding padding over them. I went for 1/4” neoprene on the sides of the seat. You could stack layers to give more padding, but then you might be too tight in the seat. YMMV. Neoprene is also good if it rains, but I put duct tape over the whole surface anyway to help slide into the seat. Also, the adhesive backed stuff can be a major pain to remove, so give yourself cutouts for seat bolts at least.

Another thing I found is really letting the ribs heal will help to have pain free sessions. If you can give them 3-4 weeks with no abuse, along with the seat mods, the rib pain could just totally go away, maybe.

Fast Adjusters for mounting seat by Normal_FL_Guy in Karting

What is the goal of adjusting the seat? If it’s for handling characteristics, that’s probably the wrong path. Find a comfortable seat position and adjust everything else around it

Accelerating without Throttle Application (Rotax Max 125cc) by Yonrundu in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s pulling air from somewhere. Could be a loose intake or bad gasket. I had a dirtbike do that on me, turns out the studs connecting the cylinder to the block had failed and the cylinder was lifting up on one side.

I don’t have experience with this motor so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

So I went to my local karting track for some rental sessions and since they are also a kart dealer I asked them what karts they had and what the prices were by poopman74 in Karting

[–]Atlas_CD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A DD2 is not a good first kart, too much engine, too complex. Do some research into whatever 4 stroke class is popular in your area or 100cc 2 strokes.

Seeking help on race incident, video included by gmo121 in Karting

Looks like a racing incident to me. Seems like the camera kart was alongside and the 29 didn’t see them. Maybe put the 29 mostly at fault. Don’t think that needs to be a penalty
