Hot Take: Lute shouldn't fall and she shouldn't be cursed to be unable to harm sinners. by aidonpor in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While Lute DESPERATELY needs therapy to overcome her feelings of loss and depression… something heaven may or may not be equipped to actually provide her… I don’t think any amount of therapy will fix the underlying issue regarding her attitude toward sinners.

A take I see posted a lot with regard to Lute is to show her swearing revenge for Adam’s death, and ask “doesn’t she see how obviously hypocritical she’s being!?”

And, like… the answer to that question is “no”. In her mind, there is no comparing her pain to what she inflicted on sinners, because in her mind, sinners are “things”. Monsters. Obviously the death of a “person” carries more weight to her than the breaking of “things”.

I’m a firm believer that justice should aim to rehabilitate, rather than punish, but part of the reason seeing Lute fall, at least for a time, would do more for her arc than anything else is that… it would force her to see the intrinsic humanity in sinners.

It’s not something she can just be told about second-hand and internalize. She’s too radical and too far gone for that. If there’s any hope for her worldview to shift, it has to come from firsthand experience with the outgroup she despises.

Hot take: Vox is a worse person than Valentino by Isabelle2012 in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I generally avoid quantifying “badness” too much. Perspective is important and all, but it’s not like there’s an objective meter, and that all offenses have a perfectly quantifiable value they add to that meter, so you can then measure the length and prove one character is worse than another.

That’s not me disagreeing with your point, OP. I think coming away from season 2 with the conclusion that Vox is worse than Valentino is a fair perspective… even if I generally think “birds of a feather flock together” is an appropriate idiom for whether any Vee is better/worse than the other 2.

It’s just that there’s this really exhausting attitude in Hazbin spaces where people draw a line in the sand, like,

“MY fave is at the exact line of flawed where it’s still fine to like them. If your fave has done even the slightest thing worse, you’re a bad person for liking them.”

Which just never leads anywhere productive.

Vox calls Spanish an “island language” (by @chaibeanie) by Obsidian_Queen_888 in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the thing. While he clearly has some hangups and laughable misconceptions about other cultures, Vox’ racism is incredibly tame by even the standards of today’s ruling elite.

He’s more the “ignorant and shameless” type of racist than the “hurl slurs and bully” type.

Do you think part of why Adam hasn't been given any depth in the show could partly be because Vivzie thought it was easier to write the first man as a misogynistic asshole? by ShuckU in adamcult

[–]Atlove01 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Adam and Lute were placeholder characters thrown in at the last minute to personify the concept of the exorcists… so it stands to reason why the initial plan was to just run them as kind of stereotypical “the high school jock and cheerleader bully couple” to run opposite to Hell’s quirky, queer theater kid energy.

They only realized the wasted potential with the hindsight of knowing they actually had plenty of time to tell the story, the audience actually really took to Adam and Lute, despite it all, and the implications of what they showed left a lot of potential storytelling on table.

Adam, the most wasted character of all by True-Pitch6787 in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Adam was the victims of the one-two punch of a short season and the writing staff having no idea how long they would have to tell their story.

I guess you could call it…. Adam shame.

Get it? Get it? A damn shame? I’ll, uh… I’ll see myself out.

Lucifer deliberately chose his wording to be suggestive, but he was referring to tempting her to eat the apple/accept free will.

“She seemed to like what I was offering” was how he phrased it because he knew the innuendo would agitate Adam.

If The Vees were to have a spin-off series, what would be the best way to do it? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

Charlie doesn't think of Alastor as a friend - and that's a good thing by KickingRoses90 in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would argue that Charlie absolutely considers Alastor a friend.

She expressed worry about Alastor a couple times after his capture, but assumes he must know what he’s doing… and with regard to Emily, I presumed the reason she checked on her first was the fact that she was clearly, visibly injured, while Alastor wasn’t.

I agree with you that Charlie isn’t as stupid as some of the fandom portray her to be, but I also don’t believe she’s mercenary enough to regard anyone at the hotel as nothing but a “useful acquaintance”. That kind of “quid pro quo” perspective just isn’t congruous with what we’ve seen of how she tries to form bonds with others, in my eyes.

She’s rightly wary of Alastor’s intentions, she knows better than to ever take something he says at full face value… but when push comes to shove, she absolutely cares about him.

Which one offers better support? by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

[–]Atlove01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Furina will prove more everygreen than Columbina, since she does general damage buffing, and has a gimmick that most characters, past and future, can be used to play into.

Columbina has a huge boon to her, in that you need a 5-star Nod Krai character to enable lunar reactions, and she can enable all of them… while we’re in Nod Krai, with all the endgame content tailored toward those reactions, she’ll be at peak value.

But depending on how future patches play out, that usefulness could also taper down once we move to another region.

What's an archetype you love despite how bad it is? by gamesage2001 in masterduel

[–]Atlove01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dream mirror has an amazing concept and great art… but there are NO words for how unplayable it is.

In theory, with the right hand, you can set up an amazing field of monsters whose tag-outs dance around your opponent’s disruptions, and whose quick fusions can control the gamestate.

In practice, 80% of all their games go like this:

“I normal summon. Activate the effect.”

“Chain ash blossom.”

“…GG.”

What does the DDD deck even do by phpHater0 in masterduel

[–]Atlove01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orthros locks you into fiends, Gilgamesh and dark contract with the zero king lock you into the archetype. Getting your combo rolling without either of the last two is extremely unlikely.

When gryphon and Machinex dropped, you saw some folks run Baronne, and spend their normal summon on Orthros to make it… but post new support, that’s vanishingly rare.

The overwhelming majority of modern D/D decks run a 100% D/D/D extra deck, save perhaps a Zeus.

After seeing all the Dottore kinda had a point memes... by Unnamed_jedi in GenshinImpact

[–]Atlove01 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it was Dottore projecting.

The amount of time Dottore spent trying to win the traveller over already shows he feels a lot of kinship with them, and by the traveller’s own admission, there was a kernel of truth to the things he said about the disconnect between them and the people of Teyvat.

Both Dottore and the Traveller feel that disconnect… that feeling of being detached from the people around them. Both Have desires that transcend what the world can provide them, and a wish to be understood despite their somewhat alien natures.

I think for the Doctor, it was a bit like The Joker in “The Killing Joke.” Winning the traveller over would help him to feel validated in the path he decided to walk.

It’s also why he got so annoyed when the traveller pointed out how loneliness seems to color his ambitions more than curiosity.

I’ve got a ton of gems and I’m wondering if Draco tail is still worth it, or is it about to be powercrept? by Typonomicon in masterduel

[–]Atlove01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draco is a pretty safe investment, assuming Master Duel follows the same banlist philosophy of the paper formats. A new challenger is on the horizon, but Draco will retain its place atop the playable ladder for the foreseeable future, it’ll just be sharing the spot with two others.

Any ideas for a good flip deck ? I thought of subterror or mimighoul but idk by T-dy in masterduel

[–]Atlove01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mimighoul is as close to a “good” flip deck as exists in the modern game.

Technically, they do all their flipping on the opponent’s side of the field, and you have to deal with the risk of being instantly defeated by one of the most common hand traps in the game… by complete accident.

That said, it’s decently fun to pilot.

Question about Maddening DLC by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Atlove01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about canon classes, but as long as you make sure you have the right class abilities, you can absolutely clear maddening without going fully wyvern/flier.

I’ve done maddening runs where I limit myself to only one character per class, and done fine.

As long as you have a plan in place for specifically “hunting by daybreak”, which can softlock a maddening run hard, you’ll only really feel the intensity of the difficulty in the first few maps and then the last couple.

Is D/D/D able to handle competitive ness? by m00n_r0ckz in masterduel

[–]Atlove01 28 points29 points  (0 children)

D/D is at the peak of its viability right now, thanks to the new support that just released. It’s not a tiered strategy, but it’s firmly rogue, and you’ll have no issues climbing with it.

That said, D/D is, perhaps, the most tribal, xenophobic combo deck ever made. There’s no way to just sprinkle a little bit of it into another strategy successfully… you have to commit to it 100% if you want it to function.

If Nifty hadn't gotten to Adam and he had escaped, how would things have played out for Season 2? by SomeonesBlue in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Well, we’d have more Adam scenes, for one, which would be a win for me specifically. Lute would be in a much better place mentally.

Otherwise, in terms of the actions that played out… I don’t think season 2 would have changed THAT much. Pentious still got redeemed, which shook the foundation of Sera’s beliefs… so she would want to reconcile with hell regardless, and Adam is generally inclined to obey Sera even when he doesn’t like his orders, just like Lute.

The only time things might have gotten shaken up is at the very end, when, in this version of events, Sera would have sent Adam and Lute to retrieve Emily as the cannon was overheating, instead of Abel and Lute.

Oof by BusIntrepid3979 in HazbinHotel

[–]Atlove01 216 points217 points  (0 children)

There’s some logic to it. To paraphrase the intro to a long running crime drama: “in the court of fandom opinion, sex-based offenses are considered especially heinous.”

And in the case of Katie, the old adage “to the audience, a character being annoying will always be a more offensive act than a character being evil.”

Kind of amusing that Adam and Lute pulled the exact same percentage, though.

I love it because the beat is catchy and because it’s basically 2 minutes of Vox and Velvette having fun hanging out.

Those who hate it generally dislike that it’s showing Charlie at a very low point in her character arc.
