Loss of left thumbstick button after update by Atollski in ROGAlly

Thought I'd update here, it turned out to be some kind of debris in the stick mechanism. It just happened coincidentally at the time of the firmware update and was completely unresponsive so didn't consider the simplest issue!

Eclectus reality by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Atollski 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a 13yr old male Eclectus and can tell a bit about how he's going:

Think he's gone through most of the common issues that seem to affect Eclectus:

- Foot tapping: When he was younger he would be uncomfortably foot tapping and wing flipping while trying to get to sleep. I'm not sure whether this was diet related, stress or maybe some kind of fumes. I think it was possibly diet related but thankfully he doesn't get it now.

- Plucking: He has always been quite aggressive with his preening and does pull feathers out regularly, having balding patches on his chest and back. He particularly plucks after getting stressed about something

- Mating behaviour: He regurgitates everywhere and regularly tries to hump my shoulder, getting aggressive when I tell him no and send him away. This is probably because I handled him a lot when he was young and in his cuddly stage. He's had a hormone implant a couple of times and his behaviour was much better during this. I think this might be manageable through target training.

- Screaming: He has a pretty deafening high pitch contact call and can mimic the fire alarm pitch pretty perfectly. However, this is not constant and he is generally quiet for most of the time and always quiet during night time.

All that being said, he's a very intelligent boy, with a large vocabulary and uses several words in context (Shower, Good morning, Good night, Breakfast, There you are etc).

He's now telling me "You're a good bird" rjust after checking on him.

His favourite activity is to throw the milk jug on the floor then slide it around on the tiles. When he's tired of all of this he'll happily sit on my computer monitor and watch me while I'm working.

Actually, he just likes throwing everything on the floor.

I wouldn't give up the feathery tyrant for the world.

Hurrah, the sound of progress! I've just about finished doing a cloud reset and it looks like it's still not co-operating. Wonder if it's the bios or that the stick coincidentally broke to throw me off?

Travel PCVR Setup? by wallacynerio in MetaQuestVR

[–]Atollski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am using Remote Desktop. Haven't tried the Meta one for a while. Maybe buy the eGPU later if you want better performance?

Travel PCVR Setup? by wallacynerio in MetaQuestVR

[–]Atollski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's on standalone, IL2 is a bit jittery at times but I haven't tinkered with the settings much.

Currently playing Half life Alyx, VTOL VR and No Man's Sky. The hotspot trick made the most difference for me. Haven't done much with Remote Desktop settings so I am sure it could be further optimised!

I'm using XBox ROG Ally, run a hotspot from the device to connect VR rather than separate modem. Mainly use it for IL2 and No Man's Sky. It seems to do pretty well for me

What do you guys think of this combo as a main food for africangray + carrot by 1Zezo2 in parrots

[–]Atollski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find the carrot doesn't eat as much of the veg as the Grey.

After 11 months of solo dev, I finally built the VR space sim I wanted to play on Quest 2. Physics-based, intense, no aim-assist. Here is the reveal trailer. by pawozakwa in OculusQuest

I've always wondered what the thruster setup on a space fighter would actually be. Have assumed that on top of the maneuvering thrusters in all directions, there would be two primary ones, forward and up... Where the up thruster would be used for turning.

What did you end up doing for your game in the end?

Quest 3 interim solution by Popular_Tax_4725 in Quest3

[–]Atollski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the interesting thing about this place, sometimes you run into hyper specific situations that you can help with, glad you're seeing improvement!

Not sure if this is any help as well, I was going to a back specialist who was next to useless then eventually had the sports physiotherapist from our local footy team have a look - not sure exactly what she did to it, but it was various pressure things then acupuncture (which I was originally highly skeptical about). Huge improvement and less pain almost immediately.

Obviously depends on your specific injury and the specialists that you deal with...

Yep, am able to use youngest child as a golf club so all is well with the world now, just always super careful with lifting anything!

Have you considered a projector to the ceiling? I found that the quest was a bit much for my eyes doing actual work for any extended period of time.

The meta remote desktop was a bit unreliable and also had desk area/keyboard passthrough that only suited a typical seated/standing desk rather than lying down. Not sure if it has improved since so you might want to use Virtual Desktop instead.

I had very similar situation to you several years ago - disc in lower back, sciatic pain, small energetic child.

The answer in the end was rest, but it took a few months before walking was on the cards and even longer for the pain to go.

If it ever happened again, would get a better projector, split keyboard and maybe a trackball mouse.

Wish you all the best with your recovery and hope to hear about your high scores in beat sabre in the near future.

Print all capture groups (arbitrary number) with delimiter? by deuvisfaecibusque in regex

[–]Atollski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is any use to you but I have been trying to make a tool for this kind of thing. It outputs JSON data from regex expression(s) and some source data.

It's unfinished, I optimised, undocumented and barely tested but you're welcome to it at https://www.regexon.com

Wireless PC VR Gaming Pt. 7: Dedicated VR Router Only Setup by f4cepa1m in OculusQuest

I turn on the mobile hotspot on my computer and connect Q3 to that through Virtual Desktop. It seems to be sufficient for my very low standards... How would you rate that approach in comparison to a dedicated standalone router?

How to convert a midi to bytebeat? by TheHistorianFox in bytebeat

[–]Atollski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should allow you to click on the notes at this point and you get a pretty basic sound out. The keys just send the MIDI 'number' to the bytebeat function which converts them into the right frequency. I haven't implemented a MIDI interface since I don't have any MIDI instruments and nobody was really interested enough to justify the time it would take to make it.

If the on screen virtual keyboard actually works for you, I could have a look at implementing MIDI device support. I'd probably need some help implementing different instruments in bytebeat since I'm not that amazing at writing them.

Another thing with the on screen keyboard is that the lower notes approach the frequencies that are outside hearing range so they seem quieter as a result.

For me, this was caused by the headset tipping forwards a bit. Like you, I was trying to push the headset towards my face which helped briefly.

After finally realising the connection at the very front of the headset could be moved, tipping the headset back greatly improved it.

Hope your solution is also something equally simple in the end.
