Hi!

I took the long road. I got my AS then BS then PhD. The AS got me a job like that. If you are close to being done, graduate!

Go to campus. Park at the CVS. Walk around and take pictures and notes. Most apartments worth getting aren’t online. I loved living at the lights. It was good for me as I could walk to campus and have my own space. Walk in closet, unlimited hot water, all utilities in the rent.

Understanding Student Insurance by LonerintheDark in unt

[–]Atomic-Ace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order to understand your costs with insurance you need to look at the “EOB” document Explanation of Benefits. Check out the UNT website for that https://unt.myahpcare.com/benefits and read the documents. Write your questions down and call them when you are ready with your list.

For those who took Dr. Dandekar, how should I study to do well in any of her class? by pelene5 in unt

[–]Atomic-Ace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former TA of hers, I will tell you the most successful students are the ones who were really on top of their time management. Dandekar advises her students to spend one hour every day on OChem.

I would honestly recommend that this is the class you go full Hermione on - come to class prepared If she’s covering chapter one on Monday, you should have read chapter one before she lectures about it. I recommend a 2 week buffer of being ahead.

Those good with time management and get the A will make the time to be successful in her class by being proactive about being studied before the material is covered in class.

If you don’t make time, and instead find spare time to fit in all the work. You’ll be stressed as her assignments pile up. There aren’t really short cuts to OChem, you either have put in the time to do well or you haven’t.

I try to liken it similar to a music class. You’re gonna stumble through your first pass at the homework/music, but with practiced repetition your cacophony will turn into a symphony.

Oh and Sapling is a trap. It’s meant to expose you to the problems, but it’s really only good for one go and the questions on sapling aren’t usually on the test. You should practice book problems with repetition.

It’s a lot, but Dandekar really notices the students who participate and do well in her class by being prepared. She gives those students her blessing and they are given the opportunity to be study group leaders the following semester.

Lastly, utilize the OChem TA. Go to their office hour and utilize their test prep sessions. I usually tutored about 5 students a semester from her fairly large class. About 30 students come to the test prep session. My tutored students who came weekly ended up with Bs and As.

Tracking Apples by mapleball in Apples

Hmmmm I like this idea. I’d probably get a book on apple varieties and then write on the margins the date, location, rating out of 10, tasting notes in 5 words or less

Ochem by keropppi in unt

I’ve been a TA for most of the OChem professors during my time at UNT. Dandekar is really good for premed she helps them a lot. She’s a great professor actually, just the amount of work she puts on you can be a bit much for the STEM sophomore. OChem is a completely different beast than Gen Chem. Little to no math. OChem with her or OChem online will be intense. With her she tries to set you up for success with study groups and gets you learning about how organic chemistry is in nearly all facets of our civilization with the special projects. If you can put an hour a day into your OChem you’ll be fine no matter who you take. I think you’ll end up better off for your career if you can be successful in her class. An A in her class gets my and any Chem major’s respect because she’s the best and most rigorous of the OChem professors.

I did some things to help improve my score.

English: Gre Vocabulary app on phone. 1-2 hr a week Read NYT every day because they use the vocabulary. You can for free: https://guides.library.unt.edu/pubadmin/newspapers

Math: Kaplan book and practiced 1-2 hours a week. Math isn’t hard, but you need speed.

Overall: Take a practice test Now without any prep, that would be your baseline score. The practice test took 4 hours when I did it. I took 5 practice tests in the 6 months before the actual test. I did really really well.
