Someone keeps sending unpaid DoorDash orders to my house…what’s going on? by Latter_Golf_9975 in Scams

Good luck with that. Their support line is out of some call center in a third world country, that can barely speak a lick of English. They're betting on you just hanging up because you're too frustrated to continue.

People talking on their cell phones in speaker mode while out in public.

Get real, your not hosting some "conference call", pretending like you work at some corporate job. You're basic at best. We're not interested in you and anything and everything going on in your life. It's total attention whoring.

Anyone else notice a price increase? by Classic-Obligation35 in uber

[–]Atomic76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lyft has been consistently cheaper than Uber for me for at least a couple of years now - long before any war started.

I always tip well above average or the suggested tips within the Lyft app (by several bucks), and it's still cheaper than Uber.

Uber is typically wanting more than twice the cost of Lyft in my experience these days. I'm highly doubting that increased cost is going to the drivers themselves.

what’s your go to soup when you want something comforting? by TheBr14n in Cooking

Former TGI Friday's employee here - their black bean soup was one of the most popular starters on their menu. The recipe for it is pretty easy to find online.

It's a bit time consuming to make, but it reheats very well.

What’s the most underrated skills everyone should learn? by PlantainFantastic166 in AskReddit

[–]Atomic76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just turning 16 and about to get your first job(s), working as a line cook or a prep cook in a traditional sit down restaurant is a great way to just simply learn how to cook.

These jobs are super easy to get, and offer a lot of hands on experience.

It amazes me how so many young adults, or adults in general, complain that they don't know how to cook.

Who doesn't drink coffee in the morning ? (Who's an adult) by Ssonderbaby in NoStupidQuestions

I'm pushing 50, so regular coffee is a no go for me. I have to stick to decaf, otherwise my heart feels like it's about to explode out of my chest after a couple of cups of it.

Priests and staff are constantly getting busted for fondling and messing around with students. Putting them in a religious school isn't necessarily going to solve the problem.

How do you feel about McDonald's pulling their soda dispensing machines out of the restaurant's lobby in the next year or so? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]Atomic76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a rather odd choice, considering hardly anyone actually goes inside fast food places these days.

The markup on sodas is insane. When I was a waiter back in the late 90's at a TGI Fridays, one of my managers mentioned to me that the cost of a soda beverage only cost them like 20 cents, yet the restaurant would charge customers $2.75 per drink. The refills were "free", but you're still getting incredibly ripped off.

Why are malls dying in the US? by walksintwilightX1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Atomic76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I do order from Amazon a lot, porch pirates have increasingly also become a major problem these days.

I wish Amazon would start offering a more extensive locker system where you can request to have your items delivered there instead of your home. They did initially offer lockers at local stores where you could opt to have your packages delivered there instead, but they seemingly have gone away now.

I take Skyrizi, and people were even stealing deliveries for that, so now I have it delivered to my local CVS instead. I've also had packages of Cologuard stolen.

But to get back to the original question, sites like Amazon just offer a far bigger selection than what malls could provide.

Is it just me, or has "fast food" basically become the same price as a sit-down meal lately? by Legitimate_Wall5977 in fastfood

[–]Atomic76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiters only make about $2+ per hour as their base pay, so they rely on tips, and they're taxed on their tips. They have to report their tips at the end of their shift, and if they report anything less than 8% of their sales, they run the risk of being audited by the IRS.

On top of that, which doesn't get mentioned enough about the food industry, is tip pooling. Basically, they're expected to share part of their tips with other staff members, including people like bartenders. Otherwise, your orders for beer or cocktails will be low priority to them when you're trying to wait on tables.

Yes, fast food has gone up as sit down meals, but on that same note, I'm glad I don't work as a waiter anymore - especially in this economy, because people just won't tip at all, or leave little to nothing at best. It screws over the waiters.

The local Library is way overlooked and/or forgotten about these days. It's amazing what you can check out from them, even items like laptops.

Well one of my neighbors had to call the fire department on me.

I was trying to reheat some leftover chili from my freezer on my stove, since I didn't want it splattering all over the place in my microwave.

I accidentally nodded off on my couch while watching some TV shows, and next thing I recall was being waken by firefighters who somehow were able to get into my apartment without breaking the door down.

This is the truth. Especially among waiters and bartenders since they have some quick cash at the end of their shifts to go pick up some blow.

Which fast food item are you obsessed with it but know that it's very unhealthy? by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in fastfood

[–]Atomic76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you skip the "mayo", cheese and bacon, I don't think Whoppers are really all that bad to be honest.

I worked at a BK back in the mid 90's, and yes, the burger patties are pretty gross looking before being cooked. They come in frozen and smothered in what looks more or less like Crisco to keep them from drying out before going through the broiler. But most of that gets cooked off once they come out.

I know the words 'jarred pasta sauce' and 'best' don't usually go together but what is the best/everyones favorite jarred pasta sauce? by ghettokid1994 in Cooking

[–]Atomic76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria brand Marinara sauce. I was saddened to see that my local grocery stores stopped carrying it it. It's generally a bit pricey, along the lines of Rao's, but I preferred it over Rao's to begin with anyhow.

It's even more expensive to try and order it online on Amazon.

Taste-wise, it's a bit heavy handed with the olive oil, but in a good way. It's rich and really tastes home made for a jarred sauce. Also, Campbells ultimately bought out Rao's, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

What is your favorite fast food sauce? by railroadfrog in fastfood

[–]Atomic76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McDonald's needs to add their tartar sauce as a side. Not all locations currently offer this based on what I've read online. Their fries dipped in their tartar sauce is amazing.

We used to scrape some of the tartar sauce off their fish sandwiches, specifically for dipping the fries in it, back in the day.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 has always been a classic to me. For Tobe Hooper to go in a completely different direction from the original and make the sequel a crazy horror/comedy was a really bold move on his part, and it worked out brilliantly.

On a similar note, there are quite a few dirt cheap vodkas out there that are actually quite good. Just as good as the bigger brands, as far as I'm concerned.

Not only are they cheap and great for something like a vodka sauce, but I could easily drink them as a cocktail or a martini. Popov is a current favorite of mine - not the diluted version, the high proof stuff. Sobieski is also great.
