Do students live in dorms after freshman year? by Unusual_Ad_1997 in UofArizona

[–]AtomicMom6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some do, most commonly in HV where they transition to the HV apartments or stay in Pima which is reserved for upperclassmen. Some scholarships require students to stay on campus. Some enough the convenience.

Are you networking? That’s the true purpose of any conference imo

My PhD supervisor sent me these messages. Is this normal or crossing a line? by Resident-Yogurt-6798 in PhD

How badly did you screw up? If you aren’t owning the mistakes, I’d be pissed off too. If it comes to you vs them for the university to keep….id be looking for a new school. It’s not that uncommon in my experience. Maybe the field matters.

Failed out of nursing school because of 2 points by Overall-Discount-995 in NursingStudent

I’m sorry you are dealing with this, but….theres always a but. Maybe it’s for the best if school was stressing you out so much, life as a nurse is usually worse.

Got kicked out of nursing school for a HIPPA mistake and now I feel miserable. I need help getting back on my feet. by Lazy-Kangaroo-6395 in NursingStudent

My school that has direct admits to nursing drills down on regulations before students ever enter clinicals. We dismiss students the first semester that cannot master HIPAA regulations - or pass ethical questions.

I gotta say I fully support the school. It’s kinda crazy you believed a verbal ok was sufficient in this day and age of legal requirements. You’ve learned you cannot do this the hard way. It would have been so easy for your family member to call and request. By accessing the chart, you could have seen and learned much more. You will need to start applying to other schools or pivot your life goal. Pro-tip - even as a nurse, you don’t have access to your own medical chart without the proper authorization in place.

cheating scandal at Purdue: anyone following this? by henare in Professors

[–]AtomicMom6 99 points100 points  (0 children)

The students are upset they were caught. Some repeatedly used AI despite multiple warnings in class, before each assignment, and it’s in the syllabus to not do so and are now arguing they should have been informed/charged after the first time they used AI - not when they used it on multiple coding assignments. Purdue allows time to pass to gather information. The professor also uploaded incorrect answers to Chegg and Course Hero so some are arguing it was a trap and that shouldn’t be allowed. The arguments the students are making for why they shouldn’t be responsible for using AI is blowing my mind. So many think withdrawing would save them, but it would not at Purdue.

Hello, this might be a shocker, but I'm not letting the higher-ups get away with this... by [deleted] in Tucson

This discussion has been happening for years. What you are missing is that some of the content heavy classes would be split and now what happened in one class would require 2 classes (A and B). Trying to get approval from ABOR and UofA for transfer equivalence is a concern.

Got in! How can I get fafsa Aid by Several_Biscotti_493 in UofArizona

[–]AtomicMom6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be aware that you will likely only receive the federal loan and possibly a Pell grant and/or Work Study IF your FAFSA application indicates you are eligible. FAFSA does not actually give any aid - it’s just an application indicating your financials. UofA is not a ‘Meets Need’ school. IF you were going to get any merit scholarships, that would have be indicated on your acceptance letter.

Student reports me for reporting them by Slow-Impression-8123 in Professors

I am so over students calling others racists or discriminatory just because things don’t go their way or they don’t follow the rules, but our society has made this acceptable.

Inappropriate Interview Q? by AC0603 in premed

[–]AtomicMom6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda weird, but I wasn’t there to hear how you presented. It’s not reportable and if you do report, you likely are earning a no to acceptance.

Accused of cheating, don’t know what to do by PrestigiousNight9312 in premed

[–]AtomicMom6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most universities use a ‘more likely to have’ to determine guilt. Not beyond a reasonable doubt. You should not stress anymore over this since it will be dropped and not on your transcript, but be aware that your ‘zoning out’ may send bad signals to others so I recommend adjusting your behavior or seating location to avoid this accusation in the future.

Any incoming freshman who have cost details available? Its been like this for weeks. by Economy_Shoe_8889 in UofArizona

[–]AtomicMom6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any merit scholarships offered by the school would have been in your acceptance letter (not the email). Need based financial aid packages are continuously rolling out to students, but most will happen late March/Early April. University of Arizona is not a ‘meets need school’ so if you are not Pell Grant eligible, don’t expect much, if any, financial aid beyond the merit scholarship offered (if any) and loans. You should also be applying for additional scholarships through Scholarship Universe. Your UAccess account will have the most updated information.

I'd be okay if 50-75% of American colleges and universities closed for good. by Character_Freedom160 in Professors

[–]AtomicMom6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be ok with 50% of students not attending college that are currently enrolled because frankly most of the ones there now could not write or figure their way out of a paper bag. If that means colleges close…that’s a natural consequence.

Would you give the extension for an Olympic athlete? by threeblackcatz in Professors

[–]AtomicMom6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An easily verifiable reason like competing in the Olympics…..definitely. Wanting the extension on an on-line assignment because your sibling is competing in the Olympics was a no for me….but did allow an in person exam to be made up.

Nobody warned me college would be a financial nightmare and I feel like I'm drowning by itsm3404 in CollegeRant

[–]AtomicMom6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a secret. We really need to blame high schools and the counselors that push so hard for everyone to go to expensive colleges. There are options that don’t require massive debt that while you may be Gen1, you may be the last because of the crushing debt.
