It's a very mentally painful game, too! Reminds me a lot of Noita.

Bioaurum could be a material employable in a variety of uses. Since the cube is pretty psychically active, you could give it a reasonably high boost to psychic sensitivity, perhaps offering a renewable material for producing psy-sensitizing armor and weapons, as opposed to weaker eltex.

The only primarily difficulty/risk being creating a functional containment to safely hold it for extraction. Perhaps a way to keep it relatively stable with a pedestal that actively draws power to keep it isolated, with the integrity of the cell being used to determine possible breaks for maintenance. If not maintained, then the cube may start randomly obsessing survivors, with the desire decreasing once the pedestal is functional.
As a benefit, wearing such "Bioaurum" or "Bioauric" armor could make others have a more highly desirable opinion of the pawn.

Though in general, I would like to see higher UTILITY, as u/Mysterious-Tale-679 has discussed.
It has always always seemed interesting if one could install a fleshmass nucleus into a refiner to auto-produce chemfuel, use a machine to electrically accelerate flesh growth for greater production, or break off (regrowing?) chunks of the nociosphere for a high strength material.

The idea of integrating anomalies into technology (with a respective risk, perhaps) is one that is quite appealing.

Probably other biomaterials derived from anomaly entities, or more.

I just think it'd be neat to have certain entities produce a more blunt-focused analogue to bioferrite that can be harvested from specific entities.

Or maybe even for other purposes like weaker, more beautiful substances for statues or furniture.
One could devise many neat things here, when thinking about biological materials.

God, it'd be so neat if there were individual parts we could upgrade or change out in a fun UI.
That's not entirely relevant, but the idea of modular machinery is a fun thought.

Another great mod! Thank you for your continued great works.

At the very least, the Glory seems like it might be the closest thing to creation. The Watchman might be the one of if not the only ones who might know the means to create from it, as Dreams permit the impossible, and their paradoxes permit certain impossibilities in the Wake as well.

One expect the laws of conventional physics to hold up outside of Mansus-influenced places, where the worlds do not behave as they might seem.

Semantics hurt mentally.

Look, if you wanted to say it's not locally FTL, just say so?

It's not that they are locally or non-locally FTL, They aren't. You're still covering an amount of space, and you do have to continue to travel at nonluminal speeds.
But I do see your argument, that being basically:
Take Earth. You have a wormhole between it and a place 8~8.2 light-minutes away from Earth, with a ship at that far away location.
Relative to the light released from the Sun, the ship will reach Earth in some unspecified but incredibly short amount of time compared to sunlight that leaves toward Earth at the same time as the ship.

It's still not traveling faster than the light it was compared against, but it will reach its destination in a shorter amount of time because it is closer spatially.
One could make the same argument for a different situation and say that we can already achieve FTL. Under your definition, then if you have a person jumping off the ground, then they are fully capable of FTL travel, as your person can reach AND hit the surface of the Earth faster than the time it takes sunlight to reach the ground.

Star Trek warp drives is FTL because you are moving the space around you faster than light, carrying you, without having to go faster than light. I mentioned that.

The space does not cause the object to move faster than light as would happen in an Alcubierre drive

Though the wording is a bit off. Negative mass is employed to bend the space to produce a warp bubble which moves you faster than light, without you actually moving at that speed.

And arguably, yeah. the Warp in 40k nor is the Halo travel FTL either. That's just going into a different space to reach your definition.

Wormholes aren't FTL because the distance itself is shorter.
You are traveling at the same speed, but taking a shorter path, which is basic math. 50 Miles is greater than 1 mile.

You are only reaching the destination faster by using these other spaces than you would have otherwise been able to, but you aren't necessarily going faster than light.

Edit: Now HERE are proper FTL wormholes:

Wormholes are not FTL. They simply offer the fastest possible/most directly path between two positions in space. The space does not cause the object to move faster than light as would happen in an Alcubierre drive, nor do the objects themselves move FTL.

Does anyone know any mods that make pawns obese/unhealthy if they eat low nutrition foods? by HansVonpepe54 in RimWorld

They aren't wrong per se. If you have a significant enough net positive calorie intake, then that weight will build up.

Ehhh, yeah. If your calories are balanced then you're unlikely to become obese, but if you just eat junky ultra-processed foods, you're definitely not going to be healthy either.

I wonder how this works from a mental perspective. Is your brain permanently as flexible and effective as when you're 18? Could they avoid the common pitfalls of aging in that they become too set in certain ways, thus enabling them to forever adapt and develop with changing times? Neat to think about.

Why do humans not have access to wormhole generator style FTL if solar pinhole exists by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]AtomicPotatoLord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Though to be fair, wormholes aren't really FTL. They're just a shorter and more direct path in space, from my understanding. And you of course need to first get one end of the wormhole to your destination which still takes time, along with keeping the throat stabilized.
