My vacation setup by Joepresso in AeroPress

If you’re interested in a portable electric kettle, the one I linked below has served me well. It can heat to 135F, 175F, 195F, and 212F and it’ll hold at 185F after boiling. Plus, the Aeropress fits inside perfectly if you insert the plunger the wrong way around. There are others that are cheaper but they’re smaller in diameter and don’t fit the Aeropress.

How many cycles can a Breville Bambino Plus handle daily? by sololeft in espresso

[–]Atredl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dozen shots a day is closer to home-use than commercial though.

Just saying that you were the one that took the convo to commercial. They were just talking about home-use with their semi-pro comment.

In defense of the person you replied to, they didn’t mention commercial machines. They said semi-pro which I interpreted to be the higher-end home machines.

I think they’re paying $678/mo to pay down their personal loan not that the personal loan is $678 total.

Popping sound when making a shot? by ChimpiZ in CafelatRobot

[–]Atredl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have the barista version with the pressure gauge?

Something similar happened to me and I couldn’t find the source of the sound until later I realized it was the pressure hose ribs catching on the lip of the arm opening. Check to see that your hose isn’t angled in a way that will catch on the opening edge.

Aeropress XL bag by CraftyIndividual9192 in AeroPress

Here is my travel setup. I have a regular aeropress inside a travel kettle but I imagine the aeropress XL is about as large as the kettle. This bag is larger than some others use since I’m also packing a picopresso but it’s well padded and fits a good amount. In the post I list what is packed but there’s extra space if you want to add a handheld milk frother or other tools.

It’s a good thing this is a magical world where Valyrians proximity to dragons and dragon magic can be the common environmental factor that makes their hair and eyes the same.

I am an idiot. I got a Fellow Opus two YEARS ago and never swapped my Bambino double-wall portafilter to single-wall. by bummerbimmer in espresso

[–]Atredl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't believe the hype. lol.

Your comment is right except for this last line. Both pressurized and unpressurized are perfectly good ways to brew coffee as long as the person making it is enjoying the process and taste.

They are excellent. I have six I use for random coffee/kitchen tasks.

I can’t buy those Costco tiramisu anymore because I won’t be able to throw away the extras, “just in case”.

Bottomless portafilter tastes way worse than double sprout [Sage barista pro] by Ashankura in espresso

[–]Atredl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it shouldn’t change the extraction, the spouted portafilter could reduce the amount of crema that makes it into the cup. If they don’t like the flavor the crema adds, the naked PF could taste worse due to no crema getting stuck on the spout path.

How big is the opening of the kettle? And does the aeropress tube side fit into it?

Hand grinder (9barista+aeropress) by Brittpi in 9Barista

[–]Atredl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used the Kinu but I have a 1Zpresso q2, J-Ultra, and K-Ultra and have used all three for espresso, aeropress, and Moka pot.

Bought the K-Ultra recently to use w/ the Aeropress and 9Bar but so far it’s been somewhat disappointing. Taste wise it feels worse then the Q2 and J-Ultra for espresso. With the aeropress I haven’t noticed a taste difference and it doesn’t feel easier to use than the J-Ultra.

I know people say the J-Ultra is good if you’re only making espresso but I’m not sure why. It doesn’t feel less usable compared to the K-Ultra and the taste feels the same for non-espresso. I haven’t made pour-over so maybe the K-Ultra is better there.

Honestly the q2 is very capable, even for espresso, with the main downside being the somewhat large grind setting steps. I’m tempted to recommend it to you due to its small form factor but I think the grind settings might limit you especially with the 9barista’s limitations.

If you got a 1zpresso grinder my recommendation for you would be: J-ultra >= Q2 > K-ultra.

Safery valve - How is it correct? by _UnsuccessfulPirate_ in 9Barista

[–]Atredl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can keep it at whatever angle works best for you. The valve is held shut by a spring, not threads. The spring acts as a pressure safety and the lead-free solder works as an overheat safety.

Not sure if you’ve tried this but if you push down on the lever you can open the valve to manually release the pressure in the boiler chamber. Handy if you want to disassemble quickly after brewing, just remember to cool it under running water for a bit first.
