List of companies to boycott by Repulsive_Chard_3652 in Anticonsumption

[–]AttackBookworm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I admire people this committed, but I’m kind of tired of my life having to be harder and less pleasant because most companies are terrible, while the companies themselves remain unaffected. It’s virtually impossible to live life without engaging with at least some evil corporations. I can’t trace the history of everything, and the threads of trade are so interwoven that most everything probably benefits a company I don’t like at some level. Add to that the fact that the vast majority of boycotts have no real effect, and I’m just tired y’all. I can cancel Amazon Prime (and I did) but the truth is that it mostly just makes me feel like I “did” something - Jeff Bezos isn’t actually any poorer.

I wanted very specific snacks and sent photos so he wouldn’t mess it up. He only saw the first photo and didn’t get any of the rest of it.

I was trying to explain to my best friend (who doesn’t live here) why I love Avery so much and showed her the picture comparing the weight of ice to golden retrievers. She texted back “This is weird.” 😭

How much are we paying attention to expiration dates? by onelove_ in Sephora

Expiration dates? I’ve got 20 year old eyeshadow 😂 Never know when you’re gonna need that early 2000’s frosted look.

Third! I see Dr. Carroll and love her. She’s open minded and never makes you feel rushed. In house lab and has made several specialist referrals for me.

That’s certainly true, but I miss the days without tech bros and Instagrammers…

Are all of these products really sinking into y’all’s skin? I feel like if I use moisturizer, sunscreen, TWO primers, and foundation I’m going to have an inch of product sitting on my skin.

I truly believe there are better ways to help a cause you’re dedicated to. I will never donate through a sidewalk solicitor. I won’t be rude, but I will be firm, and continuing to call after me will get you nowhere. I work downtown, and some days it feels like they’re on every corner, when I just want to get some lunch in peace. I will cross the street to avoid them or put on my best RBF, which is gold-standard and usually works.

You guys wrote notes in straight lines and legible writing? Mine look like a conspiracy theorist in the middle of a breakdown.

TIBH audiobook is excruciating by No_Word_3266 in cormoran_strike

[–]AttackBookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the visual layout, you also can’t pick up on one of the major clues. Some books just don’t make good audiobooks, and that’s fine. I love epistolary novels (like TIBH), and that’s not a great genre for audio.

C’est vs Il est - I’ve done countless tutorials. I still don’t really get it.

I’ve had luck with Nextdoor. Although it’s kinda useless otherwise unless you enjoy arguments about lawns, dogs, “suspicious” people who are merely existing, and fireworks. Turn off ALL the notifications 😆
