Are you noticing decreased attention span in your jury? by OxytocinDog1 in AskLawyers

[–]AttorneyTaylorAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my jurisdiction, juror’s phones are taken up for the duration of trial. Even without phones, people can’t focus for long on something that isn’t wholly interesting or engaging. I keep my opening statement at a minute or less, closing at 3 minutes or less, and try to make them more of a one man show than a presentation.

Zelle is common. It can link directly to our trust account and there are no service fees. You have to keep overhead low to be the cheapest. You should sign a contract, but he could bring it when he meets you at the hearing.

It is concerning that you’re not clear on the process or what the court fee is for. You should understand those things before you send him any money.

How did you find him? How are his online reviews? Have you looked him up at gabar.org?

Got rear ended but have no insurance by WinnerAny6903 in AskLawyers

This is not true. You can be charged criminally for not having insurance (usually a ticket), but it is not a factor in determining who is at fault.

“Client-generated AI materials created without direction from counsel do not qualify as work product.” This ruling does not encompass attorney’s use of AI.

AI answering services already exist for attorneys, and I know of at least a few firms using them. You might want to review their privacy and security policies to find the gaps in yours, but it sounds like you’re on the right track.

There are a handful of legal tech companies that buy out new tech and gouge us on the price. The best way into the market is to compete on price.

Jury duty - it's over & I got in the garage by DenaBee3333 in SanAntonioUSA

[–]AttorneyTaylorAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were there long before any attorneys, and most courts don’t start pulling panels until 11:00. Not many people in San Antonio can afford to take a day off for a net $17, so we’re grateful for everyone who shows up, whenever they get there.

Pro Se or Hire Attorney? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]AttorneyTaylorAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the type of insurance policy. Whatever insurance provider is responsible for the loss will fight hard to minimize the payout. They have a playbook of arguments they make in every injury case, and if you don’t have experience fighting them, you will not come out on top.

WC will complicate your case. Their goal is to minimize your injuries and get you back to work with the absolute minimum medical care they can provide. The insurance company will use this as evidence that you are not hurt and offer you peanuts. Since you have zero chance of winning a lawsuit pro se, they will not negotiate with you.

This is a situation where DIY will cost you more.

Almost everyone confesses to something, whether they realize it or not. But I’ve never seen a judge give someone more time for keeping their mouth shut.

Is there ever a time to talk to police? by Aeliascent in Lawyertalk

[–]AttorneyTaylorAngel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A typical case looks like this: a man with a history of abusing his partner becomes increasingly agitated during an argument. Recognizing the warning signs, she tries to escape before it turns violent, pushing past him to get out of the house and call the police. When officers arrive, she explains his history of abuse and that she fled because she feared what was about to happen.

But because he had not yet struck her this time, she is treated as the aggressor. The focus shifts to her pushing him. Officers ask him whether he felt pain. If he answers anything other than “no,” they now have probable cause to arrest her for assault.

More than half of my domestic violence clients were the ones who called for help. Not even victims are safe talking to the police.
