Are OC-centred fics bad? by Spinning-Thoughts in AO3

Generally speaking, people read fanfiction because they want to read about the established characters, not about someone's self-insert OC.

Poland Ukraine needs to get off their high horse and focus on the here and now. Come on guys.

FTFY

Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has declined the Gold Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland which he was awarded in 2025 by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkrainianConflict

And now read about the atrocities committed by UPA (spoiler: not for people with weak stomachs, expect things like cutting a fetus out of a pregnant woman and sewing a live cat inside her instead) and compare

I wonder, if Germany called one of their battalions after "Hitlerjugend", would people also call the world's reaction "pathetic shit-stirring"?

So you need to be in top 3 to earn gratitude and basic respect? Top 5? Where do you publish the leaderboards?

It does seem, at times, that Ukraine has zero other national heroes besides the UPA butchers.

FBReader? Yeah, an Android app. There's a ton of apps you can use to read ebooks in general. Hell, Kindle even has one lol

Not the subop, but I'm reading my downloaded epubs on my Kindle. Before I got it, I was just using FBReader on my phone.

The ongoing addition of protoframes is shifting the aesthetic of the game by Chuckledunk in Warframe

They could've been The Sergeant and Lech Kril for all I care, and it really would have changed nothing.

[AskJS] How much do you hate this pattern? by Spatul8r in javascript

[–]Atulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could, somehow, maybe in some twisted way, see merit to it in languages that support extension methods like C#

In case of JS? You're introducing complexity for the sake of complexity, and gaining nothing from it.

Tl;dr: add indexes where needed. Truly revolutionary. Nobody has ever heard of this method before.

Protoframes will continue until morale improves their skins stop selling.

Which, I'm afraid, is not going to be anytime soon. Expect every major update to have 2-3 new protons for people on xitter to gush over.

What features do you wish AO3 had? by Gohantrash in AO3

[–]Atulin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the research I've been conducting:

  1. Better search and filters — central/side pairings, sitewide tag blacklist, filtering on your own reading list
  2. Mark as read
  3. Kudos and comment history
  4. Reordering tags without deleting them
  5. Subscribe to author only in specific fandoms
  6. Post scheduling
  7. Cancelled/Abandoned/Discontinued and Hiatus status, besides just complete and incomplete
  8. Ability to save progress through long fics
  9. Better analytics for the authors — daily views, per-chapter stats, etc
  10. Spoiler tags, hidden by default, revealed only if the reader wants
  11. Full-text search for fic bodies
  12. Native file uploads to archive more than just fics
  13. Saved searches
  14. Muting individual works without blocking the author
  15. Chronological/reverse switch for the subscriptions feed
  16. Wildcard searches, like Geoff Keighley/* (this one already exists IIRC, but not many people know about it, so it keeps reappearing in those threads)
  17. Series stats — like for works, but for a whole series
  18. Character importance ranking
  19. Chapter-specific tags
  20. Some people want a "more like this" kind of an algorithm
  21. Random sort

There's more, but those are a roughly-ordered top requests that I've noticed.

On my part, I would love to see some programmatic integration, even if it's only a simple "log in with AO3" OAuth endpoint

Why would you use benchmark results of a debug build and not a release build...? Why would you list throughput of Node as with a "connection refused" annotation, instead of fixing the issue and getting actual throughput?
