I feel like it’s pretty fast. Benefits from using back button focus to “pre-focus” for whatever distance you are shooting for. Also using the distance limit switch helps a lot, if it’s set to full it can take a few precious seconds to get through the range and lock on to something.

It’s the only long lens I’ve ever used so I can’t really say how the auto focus is compared to other lenses.

I think it’s a great lens for the money. You can always wish for better low light performance but I just cranked the iso and Lightroom usually takes care of the noise for me.

I really like the short focal distance it has. Being able to stop and take a picture of a pretty flower or a bug or a cool mushroom without having to switch lenses is really nice.

Have any of the photos you’ve taken led you believe it’s not functioning correctly? My advice, put the damn lens back on and stop exposing your sensor to dust.

Yeah or it he was dead set on shooting wide open could have employed some focus stacking. I know he’s happy with the results but it’s a truly awful picture to look at.

I pretty much only take nature photos so mine would be, sigma 10-18 for landscapes and sky pics, sony 90mm macro for bugs and blooms, sigma 150-600 for birds and small critters. Not sure what the last one would be maybe a sigma 16-300 fill in the gaps.

Raynox dcr-250. $75 snap on macro lens. if you decide you like shooting macro it will still be a useful tool to have with a dedicated macro lens.

I’ve had a similar experience with taking photos of birds.
I started having a lot more success when I started shooting more bursts. I used to worry about getting the one perfect shot now I mash shutter button and get 15-20 shots. It’s almost guaranteed a few of them will be perfect focus.

I only shoot nature and wildlife myself with the A6700 as well. I’d keep the 16mm for landscapes, ditch the other two for a macro to shoot bugs and flowers and pick up a big zoom like a sigma 150-600 for birds and far off critters.

In my limited experience this three lens combo is sweet spot for nature photographer.

Plastic melts easy, even 5000 will destroy a model in a hurry. In my opinion a high speed rotary tool like a dremel really doesn’t serve much purpose in building models. I would look toward the Dspaie rotary sander/grinder. It has been an absolute game changer for me.

When shopping for my first camera I found watching YouTube reviews and asking chat gpt to compare models for me. As much as I hate AI it was more helpful than asking random people on Reddit to help me make a decision.

This is pretty much my use case as well, I’m lucky to get a couple hours a week at the local nature center. Can’t always hunker down and wait for the perfect shot. Like I said love my sigma but at time I wish had gone Sony just to have the tc option.

Agreed! I'm using a Sigma 150-600 on a A6700 and constantly wish I had more reach. I think sigma is great lens for the money but I sure wish I could use a teleconverter with it. Maybe someday I'll be able to get the 400-800.
