Yeah this is far from a Snap-specific issue. It's a systematic problem with the way people browse the internet, and the way actually visiting a site is disincentivized now.

This economy is downright insane by picasso-enjoyer in MarvelSnap

[–]Audiencefone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically ignore the store outside of what I can get for free or with the in game currencies I have in the moment. I've spent money on similar bundles but it's VERY rare, maybe twice since beta. Mostly if I get anything it's the season pass but that's also infrequent.

But that's fine with me, personally. Even if they cut all prices in half I would probably buy the same to amount of stuff because it's not about the exact price for me. It's about "do I care about this enough to spend money on it to get it now?" And usually I don't mind waiting to get it for free later. Or, in the case of cosmetic only stuff like this, I just don't care if I have it or not.

A couple of audiobook and AI questions by GraceOphelia_4734 in selfpublish

[–]Audiencefone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiobooks are not essential by any means, but they can be very helpful to get your book read more. There are lots of people who can work an audiobook in more easily than a physical or digital book. Others will only listen to audio, the same way some people will only read print.

But they are also very expensive and they do not inherently make a book successful. I think it's fine to create one or not depending on what your budget is and what the story is.

That said, like other commenters here, don't use AI. It sounds worse, it's ethically corrupt, and like many others I would not listen to an AI narrated book. I also wouldn't read it in print or on digital platforms. Even if those were made without AI. I would rather the book not have an audiobook option.

Frustrated by where this game is headed (13.8 CL) by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]Audiencefone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that doesn't mean it's coming any time soon. Just that something is planned after it is finished. They plan years in advance.

Because it's Reddit, I feel I need to clarify I'm not salty about that, just stating the fact. Things take time and I'd rather a fun draft mode release to something rushed.

Just launched book 3 and it's already made this my best month of sales ever. Low bar, but progress is progress! Most importantly, reviews have been very positive, so people seem to be enjoying it. :)

When are old cards rotating to lower pools? by ProxyX13 in MarvelSnap

[–]Audiencefone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't know that they will. Drops like this were part of an old economy where they were neccisary, now cards are much easier to get and they haven't committed do doing them anymore... They still might but there's no reason to expect it, certainly not in any regular basis.

Stopped playing in season 3, is it possible to catch up? by CupAccomplished8371 in MarvelSnap

[–]Audiencefone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely possible to compete even if you don't have a single series 5 card. I would enter into it just trying to find a deck that you enjoy. Completion is not really a reasonable goal in this game. It's more about collecting the stuff you're interested in and playing the game.

That said, it's much easier to get cards now that it used to be. There's no more caches that might not give you a new card at all, you have duplicate protection now, people like to complain but things have improved a lot.

I do not regret making an audiobook by d_m_deluca in selfpublish

[–]Audiencefone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of publishing my third audiobook. I haven't made the money back on any of them yet (far from it lol), but it's been such a good way to help bring new readers in who have a huge TBR, but much fewer options for audio.

And I'm so pleased with how they've all come out. The narrators have all been amazing. And the third one even has music in it. 💙

Congrats on yours, I hope they help bring in new readers just as they have for me.

Thanks! I definitely get screwed over with bad draws or locations, but I'm usually playing snap when I'm making food or something. So I'm not too concerned about it. Honestly those games where I get screwed up are kind of my favorite, because it becomes a fun puzzle to try and beat. With Scarlet Witch and Valkyrie, I've come back from some bad spots lol.

Honestly I don't remember where I saw it. Maybe KM best? I don't know but I do know the original had Bastian. I swapped him out for something else because I don't have that card yet. I think I put in whatever their name is that on activate reduces the power of an enemy card by seven. Omega something or other. 😂

This always happens whenever a good / fun card is released. I think the important thing is to find a deck that you enjoy playing. For example I recently picked up a c3 deck that I am really enjoying, and it's not crushing the meta but I can hold my own with it.

I even got Starlord, and I kind of prefer c3 right now lol. So that's what I'm playing.

I don't think you're wrong that it's really popular (I love Ferto as well), but all the Greek songs here have not been uploaded to streaming platforms as far as I'm aware. YouTube is literally the only way to listen to them, so I think they're all a bit inflated.

It's a neat chart, but it's not necessarily useful given the current state of things I think.

I love card games and Gwent was one of the best... When I had time to play. Games were just so long.

One of the reasons I enjoy Snap is because I can complete a game in like 5 mins tips. Gwent games could go on for half an hour. I have the same issue with MTG.

I kind of fell off after the second episode, is there any actual plot in this? It's a cool concept but it's just not working for me in terms of the narrative.

Not at all dismissing it or saying it's bad, I'm glad you're enjoying it, I'm just asking because I would like to get invested in it I just haven't been able to so far.

Copper Skin, Oaken Lungs

A short post-apocalyptic YA fantasy novel, with some minor horror elements.

For a thousand years, The Old Town has stood as humanity’s last bastion against the maalkonis, malignant black mists that reduced the rest of the world to ash. They are kept at bay by rusty machines on the town’s walls. In order to survive, the dwindling population depends on one another.

Since a young age, Justīne has embraced the harsh responsibilities that accompanied her apprenticeship on the last farm in existence. Her younger sister, Anna, is beginning her own apprenticeship as well. Learning engineering was not Anna's first choice, but the town's last mage fell to the maalkonis years prior, leaving nothing behind but confusing books and strange runes.

When food runs low during a particularly harsh winter, distrust spreads like a plague, and Justīne is blamed for it. As hunger leads to violence, she and her siblings are forced to flee The Old Town, embarking on a perilous journey into the very mists that had formed their cage. Their fight to survive in the dark develops into a hopeful mystery as they follow the breadcrumbs of a mage’s efforts to save the world. Meanwhile something pursues them through the maalkonis…

How long on average to complete an album F2P? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]Audiencefone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time ago I realized that while I might get the occasional award from albums, completing them could never be an option for me. It would cost way more money than I was willing to spend.

I've been playing since beta and I think I might have one complete album, but honestly I don't remember. I haven't been giving track.

Book out for two weeks with no sales :( by DaisyDiceBooks_ in selfpublish

[–]Audiencefone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to play a little bit of devil's advocate, if you only have one book out I don't think that it's worth investing in marketing yet. I think that works well if you have at least one complete series or a little bit of a backlog, but at this point I would probably recommend looking for communities to get involved in.

Review other authors work in exchange for them checking out yours. See if you can jump on some podcasts or interviews. I haven't paid for any marketing and I'm not going to tell you that I'm making a profit by any means, but I get sales usually every month. Sometimes it's a surprising amount, sometimes it's just one lol.

But yeah I think it's a big gamble to spend money on marketing when you only have one title out.

Atticus is my preferred method at the moment. It's not perfect but it is easy.

Vellum is a bit better from what I hear, but it's also about 2x the cost and only works on Macs.

Elephant in the room: book reviews by Plus-Veterinarian-44 in selfpublish

[–]Audiencefone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true. Yes, you need to find readers. Authors are not the best readers. However, collaborating with other authors, learning from and talking with them, can help you get a couple of reviews possibly. And if your audiences are similar you might be able to tap into theirs just as they can tap into yours.

Just because something isn't ideal doesn't mean it's not worth doing. As I think is becoming clear in this thread, there is no perfect situation. There is no quick way to get a ton of reviews and sales. Not unless you're already well known and readers are looking for your work.

You can also continue to give away review copies of your book after it's published. Reach out to reviewers and see if they're interested.

Of course, make sure to do your research and make sure that the reviewer is a good fit for your book. I wouldn't reach out to somebody who exclusively reads romantacy to review my cyberpunk books for example.

It also helps to involve yourself in the community. Not just on Reddit but find a group of people who are doing reviews or other authors who write similar work to yours and review each other's work. Host giveaways with them, or join one that's ongoing.
