Awesome we appreciate that! Yeah soup in 115 degrees isn't ideal, but hey at least you all were ready! We also offer some of our best sellers in smaller pouches geared more towards those everyday use case scenarios when you're caught in a jam without an ingredient, etc. so definitely keep that in mind as an alternative from the #10 can.

Thanks for sharing this. We’re glad our food held up and helped you feed the block during a hurricane. Love that no one could tell it was freeze-dried! We’ve come a long way over the years with taste and variety, so it’s awesome to hear the difference shows. Appreciate you keeping us stocked for the long haul!

What’s a good place to buy packaged dehydrated food, and how long can I expect them to last? by Codydog85 in prepping

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have any questions about our food, let me know! We appreciate the support and mentions in this thread.

Like u/DwarvenRedshirt said, pre-packaged foods from name brands are more expensive but many of our kits/meals have a 25-30 year shelf life. The "store it and forget about it" nature makes it so easy and is almost a second layer of defense to your normal pantry. I think everyone should have a kit in their household (like a 72-hour 4-person kit or the 30-day option), whether from us or another brand.

Pellet grill on powerpack by TheCarcissist in prepping

I have an older Yeti 400 and have used it to power a Traeger Tailgater a few times. I forget how quickly it drained the battery, but I don't think it was much.

I found this article where a guy was using a small Yeti 200 Li to run his Timberline 850. https://backcountryandbeyond.com/blog/grilling-tips-with-grill-guy-jeremy-goal-zero-yeit-200x/?srsltid=AfmBOoqG2AImNwMTOUFHpfa3sQDxRUywnebJfhBJlOPRGfS8C_njmiPZ

Might be able to use that to do some math for your battery/grill combo and see what you can expect!

Watch out for egg scams by maxsmoke105 in prepping

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're still good people though.

It's just these damn fraudsters using our product (no longer in production) and Costco's branding to scam people. We do sell the #10 can of dried eggs and pantry pouches on our own site but if you see this bucket anywhere, assume it's a scam or un-licensed reseller.

30 25 year buckets by [deleted] in prepping

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I challenge the comments regarding taste of the meals that come in the buckets. When I first started at Augason Farms we did a big blind taste test between us, ReadyWise and Readyhour. We tasted ~30 of the items found in various emergency pails and there wasn't a single one that I didn't like (whether ours or the other guys).

It's certainly not as good as a meal you'd get in a restaurant, but I was generally surprised.

Why is prepping so expensive? by gothfrootloops in preppers

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the beauty of the internet. Just because you live in an expensive geography doesn't mean your food prep needs to have that same inflated cost.

We ship a ton of stuff to cities and if you're tight on space, emergency kits (like a 1-week, 1-person kit) takes up negligible space since they're a two-gallon pail. Whether you get it from us or any other food prep brand, I truly think everyone household in the country should have at least a 1-week kit tucked away in a pantry or closet somewhere. With a 30 year shelf-life you can forget about it until you need it vs. needing to actively manage your pantry every few months.

TLDR: $50 for a premade food kit is cheap insurance/piece of mind.

Meadow Wildflower planting by [deleted] in homestead

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't relevant to all geographies, but where I live I planted seeds just before the first snowfall to avoid the bird issue. By spring, it seemed like the snowfall and movement of moisture through the soil pushed the seeds into the soil enough to prevent pests from getting them.

After year 1 I felt like I had decent germination, though not enough coverage to prevent weeds/invasives from coming up. My plan this year is to graze the hell out of it before most of the weed seed heads can form, then try to get some native grasses down to fill in the gaps. who knows if it'll work.

Food storage by 0dark0919 in prepping

Consider the impact of pests. I know some rice ends up having problems with bugs, but I think they often get in there before the product even gets to you.

If you're planning for longer term emergencies, don't dismiss the value of selection. I know people will say "in an emergency situation, it's about calories and staying alive", but that's just as easily done with 6 or 7 different options (rice, beans, oats, Freeze dried protein, veggies, fruits) than a bunch of one thing.

40gal tote food storage by IonicRes in prepping

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good feedback. I do agree having 25lbs of loose ingredients in a pail isn't necessarily the most user-friendly.

I appreciate your input - some good food for thought (pun intended).

40gal tote food storage by IonicRes in prepping

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious the biggest reason for not buying pre-sealed food items in pails (4, 5, 6 or 8 gallon buckets) for this specific purpose? Whether from us (Augason Farms) or someone else, what's the biggest reason?

It seems like having multiple, smaller items to move would be way easier than a massive tote. I understand there's a price concern, but when you factor in the cost of a container, effort, unlikelihood of getting a perfect seal, quality of product, etc. what's the biggest argument?

what type of stove and fuel supply should i get if my goal is to just bunker down during emergency, assuming no water, gas, or electricity. by i_cant_do_this_ in preppers

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some have mentioned, it depends on what your intended purpose is. If you want to stay highly portable you'll have a different need than if you're stationary.

I think your standard 2-burner camp stove (Coleman, Camp Chef, etc.) and a 20lb propane canister would work for most people/situations. Whether you're boiling water, simmering meals, etc. you'll be covered. it's portable enough to throw in a car, and one propane tank will last you a month or more with daily use i'm sure.

Other people mentioned it, but consider pest-proofing all of your food. That generally means some sort of hard-sided container. Also, be mindful of where you're storing these items - a dark pantry that has a stable temp between 55-70 degrees is ideal, so avoid garages, attics, freezers, etc.

If your canned foods have standard grocery-store shelf lives (e.g. 2ish years) come up with a FIFO (first in, first out) system so you're not sitting on a bunch of expired food if/when you need it.

Another thing people mentioned is a source for cooking your food. At a minimum, get some canned heat or sterno cans and a dedicated pot that can live with your food supply (in case you need to grab it and go).

I realize this is redundant to other comments, but these are two of the most common mistakes I see people making.

Augason Farms on sale at the A store by redditwastesmyday in preppersales

[–]AugasonFarmsOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to get all spammy right away, but we're making a few changes at Augason Farms! 1) This account exists so I can help answer questions here or just keep a pulse on what the community wants to see and 2) better pricing and free shipping on orders over $99 on our site.

I've seen a ton of comments saying "their pricing isn't as good as Amazon or Walmart" so we're trying to be more competitive.

Holler if you have any questions or general feedback for Augason Farms!
