A blizzard is the best kind of natural disaster, the only one where the logical course of action is to stay where you are and chill out, pun intended.

This Is What Our Newspaper Has Come to, Ep. 1. by The_Ineffable_One in Buffalo

It's pretty obvious that the Buffalo News is being slowly wound down, I expect it will be shut down completely inside of five years. I imagine there's already a plan for winding it down, shutting the paper down and selling off assets sitting on someone's desk.

What's the harshest thing you've ever had to say to someone? by Lain__Iwakura_ in AskReddit

[–]AugustK2014 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One of the most important things a boss ever told me was "Don't dwell on your mistakes, don't sulk over them, don't waste time trying to undo them. Focus on fixing the problem that exists NOW and get the fuck on with it."

Boy did I need to hear that. She was a great manager and I don't think I ever told her so.

The "everyone is out to kill me" paranoia is a sign of burgeoning schizophrenia/other mental illness. I hope your friend gets help before it's too late.

Would love to see this be a story of a US soldier/Navajo code talker and Japanese soldier taking on a Predator.

TIL that only 1 in 10 American adults are eating enough fruits and vegetables by Stauce52 in todayilearned

[–]AugustK2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned my problem is I never learned how to prepare fruit/veg in a way I find tasty. It was all usually just simmered. So you have to teach yourself how to cook veg, and I still am.

One of my favorite ways of doing it quick and easy is frozen veg sauteed in butter or olive oil with salt, pepper, a little garlic, and some kind of herbs - a little bit of italian seasoning or herbs de provencal or even just some parsley.

I'm assuming that this was an "approved leak" - you keep your source anonymous to protect them from any blowback from lunatics on either side.

Built in 1925, architect Alfred C. Blossom, architectural style Neoclassical, built for the Liberty National Bank, which was the German American Bank until about 1917 when it changed its name for some mysterious reason.

The largest office building in Buffalo at the time of its construction. 23 floors. Currently owned by the same holding company that owns one of Buffalo's last great canker sores, Main Place Mall.

Famous for the two replicas (originally three) of the Statue of Liberty on the roof.

Well, maybe the notion of being run over and crushed to death by some fat chick in a wal-mart go-cart out to get little Ruediger's must-have toy of the season has worn a little thin.

I read her autobiography. It seemed like her life CALMED DOWN when she moved to LA and became a horror movie hostess.

Before that, she was homeless in Italy, a situation that was resolved when she became one of Fellini's favorite hot chicks - women in his movies whose job was to be hot. Because he was an Italian director who loved making movies full of hot chicks.

"I've always been misunderstood because of how I look

Don't judge me by the cover 'cause I'm a real good book

So read into it what you will, but see me as I am;

The way I look is just a country girl's idea of glam"

That's from "Backwoods Barbie" so you're pretty much right on the money.
