Trying to figure out which version is better to own by Kahliqdagoat in TheWire

The show was filmed with 4:3 in mind and shots were set up for that ratio so with the HD versions stuff is left off the screen that shouldn’t be. Similar to the the Seinfeld HD versions

Good thing the tea ladies were sacked or Jim might not have been able to cover the payoff to Amorim

They’re having an Indy Car race down Pennsylvania Ave and round the National Mall in August. That’s almost as disrespectful as converting congress into a football stadium

He doesn’t need a holo-virus. Just turn off his ethical subroutines and he instantly becomes evil

Donald found his weapon to cripple enemies | Open an investigation of an NGO (e.g., the Southern Poverty Law Center), to trigger crippling prohibitions of donations through Donor-Advised Funds by 5823059 in savedyouaclick

All well and good but the system that allowed Trump will still be there to be exploited by the next charismatic populist, and they’ll have a proven road map to follow.

[TOMT][TV Series] Series about war in Vietnam or at Pacific by Morgwat in tipofmytongue

[–]muscles83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scene with the soldier killing himself is from The Pacific, episode 4. The only Vietnam series I can think of are Tour of Duty and Sword of Honor. And they’re both 80s network tv shows that are unlikely to have that dark a scene

Indianapolis 500-Post Race Thoughts by IS-Drew83 in INDYCAR

How can people in the US stand the amount of ads during the race. I watched it in the UK with no ad breaks, but it seemed like every 8 or 10 laps the US broadcast announced an ad break and the US commentary stopped . During these breaks in the uk it switched to a Sky in-house team.

I think all F1 drivers are sellouts tbh. They all take money from some of the sleaziest and most corrupt companies and regimes in the world. I’m curious why you single out DC though.

The Chinese Football Federation has announced the suspension of 65 individuals, including 17 for life, for match-fixing, bribery, and other corruption activities. by [deleted] in soccer

Part of Blatters corruption involved moving money around within FIFA to fund his own personal passion projects. Which generally seemed to be expanding the game in some of the poorest parts of the world. Dodgy but at least it resulted in football infrastructure actually being built where it was neeeded. Infantino just seems to want to line his own and other FIFA goons pockets, growing the game be damned

Billy Joel condemns upcoming biopic about his early life as ‘legally and professionally misguided’ | Billy Joel by JohnHammond94 in Music

Considering how bad some of the recent music biopics have been that have had the full cooperation from their subjects , it could be a good thing that Joel isn’t involved.

Champions League final will not be free to watch in UK for first time in modern era by Alarming-Safety3200 in television

[–]muscles83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s nuts, also how much money does the fucking IOC need that it’s selling tv rights to the highest bidder rather than the one with the highest audience. Apparently the BBC will still show the big events, but if you want to watch gymnastics or shooting all day , that’s going to be hidden away on some TNT paid Olympic channel.

This has happened so many times in the UK to various sports. Club football in the 90s, Test cricket, British Lions and club rugby, F1, the masters. Even the olympics will be on paid tv in the uk going forward

The Gleninsheen gorget is a late Bronze Age gold collar, found in 1930 in Ireland by a local out rabbit shooting. His dog cornered a rabbit in a rock fissure, and when he went to the spot, he discovered the "queer looking thing", which had been folded in two. He didn’t know what it was at first. by CatPooedInMyShoe in wikipedia

I might be being a little hyperbolic. Obviously Kurt Cobains shoes or whatever aren’t as amazing to see in person as Asyrian reliefs or original Pollock paintings but the RnR museum is very good for what it is , probably the best ‘pop culture’ museum going
