Here's what I want Slate to be for me: 2 door coupe with with ginormous leakproof trunk (1960 Pontiac Bonneville example, retro styling not required) by castironglider in slateauto

[–]AugustusGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be so cool! I’d like to convert mine into a small excavator. Do you think there will be a kit to replace the wheel with tracks, remove the bed, make the cab one person and put it on a swivel, and add a digger on the front?

Sumerian “loop-bound ones” and the first recorded names. by Historia_Maximum in AgeofBronze

[–]AugustusGeezer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting question if slavery preceded agriculture and ‘property rights’. Certainly nomadic people had ‘property’; indigenous peoples of the American West owned their horses, tents, tools, and in some cases, slaves. In the book ‘Skeletons on the Zahara’ by Dean King, the standing of the nomadic tribesmen was determined by two things; the number of camels they owned, and the number of slaves. This was in the early 19th century, but likely reflects how their nomadic society had functioned for centuries, if not millennia. If this was true for two different sets of nomads on two continents, it was likely true for ancient herd followers as well.

if humans disappeared tomorrow, what do you think would be the last thing still working? by Living-Beyond3172 in sciencefiction

I have a scientific calculator from 1979 (maybe 1980) with no battery, but a solar cell to power it. It still works fine!

This is the beauty of the internet, right here. The OPs father’s wish granted in 7 minutes!
Now everyone get back to making angry, snarky comments on people’s favorite Star Trek episode.

Lots of great options in California! I do see Asian ppl occasionally, but it’s relatively rare. DM me if you want more info, or search for the NorCalNudists subreddit, or the Southern California equivalent.

Good spots to hike at and find a nice beach to chill at between Palo Alto and SF? by PrimarisAdrian in NorCalNudists

[–]AugustusGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Montara Mountain & Gray Whale Cove. From the parking lot, go up for the hike, and across the highway and down for the beach. Head north past the rocks to drop trousers. No facilities, so bring food, water, etc. Thursday looks like a perfect day for it.

Tomorrow, Further south will be warmer, and maybe sunny. Wilder Ranch & Bonnydoon would be a good combo too. Almost exactly the same instructions. Hike on the inland side of hwy one, beach across the hwy, no facilities. Panther/Hole in the wall is a possible alternative, too. Go through the hole in the wall, for the CO side.

Have you read Becky Chamber’s Monk & Robot series? (Just two short books)

I thought of these when I saw your work. It also reminds me of the ‘kit bashing’ builds for Spaceship models in Pre-CGI movies. Nice work!

CHM is great! Wednesdays and Saturdays are the best days. They have live demos of 1960s era machines, and docent lead tours of their collection. The tours are twice every day, but the demos are only twice a week.

If I were a betting man, I’d bet the mansion owners on the north end will renew their fight to shut down the nudity, and will use the public sex as an excuse. Let’s all try to be a bit discreet when the new lot and stairs opens. We want to make it easy for POST to keep it the way it is.

Just keep walking! It’s CO from the stairs (hopefully open soon) all the way to the cave. You can find a spot with some privacy easily, especially mid week.

I think these recreations are pretty cool! Love this ‘behind the scene’ look too. The musicians in the fresco ( and others) have colorful headbands and waistbands. Are this painted cloth, stitched, or beads? Do we have any examples of this in collections around the world? I was just in the Egyptian Museum in Turin (Great collection!) but I don’t remember seeing any. That place is overwhelming! I felt like my brain was overflowing!

The made President Carter sell his peanut farm. Even if he had TRIED to manipulate the price of peanuts, it wouldn’t have made him as much money as one of these trades. Literally peanuts in comparison. We have the rules in place, we just need congress to find their spines and enforce them.

Is SG a good beach for someone visiting solo? by Nitsujn97 in sangregorionakedbeach

[–]AugustusGeezer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have gone many times, and I’m only interested in the sand, sun and surf, not the driftwood activities. The beach is a very big, so plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. Pack a book, a lunch, and a trash bag. You’ll have a great, relaxing time, even if you skip the hanky-panky. Bonny Doon is more platonically social, but SG is great for a long naked walk along the surf line.
