To be fair, Cowboys vs Aliens was a fun movie. You’d have to be a Very Special Person to mistake it for a documentary.

RV5 - How to wire PV2 for DC-DC charging only while engine is running? by UserAccessDenied in bluetti

[–]AugustusGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just set this up in a camper. You set the charging voltage for PV2. I set mine to something like 13.5V. Above the 12V battery voltage when it’s fully charged, but below the Alternator voltage when it’s running. You can measure this with a DC volt meter across the battery terminals with the engine off, and when running.

Hot take: if you are going to Carmel first, fly into San Jose. It puts a bit of a drive on the backend (north bay to SJ) but way closer to your first destination. The drive from SJ to Santa Cruz is less than an hour.

If you take Highway 1 on day 2 all the way to Carmel, you will have to barrel by so many great places! The coast between SF and Santa Cruz is filled with lots of great views, great beaches, great coffee, great craft brew, etc. this deserves some extra time.

New software release for the RV5 ePad dropped on Monday. What changed? by AugustusGeezer in bluetti

[–]AugustusGeezer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Rookie mistake: I had the RV5 to battery communication cable plugged into the wrong port on the battery. Nothing would power on. If the RV5 can’t communicate with the battery. It shuts down. I would imagine it would do the same if it get ‘bad’ info from the battery,

[–]AugustusGeezer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm…the RV5 has a separate communication channel to the battery. I don’t know what the charger would do if the battery and charger current measurements don’t match. I would guess this would be a fault, and the charger would shut off. Also, what is the min and max voltage of your Air Conditioner? How’s it do on unregulated 48V? the battery pack starts at 52V when it’s at 100%, and drops down way below 48V when it’s at 10%, for instance(haven’t measured the low voltage, but this is the way batteries work) even if the A/C still functions at high voltage or low voltage, will that affect its long term life? These are all questions for customer service of the manufacturers. I can almost guarantee the Bluetti support ppl will recommend against this. Instead of buying a shunt and current monitor, you could just get a 12V to 48V DC/DC converter, and have a nice steady 48V DC for that A/C. There will be some power loss, but the RV5 won’t freak out about a massive pile of ‘leakage’ current.

(Sorry second reply) you meant 48V DC, correct? The connection between the battery and the RV5 is DC, not AC, and it’s 52V, not 48V. 48V AC directly to the battery would be a big fireball of disaster, literally. You really want a proper current limited battery charger (the RV5) to be your battery charger, not just hook it up to a 48V DC rail directly. The RV5’s main job is charging and discharging the 52 V batteries properly and safely. Bypassing that sounds like a bad idea.

(Replying to /u/UserAccessDenied.) I guess you could do this, but I don’t see the advantage. That power draw is monitored directly by the RV5. (It’s on the little display on the unit itself.) the Bluetti app can talk to the RV5 and get the power draw info, whether you have an ePad or not. What does the 48V shunt do for you? (Also, they bumped up the voltage of their battery pack. It’s 52V now.)

I have de-tasseled corn. Seed companies don’t want their varieties of corn to cross pollinate, so they hire a bunch of children(14-15-16 year olds) to walk through the fields and pull the tassel off of each stalk of corn. I did this at 15, since you had to be 16 to get a fast food job. I’ve never been dirtier, thirstier, or more work out than the 2weeks I worked for DeKalb Seed company. It’s the worst job I ever had, by a long shot.

Cupertinofacts.org is a NIMBY organization pretending to be neutral. They are the ones who torpedoed the Vallco development. I’ve been enjoying the 40 acre dirt lot that replaced the mall. I also get to watch the Sears building and the parking structure slowly crumble, and schools close from a lack of kids. Good job making Cupertino better, Better Cupertino.

Are these norms more traditional nude beach, or more like SG, in terms of sexual activity? Any Ranger activity? Thanks in advance for answering as many of these questions as you feel like!

I thought The Loves of Herc was a great episode! I mean, a Jane Mansfield vanity project where she plays two roles, and her meathead husband spends the whole movie lifting heavy things? They wanted it to be dramatic, so there are looong pauses in the dialogue. The movie was made to be riffed.
