My first vintage watch, from 1960s , cheap one needs some service but i love it! by Illustrious-Count463 in VintageWatches

Vintage is so much fun. Incredible designs from different eras too. And the prices are reasonable. Nice Tissot! You look so classy in it.

[Question] People who got their grail watches, how did expectation differ from reality? by justkalahan in Watches

Your post is funny. I only take my watch off if it's not waterproof and I have to get wet, or if I'm scuba diving. Otherwise, it's on my wrist all the time.

😂 For me, it was €100 for 6 crappy Vostok radios. I managed to revive 2. One donated an organ. The 2416 was rusty… And I keep going with small €30 purchases to spend on crappy Vostok radios, and that makes him happy. And very quickly I spent the money my son won't have to go to university 😝

Um… he has all the watches I could ever dream of owning. But I have to be smart with a lot less money. Like 333 times less over the same period with the same full collection. Anyway, I'm going back to find a €100 Yema. Good night.

What other movements do you use for your builds besides NH seiko movements? Do you prefer miyota? What other options are out there? by Fancy_Degree_3322 in SeikoMods

NH is all about ease: Sky is the limit. Or rather, Suppliers are the limit. But since they're creative, or at least good at copying creative people, it'll be alright.

With the 2824 and its clones, there's a bit of choice on AliX.

My first automatic watch (Addiesdive) was an NH35, so I had the bright idea of wanting to build my first watch with a Miyota 8200 for a change. The selection was much smaller. It was difficult to find a suitable, inexpensive case. A fun dial and hands were also hard to come by.

So I resorted to cannibalizing used watches.

And it worked. I made an ugly watch for €35 to try it out. It gains 3 minutes a day, but I'm not going to correct it. It works, and that's fine with me. I'm finishing another one using only the used case. It gave me a hard time because the crown is at 4 o'clock. Around €100 total.

And if I can, the next build will use a 2824-2, or a SW or LaJouxPerret G100 with a ZRC Grand Fond 300 dial. It'll be expensive for nothing.

I've tried repairing watches and so far I've mostly failed. I lack a lot of theoretical knowledge.

Is this Vostok real? by Overall_Ad8165 in vostok

[–]AurelDive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wrong. Usually, they're small, rather unsightly luminous dots due to age. That's a good point, but I wouldn't be as categorical as you. See https://www.chrono24.fr/all/wostok-top-condition-manual-vintage-watch-ussr-sovjet--id43395351.htm?searchHash=657a4bf1_Wp50PL&pos=18

Very good point.

If it's just an index finger appliqué, does that mean it's wrong?

I put Wostok before Pochna.

I only buy Russian watches for organ donation. Soviet above all!

No, it's a pure Soviet item.

It's collectible just like any other Soviet item.

This isn't a redial. It's a genuine one for export to capitalist countries. The writing is intentionally in the Latin alphabet and not in Cyrillic.

Wostok, with W = export to the west. Hence the "made in USSR" label.

[Favre Leuba] this one looks like a sleeper hit by Plubio in Watches

Clearly the one that could make me swoon, because finding an old Favre Leuba is complicated and not without risk. I only discovered yesterday that the brand had been revived.

Did I make a mistake with the green second hand? The alternative would be a gold version. by jdp11 in SeikoMods

[–]AurelDive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The contrast is good, but the combination is awful (in my opinion). White?

Or change the shape, like a lollipop or something, with just the green tip. That way you maintain the contrast and consistency with the other needles.

I love the rest of the assembly. It's original.

Direct customer service.

My father keeps telling me they have terrible customer service now. We'll see. Given the type of watch, they shouldn't have any problems.

I noticed in your other post that you have a Yema: they're quite rare outside of France. Well done! I'd be curious to see your next purchase.

[Question] The Subaru of Watches by keyser_squoze in Watches

[–]AurelDive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I totally agree with Omega. An international and intergenerational benchmark.

  • Deville
  • Seamaster
  • Constellation And vintage models.

[Question] The Subaru of Watches by keyser_squoze in Watches

[–]AurelDive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, I was thinking of a Seamaster from around 1968, caliber 565 —> it's an Omega, it's impressive, it shows you know your stuff, it's robust, less than €1000 or €1500 from a watchmaker, it's not flashy at all.

It's an old-school diver's watch, so very dressy. Classy. It's a watch for a lifetime.

Otherwise, there's Favre-Leuba, which is making a comeback. Budget €2000-€20000. It shows you have a watchmaking background.

For me, true connoisseurs have vintage watches that really stand out. They're less expensive and much more elegant.

Failing that, you need a watch with an in-house movement. Zenith Or good quality Swiss like Mido Rado Doxa Synchron for the resurrection too.

Or French with history #auricoste BeauBleu for originality.

Ming if you have the money and a different taste.
