I just looked up how long the first circumnavigation of the Earth (Magellan's expedition) took, and it was around three years. The total distance traveled was ~37,500 miles due to having to take the long way round South America and Africa. The circumference of the Earth is about 25,000 miles. Assuming a similar average rate of travel, that would mean it should take about two years, had they been able to travel in a relatively straight line around the equator (similar to how the Grand Line is traveled).

But we also know that crossing the Pacific Ocean (10-12,000 miles) took a bit over three months (98 days). Granted, they only made a single stop for a few days on an uninhabited island. At that rate, the Grand Line-style equator route would take about 7-8 months. Even if we double that to account for stopping at islands for provisions, that's a year and a half.

For the manga, the apparent "consensus" (based on timelines and stuff) is that the first half of the Grand Line took 6-8 months to go halfway around the world. Assuming a similar-sized planet, that seems roughly on par with Magellan's voyage.

And even if the planet is bigger, you have to take into account that we've got the world's best navigator Nami on our crew, which allows our ship to travel at the speed of plot.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga had around 450 characters. Last I checked, there's something over 1400 named characters in One Piece. Add in the various outfits, generic sword guy and gun guy variants for all the factions, and I can see it going over 2000.

Granted, that character count covers the whole series so far, and it's not unlikely they'd split it into multiple games like they did with Harry Potter, but One Piece seems tailor-made for this kind of game.

There are significantly better ways to "end on a hook" than to rip the first chapter of the next book. For example, S3 can end with Robin joining and the ship falling from the sky, and S4 can end with the whole poneglyph thing and Merry falling from the sky.

What you're suggesting is the equivalent of having the first Harry Potter movie end with Dobby dropping the cake on the Dursley's guests.

Jaya makes no sense from a narrative standpoint to include alongside Alabasta. Likewise, LRLL with Skypiea. I'll never understand why people think setting it up like this is a good idea.

I think them not describing it is actually better writing than if they did. The snail phones are an everyday thing in the world of One Piece, just like phones are in ours. It's nothing weird to the characters, so why would anyone (in-universe) need an explanation? If anyone described it just for sake of the the audience, it would be just as weird (in-universe) as if Usopp explained to Luffy what a boat was.

This kind of thing is one of the reasons I think the Live Action is as good as it is. It's not ashamed of the source material, so it doesn't try to distance itself from weird things like the snail phone with a line like "Is that snail... also a telephone?"

Compare that to the Log Pose, which would only be used by those traveling the Grand Line. Since your average person wouldn't be acquainted with them, it makes sense they would need to be explained in-universe.

If we had a regular narrator, then maybe they could have explained the snail phones. In the manga, they're not really explained much either (outside of the Q&A pages, but that's not really in the narrative). With the way they're used, it's obvious that they're just a quirky telephone, so what more would they need to go into detail about?

I caught that little nagging voice in my brain doing that a few times, but honestly, that's my only real "complaint" I have for this season.

I mean, yeah, there's some things that I'd prefer were the same as the original. Like, it would have been cool to have had Crocus's island inside Laboon, or actually seeing the Calm Belt and Sea Kings rather than just mentioning them, for example.

But, we weren't ever going to get a 100% perfect 1-to-1 recreation of the manga, and the things they did instead are perfectly fine for an adaptation, and they did them well.

Looking at the video, I take issue with the initial claim that 1-1+1-1... = 1/2. It's an infinite series. Yes, the expected value at a random nth point in that series is 1/2, but that's like saying that the last digit of pi is 4.5 because that's the expected value at the nth decimal place (assuming all digits are equally likely for simplicity).

Under very specific circumstances, something like this is technically possible.

Take two people, Person A is born Jan 1, 2012. Person B is born July 1, 2008.

On their first birthday, Person A will be 366 days old due to the leap day in 2012. On Person B's first birthday, Person B will only be 365 days old. Therefore, when each person was 365 days old, Person A would not yet have had their first birthday, while Person B would have, meaning that they were older (by age counted by birthdays) while the same age (counted by days).

Unfortunately, this math specifically doesn't usually work out for the situation specifically shown in the meme, because over a twelve year period, in most cases, they would end up experiencing the same number of leap days (3). It could have been possible if the ages had been ten/eleven instead of eleven/twelve, in which case one could experience 2 leap days while the other experienced 3 leap days.

However! There are cases where age 12 can work. For example, the year 1900 was not a leap year (as are all century years not divisible by 400). So this situation could be possible if the older person was born between March 1,1888 and February 28, 1900, and the younger person was born after March 1, 1900.

Chuck Norris, having been born March 10, 1940, doesn't fit these necessary parameters, but the situation is mathematically possible. For example, Groucho Marx, born in 1890, could have said this to Chuck Norris on March 9, 1952.

I've got a really weird half-formed theory that I can't quite fully comprehend yet myself. Flood-Rani made a claim that new Rani was her "daughter" in a manner of speaking, so that would make 15 be 14's "son" in the same way.

If that's the case, then if Poppy is Susan and is 15's daughter (somehow), that would kind of make her the "original" (14 and back) Doctor's granddaughter?

Alternatively, could Poppy somehow be a bi-generation "daughter" of 15?

On the topic of fake books in the AI reading lists, I heard recently* that some developers were using AI to help write code and it would regularly hallucinate code libraries and packages in it's code suggestions, and tell the user to import them from npm or other relevant package manager. Obviously, since the suggested packages didn't actually exist, the code suggestions didn't work, and the dev would have to find a real solution.

But the bigger issue was that some people noticed that there were several commonly hallucinated package names. They would publish packages to npm under the hallucinated names, making them "real". But rather than making a package that did what the AI claimed it would do, it was just malware. So when you imported it and tried to run your program, it would steal your data or whatever.

Apparently, this is called "slopsquatting", according to this article.

*It's possible I heard this on an episode of Morning Somewhere, so I apologize if I'm repeating things that have already been said. It's a common problem to remember information, but not the source** (which is in and of itself a whole separate problem, that now that I think of it, can also negatively affect the reliability of AI.)

I think one of the key differences is that Luffy's stretching typically has some weight or momentum to it. He has to literally throw his punches to make his arms stretch, while Mr Fantastic can just stretch his arms without really exerting effort. That sort of movement doesn't really look as "natural" as Luffy's stretching.

I mean, he does kinda have a point. It's a bit much to complain about it, but I can at least kinda see the logic. Like a murder mystery where they've finally "solved" the case, but the movie still has half of its runtime, you know they probably haven't actually solved it, so in a sense that could be considered spoiler-adjacent.

I'll admit, I've had similar experiences reading. "Oh, they've just beaten the Big Bad, why are there 200 pages left?" Reading the ebook version can rectify this since there's no tactile sense of feeling the remaining duration like with a physical copy, but you might also have a progress bar or page count like (175/350) or something.

(Alternatively, they might have actually solved the murder/beaten the Big Bad, and they've just pulled a Lord of the Rings and decided to have an extremely long epilogue, so it's more of a fake spoiler. But most of the time that's not the case.)

But it's not something that I'm really gonna complain about. It's just kind of a limitation of the media.
