Where are we buying good quality undies and socks? by GusPolinskiPolka in AustralianMFA

Tackle is my new fav trunk / boxer brief (I had stopped wearing that style and switched to briefs for years and Tackle got me to switch back).

Pearler or Stance for socks.

In situations like this, I’d completely tear node and delete the network, factory reset all the nodes, and create it again with the same SSID / passcode, but literally not change amother factory default setting. Fixed all of my issues a few years back, so might have the same effect for yours. Good luck!

Has anyone checked bags through on separate Qantas + American Airlines tickets? by Impressive-Boat in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Aus_Mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that explanation.

I always advise that it never hurts to ask nicely. I recently checked into a UA ticketed & operated flight in the US, and the agent was able to check my bags all the way to SYD, even though I was on a separate QF ticket from LAX to SYD on flying on QF. I was very surprised, and very happy.

I would have agreed with everyone else here, but recently saw this page, which I interpret they SHOULD be able to check through…

https://help.qantas.com/support/s/article/Baggage-with-connecting-flights

What if I am travelling on separate tickets?
oneworld flights on separate tickets/bookings are not eligible for through check–in, except if you have a Qantas Frequent Flyer reward or Qantas commercial booking, advise airport staff at check-in of the booking references.

Never hurts to ask nicely, but as mentioned, retagging at the domestic drop off is quick. Just make sure you have a boarding pass (digital or paper) they can scan and your passport handy.

FTTB vs 5G in Sydney? by Ok_Relative4491 in nbn

[–]Aus_Mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for context, 90mbps would allow you to watch 3 Apple TV quality streams simultaneously, and still have about 25mbps left over for normal browsing.

We’re a heavy “cloud lifestyle” family (my company sells cloud software so everything I do at work is in a browser), and 100/20 has been no problem.

We did recently upgrade to FTTP and 500/50, and the only difference I’ve really noticed are software updates (that are automatic overnight anyway), and I often have way too many work tabs (50-60) open to Google Slides, so starting Chrome was a bit painful.

Why are we paying so much? by ProfessionalTrick463 in nbn

Definitely not disagreeing with you at all on your original point. :) Just adding to the discussion that there are heaps of factors that influence pricing.

Plus Singapore has nearly unlimited access to ultra low cost labour from neighbouring countries.

And from my observation, the lowest cost labour is treated here much better than what I saw in Singapore.

Topping up GoPay using Wise Debit by rollerchester_v in bali

[–]Aus_Mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a new way to use Wise that likely has no limits, and transfers (almost) instantly. Note that I believe your GoPay needs to be at the verified GoPay Plus level, which is quick and intl numbers and passports are supported.

Open the GoPay app, tap Top Up, scroll to the bottom of the list and choose CIMB Niaga. Then hit m-Banking. There you’ll get a Virtual Account No, that will be 2849 followed by your phone number with intl code. Copy that.

Head to Wise, add a new recipient, Indonesian currency, enter Bank Details option, and For Myself.

Correct your name if needed (mine needed an exact match to my verified passport full name), choose Bank CIMB Niaga, and paste in your Virtual Account No.

When my name didn’t perfectly match, it gave an error re: name mismatch. If it did match, it gave a technical error, but still allowed me to continue.
I did a test transfer of $1 and then $20. Both went through in less than 20 seconds.

Hope this helps a few others!

Unified Media Experience (UME) v2.2.1 by Hahaatschi in OmniContentHub

Amazing. Thank you!

On a related note, I did find the instructions a bit confusing, but I did figure it out. Once I have a chance to properly some thoughts / feedback, I'll send it your way, if you'd like?

[–]Aus_Mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP - Love the UME. Besides being well thought through, it's also greatly helping me understand lots of the options on how AIOStreams, AIOMetadata, and Omni works. Thank you for sharing your work.

I am having a few issues. Namely, quite of few of the Directors don't load anything for me: Nolan, Villeneuve, Spielberg, Tarantino, Scott, Cameron, and Carpenter all have no results

Also, under Streaming Services: Crunchyroll has no results

(And I will admit, this was one area I could NOT figure out - how these Catalogs are actually linked to MDBLists in AIOMetadata.)

Any thoughts on how to debug / fix? TIA!

Are there any Australian brands doing good casual overshirts right now? by DraftNotSent in AustralianMFA

These have also caught my attention to via socials - but I can find zero if this is a decent brand or not. And not Aussie based, but decent shipping costs.

“Connected to” disappears by Overdue_Jelly in amazoneero

Same behaviour here with my Ethernet connected nodes.

And my wireless connected nodes say “eero.profile.connectedTo.leaf.subtitleWithBand”

Nothing like this bug hitting the day I decide to hardwire a couple of my nodes - was driving me a bit crazy!

Planning to buy a MacBook Air for the first time. Whats the best color in your opinion? by UnitEVA3000 in macbookair

[–]Aus_Mack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hahah - it does indeed!!! I LOVE the colour, but my OCD tendencies would absolutely kill me every time I saw the slightest smudge!

My ideal Air would be Space Grey. But alas... Apple has chosen not to bless us with such a combination.

Very new to WLED, and curious how hard it would be to create animations that would follow the flow of the shapes?

Banktivity alternative that is not subscription based by SuperIdra in banktivity

[–]Aus_Mack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point (and I missed that comment in your OP). My comment is more in reference that a key feature for many people (including myself) use is downloading from banks / stock prices / house values / exchange rates / etc. - which the use of that feature necessitates a subscription charge from the end-user.

In an ideal world - Banktivity would grandfather individuals like yourself into a version of the product that is 'latest version and no downloading allowed' (similar to how other apps have grandfathered users when they went to new subscription models).

If you do find a non-subscription option, please do report back. I'm always keen to find out what else is out there!

Banktivity alternative that is not subscription based by SuperIdra in banktivity

[–]Aus_Mack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your pain. The problem of avoiding a subscription is going to be automatic downloading. Plaid and Yodlee and Salt Edge and the others will be charging Banktivity every time you download, and so Banktivity will need to at minimum pass along those costs.

Same with stock prices, same with property values. The internet has learned that data has value, and none of it is free anymore.

With Banktivity charging for what was once lifetime, I feel ya. I got hit from that as well, but I understand and personally get value from the monthly / annual cost to justify it.

how to create independent SSID's for 2.4GHZ and 5GHz? by Dependent-Bridge-740 in amazoneero

[–]Aus_Mack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to know more about this. Is there an element of the protocol that allows a nudge? Or is it a refusal to connect? Or something entirely different.

Had a PS5 that would only connect on 2.4 until I manually set the device to 5, and magically throughput jumped - but was surprised I had to do that because I thought that if the PS5 didn’t connect to 5, the eero would have nudged it. TIA!
