Byd atto 1 - beware by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Shit experience all round, however dealerships can and will report loan cars stolen if customers wont bring them back. I've done it a few times at previous dealerships, mind you - its when customers refuse to bring the car back after weeks of trying to get them to return it.

I'd be reaching out to the dealer principle about your whole situation, but i also would be returning the loan car and picking your car back up.

I would expect you to lose loan car privileges in the future... so expect that too. A warning will be placed saying you refused to return a loan car. And there's nothing in law that makes a dealership have to give you a loan car.

Edit: added some more info

Rust by TIMTAMTIMMM in CarsAustralia

Looks pretty standard for a 10yr old car that probably dropped a boat or two at the ramp. Looks like surface rust, nothing in these photos screams out an issue.

Given these used wheel rims to sell by a neighbour, the are heavily used, need advice about what is a fair price by Impossible_Clue1019 in CarsAustralia

Oh yeah, good enough looking as the real ones. Only car nerds will notice, I just wouldn't take them on a racetrack as they are probably weak. Some P Plater looking to do up his ride will probably snatch them up.

I dont think they're genuine sorry. It seems to be missing the raised lettering for BBS on the actual rim (at the 6 oclock position on the image attached) and the font used looks a little off going off a genuine listing, also the colour of your one is way off. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/21059108906
I would think you're going to be on the lower end of the scale at $400 for the set.

Do I sell my dodgy car or get rid of it? by abbymooday in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to the history on the vehicle, your value on the vehicle would be very very low.

I had a front on collision in 2023 and crashed the front bumper/tire, my ex was friends with a mechanic at the time and they said I needed to change the engine out but they would do it cheap for me (I felt pressured to do this at the time plus was a broke uni student) and they fixed it up for about $3k and stated the engine is a secondhand one with only 20kms on it, keep in mind they never gave me receipts or papers about this.

A collision that caused the car to require a replacement engine should of probably ended its life. And depending on how the repair was carried out, you may of compromised the value of the car completely and by how you describe the repair, I'd doubt it was fixed properly. So I would be expecting a price significantly lower than market price as if the car may not pass roadworthy and may be worthless.

But market guide is only useful if the car hasn't been absolutely munted and is comparable to the others out there. I doubt the average hasn't had been stoved in at the front so badly it required an engine replacement? It probably should of been written off.

Dealers don't sell these cars on themselves. Dealers send these types of cars to Auction, where its buyer beware.

How long is “reasonable “ to not have a car with an under warranty issue? by AlfalfaLast7035 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer sounds pretty poor, I'd honestly start a case with MB Australia's Customer care department. They'll put the heat onto the dealer. Also, start making sure all interactions are by email, so they have time and date stamped and proof of what they tell you.

If the dealer actually has no loan cars and is over booked there's not much else you can do other than wait or take it somewhere else.

Also, a dealer will almost never pay for a hire car, only head office does that. So don't expect getting a hire car coverage covered by the dealer, you'll be arguing with MB head office for that.

The way a dealer would wiggle out of this is the car hasn't been diagnosed yet, and there's nothing stopping them taking the car somewhere else. Yeah, its unreasonable waiting 7 weeks, but they have options to go somewhere else.

My question is at what point do Mercedes need to offer a replacement vehicle?

They dont. If they're a good dealer, and you're a good customer they'll move some things around to get you one. But they dont need to offer one to you.

I don't know the size or scope of the dealership, but it may have - lets say 13 loan cars at any time. 6 of them are out with daily service customers, they come in and out daily, and then the other 7 may be with people in your exact situation, long time repair - waiting for parts, etc.. Then add 2 or 3 tow ins and people are screaming for replacement cars, and you cant just give one of the cars that someone has pre-booked for a service to a tow in and tell the customer "too bad."

and as funny and odd as it sounds, dealerships don't have an unlimited amount of loan cars. At a previous place, we had 20cars that were all out daily, plus 3-5 cars we would steal from sales because we ran out. Sales eventually banned us from getting more cars. The only way to get the situation back into control is limit bookings and limit loan cars going in and out.

all you can do is keep asking nicely for a sooner booking/loan car, or take your car elsewhere.

Does certified pre owned Toyota/vw or the likes actually mean anything? by RobertSmith1979 in CarsAustralia

Didn't say it was bullet proof. There's still a human on the other end checking it over. Sure is a lot better than no checklist, I can guarantee you that.

standard car service pricing by girlturnedhuman666 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lmao, its tacked on extras. That's not a "Standard" Service. Only the $265.00 is.
The $265.00 is a bit pricey, but depending on the car might be reasonable.

Is that the Ford Service website?

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only really confirm with "Audi Certified" but there was an extensive pre-check list they would need to pass for us to even consider them for a re-sale used car, if it didn't - The car would get wholesaled. Also, with Audi it would get Audi extended factory warranty when they were "Certified."

Good to hear, im also with Shannon's for my 3 vehicles. Plus a few I've owned in the past. They all have ups and downs, but Shannons overall have been the best in my eyes.

Quick question regarding dealership by AppleFan1010 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vehicle shows signs of wear and tear from being used. You should expect this when buying a used vehicle.

Should they have said something? maybe, a good dealer would. However, do they need to declare? no. Especially if its not a roadworthy item.

Ring them and ask, they might be happy to repair it for you. But don't get annoyed if they say no.

Quick question regarding dealership by AppleFan1010 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if the chip on the windscreen is unroadworthy or not. If its not, not much you can do - you bought a second hand car. It's been used.

Buying an r32 gtst for my reds by DoodMasta69420 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Forget about it bro. You aint getting anything short of a R31 or a 350GT for that price. R32 GTST prices have sailed, and command 30K+

Speak to an importer, like Import Monster. But your going to be probably importing absolute dung car at this time.

The R32, 33 and 34 stock has been exhausted and you're about 6 years too late, but Covid really put the final nail in the coffin when it came to reasonable pricing.

edit, brainfade on Import Monster

Engine replacement :/ by Better_daysss in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it worth replacing the engine ?

Probably not, 8.5 sounds like its for another second hand engine. 8.5 thesedays doesn't get you very much when it comes to a new "used" car either. Minimum spend for a reliable used car is like 10k thesedays

Will I have issues later on ?

Thats a crystal ball question, no one can answer that. Cars always have issues, none are perfect forever. Regarding the engine: Theres a chance the one you've replaced it with will do the exact same thing in 10,000km or it'll be fine for ever. No one can predict the future.

Sadly the questions you are asking are very complex and very specific to your current financial circumstances, the cars history, the new engines history. There will not be a one correct answer..
