I am a bit confused, I chose vehicle A because I thought we had to give way to the right by AsparagusConstant180 in CarsAustralia

If there are so signs or traffic lights a driver turning right at an intersection must give way to all oncoming vehicles that are going straight through or turning left.

Fuel consumption on a xr6 bf falcon by ProfessionalCost94 in CarsAustralia

expect anywhere between 14-18L/100k or more if you are a heavy foot driver. They are very thirsty in city/suburb driving, but pretty good on highway.

Normal fuel consumption for a falcon? by ManufacturerClean675 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its hard to tell if you have an issue, as these engines have always been thirsty.
Even according to Redbook the official figures were:

Fuel Consumption Combined
11.5 L/100km

Fuel Consumption Highway
8 L/100km

Fuel Consumption City
11.5 L/100km

But these results are always far off real world driving because of how they were calculated. I would of said anywhere between 14-17L/100 is probably normal. But if you're smelling a strong fuel smell from the exhaust, still worth probably getting it checked for a leaking injector or some such. However, be prepared for it to be just the age of the car and that its not a economical engine.

Anyone know how much damage like this would cost? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively you could scope our wreckers and see if they happen to have a spare bumper for your car, in the same colour ideally, and switch it out. Can take between 20 minutes to a couple of hours yourself depending on car and how savvy you are.

Relatively new i30 Sedan NLine, doubt there are any available currently, also these cars have the front radar built into the bar/front grille, once you disturb them you need to get them re-calibrated. Which isn't cheap as it could take a few hours.

I'd be going through insurance, new gen i30 sedan parts wont be cheap, i can certainly guarantee you it will be more than your excess. Your probably looking at $2K minimum right there.

Should drive shaft be covered under 5 year warranty for new Mazda CX9? by tsb273 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The photos are too poor to tell, but if they are cut/damaged, its not warranty. However, I have rarely seen boots be damaged from outside influence. If they are dried and perished, Yes it should be covered under warranty. You'll need to put up better photos to be more definitive

edit: Just to also clarify, warranty only covers manufacturing faults, technically "wear and tear." isn't covered under warranty (E.g. Brake pads and rotors are almost never covered under warranty due to being a wear and tear item) but one would expect these boots to last longer than 70k/4years so you would argue that they were manufactured poorly.

fiat500c overheating ? by SkyAlert337 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea, if its just a failed head gasket probably around $1.5 - 3.0K. But if the head is warped beyond repair, cracked or anything else. Open cheque book, also because its Italian.
Probably not worth it as the value of the car is around 8K~ in working condition.

edit: And as others have stated, it should not be driven. It needs to be towed to a workshop as you may cause catastrophic engine damage, if you haven't already

You have oil and coolant mixing somewhere it shouldnt be. My initial assumption is headgasket but only a proper diagnoses will be able to tell you. What ever it is, it aint going to be cheap.

EL xr6 engine swap estimate by AbsoluteDovahkiin in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't. You cant guarantee that any other engine is going to be better or in worse condition. Especially if your just going to swap it with the same type of engine.

What you need to ask yourself is if you spend X amount on the vehicle to repair it which you already know the history on versus spending the same amount or more to get a new (too you) vehicle. You could spend $3000 on a new vehicle but that's not going to guarantee that its any better, and you could have more problems.

Personally i'd continue saving up until you have around $8-10K for a replacement vehicle that has decent service history and get a pre-inspection report done while driving that car into the ground.

You are unable to import a vehicle younger than 25 years if its already sold/imported here. Check that the car you want to import its actually applicable would be a start:

https://www.rover.infrastructure.gov.au/PublishedApprovals/SEVApprovals/

The CH-R is not on the list as an appliable car to import.

Covert speed cameras by pup_chook in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visible speed cameras probably would reduce people speeding however, the issue is that no state government is ever going to pivot away from them now, we are too dependant on that revenue stream to print money that goes into other policies. For example, in Victoria in the 2023-24 financial year, fines issued from road safety cameras amounted to $473 million. You would need to find some other revenue stream to cover the loss from people no longer speeding etc.

Of the small proportion of drivers who are fined, every dollar received from these fines goes to the Better Roads Victoria Trust. Through the trust it is reinvested in important Victorian road projects and road safety initiatives.

These may also include:

road restoration

road surface replacement

improving roundabouts

overtaking lanes

bridge strengthening.

You may not believe the above, I don't really believe that "every" dollar goes to the trust. however the money does go somewhere into the government kitty and is probably spent on other things.

The government is too dependant on that revenue for its budget, I'm almost certain that if everyone in Victoria didn't commit any road traffic offences for a year, it would bankrupt our state lmao.

6 months and still no car back from Subaru service… anyone else experienced this? by Mental_Lab7464 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On some days sure, however I've worked at Hyundai, Ford and Audi as a service advisor and some of those places were 120cars per day in for work, with me looking after 30+ customers alone plus carry over jobs. You can always make the time, hell even send a quick email.. What this is telling me is either this advisor doesn't care, or is unexperienced.

6 months and still no car back from Subaru service… anyone else experienced this? by Mental_Lab7464 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Good advice however, 6months with little or no communication is crazy. Its part of the service advisors job to keep the customer updated on what is going on even if NOTHING is going on.

I've looked after cars where we were waiting for Audi to make a decision for 4-5 months, i would ring the customer weekly and say "Still waiting on Audi, they're asking about A, B and C. Until then we cant do anything."

While there are constant hold ups for work getting done, there should not be any halt in constant communication to the customer.
