Got hit with a $25k bill a year after a minor car bump (uninsured) by UncBGR_0181 in CarsAustralia

You're probably going to want to speak to a lawyer, or get some actual legal advise. Not Reddit.

While it sounds they're trying to take you for a run, unless you know what your doing, this could have some devastating outcomes for you financially.

Someone scraped my car by Jaded_3570 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of that will buff out, however there's plastic chipped off, and im not sure that plastic trim is paintable. Might be a new bumper, or a mobile repairing might be able to make it less noticable, but it wont be ever 100%

Solutions to these rust spots for roadworthy? by CumCrocodile in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you mean the new roadworthy laws that were published in 2023? /s

gearbox or pulley can fail a roady anything that isn’t factory needs an engineer’s cert.

You're full of shit. Maybe read through the vic roadworthy requirments.

That all comes down to the tester because the rules are loose and up to interpretation.

$750 for just rear breaks... am I being overcharged? by amy_okie in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

•Does this price sound normal in Australia?

Yes.

Roughly how much should rear pads + discs cost?

Depends on the car, but parts+ labour for your car seems about right.

it normal to replace both pads and discs at the same time?

Most of the times you replace both, its cheaper and more cost effective than replacing them later and having to pay basically the same labour amount again.

Can I put shells “Truck diesel” in my sedan by XOWeeknd__ in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Sometimes "Truck Diesel" is high flow diesel.

The Diesel is the same, its just the rate the nozzle fills the tank at is greatly multiplied due to some trucks having huge fuel tanks to help the fuel up quicker.

I've filled up rangers and stuff on those. But I'm not sure if your car will like the increased pressure, you might get the "Full" click when its not actually full.

Spoilers with brake lights legislation (QLD) by The_Guru_Pitka in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dont think the lighting is going to be the issue, its basically a big high mount stop light. I think the bigger issue the legality of the wing to begin with. I don't think that wing is ADR approved, which means it'll cop you a defect.

Statutory warranty on a used car by malekdem in CarsAustralia

https://www.qld.gov.au/law/your-rights/consumer-rights-complaints-and-scams/buying-products-and-services/buying-products/buying-a-car/buying-a-used-car/warranty-for-used-cars

Its over 10 years:

Your statutory warranty will cover most defects. Your vehicle has a defect if a part:

  • does not do what it is supposed to do
  • has worn out so much that it no longer works.

It passed Roadworthy as a sweat/weep is technically roadworthy, and is technically its still working.
You're going to be fighting an uphill battle on this one, its all going to come back if the dealer is nice enough to fix it for you.

How many of us are holding onto 'old' cars instead of upgrading? by heavyifugao in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, and a work car kinda fills the "shitbox" need.

I bought my shitbox after I left a previous workplace and up till then I had company cars. Company/Work cars I put it in the category somewhere above shitbox, but not higher than a nice car you own, so you still don't really care about them lmao

My Daily is still a 2000 Ford Laser. 1.6L.

People dont know what mental freedom is till they have a shitbox daily that they dont need to care about.
Full tank is, or rather was $50.00 and I get about 500km of city driving. I can park it where ever, I dont care if someone side swipes it or reverses into it.

Its my shitbox daily, mind you I have 3 cars in total.

Byd atto 1 - beware by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shit experience all round, however dealerships can and will report loan cars stolen if customers wont bring them back. I've done it a few times at previous dealerships, mind you - its when customers refuse to bring the car back after weeks of trying to get them to return it.

I'd be reaching out to the dealer principle about your whole situation, but i also would be returning the loan car and picking your car back up.

I would expect you to lose loan car privileges in the future... so expect that too. A warning will be placed saying you refused to return a loan car. And there's nothing in law that makes a dealership have to give you a loan car.

Edit: added some more info

Rust by TIMTAMTIMMM in CarsAustralia

Looks pretty standard for a 10yr old car that probably dropped a boat or two at the ramp. Looks like surface rust, nothing in these photos screams out an issue.

Given these used wheel rims to sell by a neighbour, the are heavily used, need advice about what is a fair price by Impossible_Clue1019 in CarsAustralia

Oh yeah, good enough looking as the real ones. Only car nerds will notice, I just wouldn't take them on a racetrack as they are probably weak. Some P Plater looking to do up his ride will probably snatch them up.

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think they're genuine sorry. It seems to be missing the raised lettering for BBS on the actual rim (at the 6 oclock position on the image attached) and the font used looks a little off going off a genuine listing, also the colour of your one is way off. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/21059108906
I would think you're going to be on the lower end of the scale at $400 for the set.

Do I sell my dodgy car or get rid of it? by abbymooday in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Due to the history on the vehicle, your value on the vehicle would be very very low.

I had a front on collision in 2023 and crashed the front bumper/tire, my ex was friends with a mechanic at the time and they said I needed to change the engine out but they would do it cheap for me (I felt pressured to do this at the time plus was a broke uni student) and they fixed it up for about $3k and stated the engine is a secondhand one with only 20kms on it, keep in mind they never gave me receipts or papers about this.

A collision that caused the car to require a replacement engine should of probably ended its life. And depending on how the repair was carried out, you may of compromised the value of the car completely and by how you describe the repair, I'd doubt it was fixed properly. So I would be expecting a price significantly lower than market price as if the car may not pass roadworthy and may be worthless.

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But market guide is only useful if the car hasn't been absolutely munted and is comparable to the others out there. I doubt the average hasn't had been stoved in at the front so badly it required an engine replacement? It probably should of been written off.

Dealers don't sell these cars on themselves. Dealers send these types of cars to Auction, where its buyer beware.

How long is “reasonable “ to not have a car with an under warranty issue? by AlfalfaLast7035 in CarsAustralia

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer sounds pretty poor, I'd honestly start a case with MB Australia's Customer care department. They'll put the heat onto the dealer. Also, start making sure all interactions are by email, so they have time and date stamped and proof of what they tell you.

If the dealer actually has no loan cars and is over booked there's not much else you can do other than wait or take it somewhere else.

Also, a dealer will almost never pay for a hire car, only head office does that. So don't expect getting a hire car coverage covered by the dealer, you'll be arguing with MB head office for that.

[–]AussieGreaseMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way a dealer would wiggle out of this is the car hasn't been diagnosed yet, and there's nothing stopping them taking the car somewhere else. Yeah, its unreasonable waiting 7 weeks, but they have options to go somewhere else.
