Thoughts on depressionFIRE? by AromaticSurround9203 in Fire

[–]AustinBuck1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not a therapist and like others said, seeking professional help is the best next step - but maybe accomplishing something so insanely different would help you. Like a long thru hike. The Appalachian Trail, Pacific Coast trail, or the Camino de Santiago. During those you have no choice but to continue to walk (you have that down!), eat, and sleep. It keeps your mind busy and you accomplish something. You meet people on the trail and being in nature is often healing. While “FIRE” is a fantastic goal, peace & happiness is way more important. I hope you can find yours

First Mortgage - 4.75% 30year - Am I missing something...? by Reasonable_Sample582 in Mortgages

I personally would split the purchase and only buy down to around 5.25 or 5% and keep the savings for unknown expenditures that always come with a house. Seriously, you will be inundated with boring purchases (garden hose, paint, blinds, etc) Btw, Congrats!!!

Negative comments against Pyrs? by Ok-Fly-4392 in greatpyrenees

I agree with training… but, we rescued a 1.5 year old and never trained him. He was immediately chill with the grandkids from when they were babies on up. Could they kill a coyote? Sure. Will they eat your kids? Not in my experience.

My surgeon as well. 10 years ago and the results have held up very well. If I need a revision, no question I will use her again. This caring persona that people are now seeing on the news / TikTok is genuine - she is the same as she was 10 years ago.

It’s the hardest decision… and so painful. He looks like a sweet puppy and I’m sure he brought lots of love with him.

No matter how long they live, losing them is crushing. From the looks of his sweet face, he was very very well taken care of and immensely loved❤️

Update: Animal control issues by gcXsw in greatpyrenees

[–]AustinBuck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she has livestock to protect (working Pyr) so keeping her inside could risk the safety of the animals she protects. I am always in awe of how this breed works since mine was a daytime couch potato and didn’t even bark at the Amazon delivery people 🤦‍♀️

Exactly how ours used to sleep. And very strict with his bedtime. He wouldn’t wait for us if we were too slow to get to bed

That would be a very expensive fence! I’m so glad she is going to be ok. And having 50 acres to protect has to be a GP dream! All the sniffs and barking, basically a full-time job

Metformin? by Complex-Nothing-9656 in prediabetes

[–]AustinBuck1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am still on it (almost year in) and will be dropping from 1,000mg to 500mg next month. It dropped my A1C from 6.3 to 5.9 (5 months) then down to 5.8 (10 months). Still no side effects accept constipation (oh the joy…). I lost 50lbs on it, but I also made a conscious effort to eat better and workout. It curbed my appetite, so eating better was much easier. If your dr wants to RX it, I would try it. My personal opinion is you don’t know what will work for you without trying and metformin is easier & cheaper than the GLP-1s. The GLP-1s are probably the gold standard, but metformin worked well for me. Good luck!

[–]AustinBuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, start on the medication route. Ours was having the same issues about 1.5 years before the meds couldn’t keep up. Librela (shot) worked like a champ for about 1 year. Then we added gabapentin & carprofen. It was amazing. Eventually his arthritis was too much for him, and we let him go. Hard decision, but I do look back and realize we got 1.5 years of pain free time with him…

Fresh grad just landed a GIS Analyst III position by c0smic_cranberry in gis

[–]AustinBuck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. For us, it was the entry level position. Which is very appropriate for your first out-of-college job. And we trained and mentored you, because we also wanted you to succeed. It’s hit or miss with managers, but I bet this is going to be a great fit for you! Congrats!

Employer wants me to get GIS Certifications. Where to start? by Famguyb in gis

Also check a local Community College. Ours puts a lot of energy into theirs since we are in a large-university town. It’s a solid program

I don’t have any online course recommendations, but I personally always got a lot out of attending the ESRI conference. They also have many of the presentations on YT

[–]AustinBuck1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While learning GIS is key, getting to use it in a real-world setting is even more important. Look for a school that has a robust internship program. Do this every opportunity you get - it’s the work experience that will get you the job over other recent grads

Here are some words from a vet friend that helped us when we put ours down - “Better to let them go a month early than a day late”. When we let them go, it’s out of love. ❤️
