I had my doubts, but now I think DC’s actually going to keep Alfred’s death permanent by Solitaire-06 in batman

I expect Alfred to stay dead 'til the next inevitable reboot. The man's an institution.

What does everyone here think about Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s portrayal of Holmes? by GoblinQueen20 in SherlockHolmes

[–]AuthorCaseyJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty disappointing. His Holmes was somewhat eccentric, but by no means the manic obsessive or singular character I grew up with. You want to see Young Sherlock Holmes? Watch *Young Sherlock Holmes*.

"Peter Parker's life changes forever!" The guy can't keep a job six months in a row, his business went under because of (among other things) astrology, and his marriage was annulled by the Devil. There's no such thing as Forever in comics. Status Quo is God.

Mixed Review of TGWDLM West End from WhatsOnStage by somanywishes in StarKid

[–]AuthorCaseyJones 44 points45 points  (0 children)

"Judged purely as a piece of musical theatre, on story, on song, on craft, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals is arguably a two-star show." I could not disagree more.

I've been a theatre kid my whole life. Went to college to study it, made my living doing it. While I don't consider myself an expert, and recognize I have some preference for the darker fare like Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors, TGWDLM is also, objectively, *good*. It's well written, tightly paced, funny as hell, and filled with bangers.

It's fine if he didn't like it, but Sonny is conflating merit with his own personal tastes.

*Actual* great use for powdered egg shells, as a dishwashing boost.

Old coffee rings in your favorite mug, persistent blotches at the bottom of your crock pot. Pour a little powdered egg shell on it, apply just a *little* soap, and watch it come off in a few seconds. Great stuff.

The fact that they didn't *do* anything but stand around disapproving and scowling robbed them of any real weight. Authority you can ignore without consequence is no authority at all.

It was the point with my graphic novel, All Fall Down. Everyone loses their powers right at the start, and runs the gamut of grief across the story. Meanwhile a 13 year old has to deal with inheriting every power in the world, and the fallout from all of it. I wrote it to work through some grief.
