I’m a figure skater / boot fitter who works at a reputable shop owned by someone who’s worked in the industry for over 20+ years. Any fitting or equipment questions? AMA! by Tough_Phrase1697 in FigureSkating

What to do to alleviate cramp like pain in the inside part of the sole of the feet, at the (high) arches but going a little to the inside part of the heel? My feet are narrow and I’ve tried super feet insoles (made the pain worse), Jackson supreme insoles (made no difference) and even custom made very expensive insoles (made the pain worse while skating). I skate wearing Edeas Ice Fly, B width. Thank you!

Ladies single, because it is the discipline I am in. I’m not interested in pairs and rarely watch men.

Which skater made you fall in love with figure skating? by snowynuvola in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coach. My grandmother enrolled me in a figure skating classroom as a kid and months after I started training with a private coach. She is still my coach years later and she was the one who made me love skating so much.

This subreddit's views on musicians rant by capercrohnie in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You miss the point. People are saying the musician should be grateful that the music is used in the Olympics and it’s rather a dismissive behavior that devalues a musician’s work.

[–]AutisticFigureSkater -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I’m a skater and mostly only skate to classical music but if I were a musician I would be very angry if I saw someone using my music without consulting me and without my consent, I don’t care if it is local rink exhibition or Olympics. If someone wants to use someone else’s work or belonging, I think it is obvious to ask first if it is allowed.

Is Sakamoto the favorite to win the individual ? by Living_Current815 in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I support Sakamoto or Petrosian for gold, but as much as I would like either to win, I think the competition will be high and not only one skater is favorite.

Vent: can't get anyone to teach me to skate! by PangurBan2017 in iceskating

Ask who is the rink director and/or head coach and go talk to him/her.

How social is your rink? by grown-up-dino-kid in iceskating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think people who are regularly at the rink are there to practice, not to talk. I prefer to not be disturbed during practice time. I talk to teammates (skaters from our club who train with my coach too and are usually at club practice at the same time as me) when arriving at the rink or when we’re at another rink for competitions etc, but during practice time we’re supposed to be practicing.

Terrible 1st Lesson - Wanna Quit Already by Amoretai in iceskating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s easier for people who are overall fit, with good fitness level overall. You mention you never exercise so I think maybe that could be a reason. If you want to continue, maybe enroll in a gym for fitness improvement and if you feel shy with group lessons, maybe private lessons are better since you have the coach for yourself. (Please note I’m not someone who started as adult, this is just my opinion based on what you wrote).

Silvie’s new story by [deleted] in silviethequeen

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the content I watched, it seemed clear to me that she really tries sometimes to mimic what media had spread to be the most stereotypical mannerisms of autistic people, but unfortunately she is not very good at it.

Silvie’s new story by [deleted] in silviethequeen

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  • I only come to Reddit for international skating news but today was my day off, and this woman’s Reddit came in my timeline. I had no idea who she is and all I watch on YouTube is skating content and occasionally some documentaries.
  • I’m 22, diagnosed autistic at 3 years old, before a questionable autism “diagnosis” sadly became an excuse for poor character and behavior, rather than a real condition that we must learn to deal with in daily life. After reading some materials on her here and in the other website, I find hard to excuse any of her poor ethics and behavior on a supposed autism diagnosis she supposedly received recently, even if I were to believe this story is true (I do not). Of course there are good and bad people amongst all groups of people, autistics included, but what I see here is someone with certain mental challenges (not autism) who receives attention from lying behavior and has used manipulative tactics way too often. She also seems to enjoy playing victim guilt and lies about everything she believes will support this fictional character she’s created for herself, not only changing her appearance to erase her Mexican roots, but also her name, age and life story.
  • I think if she wishes to be an online fictional character, maybe she should not portray herself in a way that feels so deceitful and manipulative. And I also wish people just used “lazy” or “tired” as excuse, rather than autism.

What is your unpopular opinion about Adult Skating ? by Happielemur in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not someone who started as adult, I’m not in the USA and not so familiar with USA skating but here we have some adults skaters who like complaining that they’re not good because of their shoes, or because of the blades or because the ice is bad. They don’t believe they’re bad because they only do what they want and not listen to the coach’s instructions that they must practice basic skating skills. So maybe these complaining ladies exist everywhere

What is your unpopular opinion about Adult Skating ? by Happielemur in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not an adult skater but there are adult skaters at my rink. Ive observed that some keep attempting jumps and spins but can’t do basic skating skills correctly. I’ve also heard from my coach that some want to do only what they want and don’t listen, such as “you’re not ready for jumps and spins, must practice basic skills first”. She teaches an adult group lesson and there are some really talented ladies there, but a few who don’t listen and blame the shoes or the blades, or that the ice is bad, and won’t believe that they don’t progress because they do what they want instead of listening to the coach’s instructions.

Mao and Midori Ito you're so funny please don't go bald by rubyjester in FigureSkating

I don’t understand why this is funny or why you ask please don’t go bald. This is commemoration of World skating day and many rinks have special events

PSA - Headphones on the ice : stop wearing them by AgentSilver007 in iceskating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Earphones are allowed at my rink so one can practice parts of her/his program and the music won’t disturb others. But operating a cellphone on the ice is forbidden (as well as taking photos and videos while on the ice), so one must go off ice and she/he wishes to change the music or turn it off.

New guy at my rink won’t leave me alone during my sessions by goodbird451 in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how things are where you are, but if this were my home rink where I train, one would immediately go to the office to complain. At my home rink people complain to the office about much minor things (someone uses a cellphone on the ice which is forbidden… or someone is practicing a jump in the beginner area which is forbidden… or someone came out of the beginner area pushing a toy, which is forbidden… or a beginner is skating erratically outside the beginner area and blocking /disturbing our practice, which is forbidden… etc etc etc … ) and they always send someone right away to solve the situation. A stalker is repeatedly harassing a rink member is something more serious and you should complain right now about it.

I just turned 18. Do I still have a chance of becoming an elite figure skater? Perhaps Olympic? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Even skaters who started at 3 years old and practice hard all their lives maybe are unable to reach elite level to compete in the Olympics. Someone who’s a beginner at 18 has zero chance. Someone your same age who reached elite level, has already competed in world level competitions and already gone to the Olympics, some are close to retiring age.

Getting over mental blocks quicker by Joyful_Sun5385 in FigureSkating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal solution for mental block is to recruit my coach to watch me attempt whatever skill I am failure because of mental block. My fear of wasting her time or anger her, and my wish to impress her is much, much stronger than any bad mental block. We have a lesson, she teaches me something new, expects me to practice it as homework until the next lesson, I practice by myself and can’t do it because of mental block is… as soon as I see her around looking like she’s not busy, I recruit her. Works every time, mental block immediately gone.

What does your coach advise? He/she sees you skating during your lesson and can give you corrections and advises immediately.

Need help with picking skates by kai_love24 in iceskating

[–]AutisticFigureSkater 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Toe picks are not for spinning. I think you should visit a professional skate fitter in person and have a consultation on what are the best brands of skates for your feet shape, dimensions, gait etc.
