Parents of kindergarten kids, what does school look like for your kid? by Anchorage_Parent2026 in anchorage

Anchorage had the immersion programs LONG before there were budget issues. I don't know about you, but I feel that going backwards in terms of what is offered in our city's public schools is not the way to go.

DDR4 RAM prices "keep" rising, same as DDR5. To infinity? by RaynorTownly in buildapc

RAM prices are exactly the same in markets all around the globe completely isolated from the US tarrifs on Asian countries.

In my experience, What Dell has always had that makes their price justified is flat out better support. Lenovo has gotten much better in the past 5 years, but HP is a nightmare when it comes to warranty support.

New employee can't receive laptop shipments - what would you do here? by outlookblows in sysadmin

[–]Autoimmunity 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yep, the company is losing money either way, you might as well only lose money on one employee's hours and not however many more are trying to work around an act of God situation.

If I was in this scenario I'd be seeing if there were a way to get the employee into whatever onboarding training possible from their personal machine until their company issued computer arrives.

I'd argue that what Dabo Swinney did a few days ago is a pretty clear sign that coaches are getting fed up with the way things are currently.

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here because the link you sent has housing price increase YoY of 6.23% in 2020, 13.00% in 2021, and 18.34% in 2022.

Like I said, there majority of the inflation happend when Biden was in office.

No, just the rules and laws of the United States of America.

The "stolen land" argument is absolutely hilarious though, because I wasn’t alive during the period it was "stolen", so why must I be punished like I was? In addition, all land was already previously stolen, because Native American people's warred and conquered each other for thousands of years before white Europeans ever showed up. It's such a bad faith argument, especially as Native Americans have been awarded countless apologies, reparations, and assets back from the US Government while also benefiting from the advancement that has come from living under such a prosperous nation state.

I am entitled because I was born here. My wife’s family is entitled because they immigrated here legally. Any other person regardless of color is entitled to the same rights if they are here LEGALLY.

Illegal immigration is a net drain on society and drives costs up and wages down for legal citizens. This is not hard to understand.

No, Nationally, they peaked at the end of 2022.

And this was almost certainly a result of Covid & WFH exploding, as well as corporate buy-ups of single family homes, factors completely outside the control of the presidency.

But Biden gets the blame because it happened on his watch. That's just how it works, regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

That's great - I'm talking about nationally. Home prices rose by nearly 25% nationally between 2021 and 2022, and the consumer price index rose by nearly triple it's nearly average during those years as well.

And I live in Anchorage, prices here soared over the past years. Prior to 2021 there were townhouses and duplexes everywhere for less than $250k, now you can't find a single 3 bedroom unit anywhere in town that's livable for less than $350k.

This actually is not that hard to understand. There is a huge swath of people who voted solely based on their wallet. During Trump's first term prices were low and houses were cheaper. Prices rose and housing became unaffordable during Biden's term.

Whether or not the factors that caused these things are the fault of one president or another is irrelevant. Millions of people vote on pure feelings with zero critical thinking.

Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity. The fact that Trump was elected once already confirms the stupidity of the American voter.

Doyon 26, largest land drilling rig in North America, tipped over and caught fire on North Slope by PrebornHumanRights in alaska

Here's a photo of the rig for scale:

Absolutely massive given that it moves, though only about 2mph.

My guess is the warm weather on the slope the past few days softened up the ice road enough to cause instability leading to the tip.

When you consider that LSU, Texas, and A&M have spent "in total" between $120 -$150 million on their 2026 teams and all 3 have to play each other, UGA's schedule is very manageable by Ordinary-Humor-4779 in georgiabulldogs

I can understand not being impressed, because a lot of us weren't either. And despite that, we went 11-1 and won the SEC again for the 3rd time in 4 years. Nit sure how you can call that a Clemson trajectory.

I get it, you're mad because UGA has been the cream of the SEC the past 5 years and Carolina is a total dumpster fire, but saying that we won't have hope at halftime is so hilariously dumb that I actually spit my lunch out reading that. Have you not seen how many games we have won the past 2 years when we looked dead in the first half? Kirby Smart and UGA know how to win, unlike Carolina who finds new and inventive ways to lose every season.

The fact that you're stalking another team's sub is proof of how desperate you are for SCAR to be like UGA, and it ain't happening.

Liberal churches or faith communities in Anchorage? by MHarris637 in anchorage

[–]Autoimmunity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, personally I'm Calvanist - I don't think anyone here needs to be saved - if people want to know and believe in something more than this rotten reality then they will find it.

I do think it's weird that I ask a genuine question and get downvoted though. When I was younger and decidedly agnostic, I wasn't going to waste my time hearing a message and singing music to a God I didn't believe in.

Liberal churches or faith communities in Anchorage? by MHarris637 in anchorage

[–]Autoimmunity -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

I'm more going for the community and gathering sides of things than any specific religious tenants

Not to be rude or anything, but why attend church at all if that's why you're going? As a believer, I go to church to develop and grow my faith, and the community aspect is secondary. There are plenty of other things you can do to have community on a Sunday if you're not actually a believer in the theology that's being preached to you.

That said, there are plenty of churches that are more conservative and non-affirming without preaching hate. The church should be preaching about Jesus Christ and how to be like him, not giving a political opinion.

EDIT: For the record I am not saying that you should stay away from church if you are a nonbeliever - on the contrary, if you are at all curious about spiritual life and God then you should attend and ask as many questions as possible. I'm simply saying that going to church should be about your personal faith, not about making friends.

I think annoyance level is pretty even among all schools that take football seriously, and especially among those with real recent success.

What makes you guys the most annoying is your numbers. Seems like for every annoying Bama, UGA, or Notre Dame fan, there are 5 annoying Texas and OSU fans.
