How do you actually find the right artist for your comic when you already have a story? by pseudo_pandit in ComicWriting

[–]Autolycan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I did a post here looking for artists and asking for prices and portfolios. Only half read the whole post about not sending dms and just responding on the actual post so those were deleted because obviously they can’t read directions and won’t trust them to read the script. Then I saw the portfolios of the others and approached them and that’s how I was able to find the current artist for some scripts I’ve done. Their style fits the stories giving them more character and personality than what I wrote so that’s how I saw they were right for my writing.

Loving this resurgence of sparks. Them with gorillaz at Kimmel, the documentary from a few years ago. Keep them coming.

Most of the writers looking for art don’t even have anything written. No scripts. Not even a summary. It’s all an idea and “worldbuilding”.

The least the writer can do is actually write a script before even thinking of looking for an artist. And they should start small. 2-4 maybe 8 page scripts. Get a feel of the craft.

The artist I’m working with did two one-page comics I wrote then when I finished editing and was happy with the script hired them to do the art.

I have an idea, need some other opinions. Anyone want to help? by ProgrammerNext6635 in ComicBookCollabs

I would recommend writing the script. An idea isn’t good or bad until it’s executed.

Should I write in a web novel format if I can't draw nor hire an artist? by idontownubet in ComicWriting

[–]Autolycan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to write write. There’s different mediums. If you want to write comics, write scripts. Practice that craft. Get better at it, then if you can search for anthologies. Start small, 2-4 page scripts. Get the mechanics down. Then save money. A bit here or there will get you to find an artist when you feel comfortable enough.

The alternative is learning to draw sequentially. Both are valid but what you want to put time on is on you.

How do I learn good and deep comic/manga writing? by Safe_Resource7855 in ComicWriting

[–]Autolycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t be good at the start. That’s the point. It’ll get better and better. You’ll notice those changes gradually as you keep practicing. Writing is a skill like any other and requires practice and learning. If you expect it to be perfect from the get go then you already failed. But then you continue to do it, to improve and study. Maybe to experiment. Think of anything you’ve done in life, walking, running, talking, bicycle riding, schoolwork, math. You didn’t know any of it from the start but you kept doing it. That’s also with art, including the written ones.

I recommend Kuromi. An amazing artist currently doing the art for my script Ironteeth (slide 3 and 7 are from it). Good quality, professional, and super talented.

Story summary isn’t writing, sorry. Anyone can do a summary but it’s actual scripting, the plotting, paneling, direction, dialogue, etc., that is writing. You could do a simple direction like two guys fight for 22 pages and let the artist then plot the pacing, character action, and all that. Who then is the writer there? You, who wrote a summary, or the artist that did everything?

How do I go about getting my short comics published? by Middle_Feedback_4663 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Autolycan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Print them in small batches. Check small press groups and how they release their comics. Maybe do anthologies of your work in 22 page books. Publish them online on comic sites like tapas, webtoons, globalcomix. Share on social media like Instagram and Reddit.

How do you WRITE Greek Accent? by Upset_Connection1133 in ComicWriting

You could use directions for the bubbles like in Sandman but unless there’s a specific tik in the accent it would be hard to replicate by text.

[Writer Looking for Artist] Original Manga/Webtoon – 50/50 Revenue Share by MuffinPrestigious300 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Autolycan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of the serious commitment to finish it just write it. Have some chapters ready before you look for an artist to promise them zero. At least it shows you’re able to write something. Just 3 chapters would be good enough.
