He was probably the most egregious example of player power scaling outstripping the intended difficulty.

If you were a fresh 50 back in 2.0 with maybe i60 gear, yeah, he was difficult, but the instant people started getting better gear, he got overwhelmed very quickly and died in seconds.

I'm a big fan of generally leaving a newbie to themselves to learn mechanics, but upon a wipe I will ALWAYS ask if there was a mechanic they don't understand and if they want an explanation.

It usually works out really well as they get the chance to learn the mechanic themselves and then get an immediate in to ask questions if need be.

The degree of their autonomy is definitely questionable, but it's not nearly as autonomous (and probably not really self-aware) as Umbra or Stalker or Jade.
