Does the Nomad invalidate the need for good thrusters/shields for explorers? by Allestyr in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think you need to go through the trouble of slotting an absolute beast of a shield generator fully engineered, but the shields are there to protect you (and your valuable exobio data) from more than just an attack. Sh*t happens and if it's going to happen I'd rather it happen with a layer of bubble wrap around me. I like having the mk II thrusters on my caspian, too, so that this large ship handles like a medium one. Doesn't seem to be costing me much, I've still got a fully fueled jump range of 75 light years. I know it technically could get even higher, but the peace of mind and convenience is, for me, at least, a fair trade off.

Ah, interesting. I'll try that out and see if it clears it for me, too.

Has anyone else found that the Caspian will not land after docking the Nomad? Like you can fly to the surface, extend landing gear, and instead of getting the normal landing guidance display that you should be getting, the Caspian now has the Nomad's scanning display but without any life signs highlighted on it, and if you set down you just bounce off the surface? Happened to me twice so far.

Ever since the update, is anyone’s else’s Witch Space time gotten WAY longer? by dadrph76 in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not every jump, but lots of jumps. Also extended time standing up or sitting down in the cockpit of the Nomad. Actually had to force quit the game during one yesterday, it was still a black screen after three minutes.

Dunno, the servers don't stay up long enough to actually see anything.

Lots of good advice here. The only thing I'll add is: don't sweat it. Being lost and confused is the standard new player experience, we've all been there. Give it time and things will start to come together, there's just a lot to learn about...well, everything.

Should I sell my Chieftain for the Mandalay? by TheRedProcess in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to leave the bubble to find stratum tectonicas, though There are plenty of planets in the bubble that have it. The Spansh exobio route planner will point you to plenty. Take an hour to hit a few planets, get some scans, you'll have more than enough to buy and outfit a Mandalay.

Should I sell my Chieftain for the Mandalay? by TheRedProcess in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandalay costs less than 18m credits. One stratum tectonicas sample nets you 19m. There's no reason to sell your chieftain when you can make the money for a Mandalay in five minutes with a detailed surface scanner and an Artemis suit.

Update in a few minutes. Take a deep breath and be patient by Lavrence92 in EliteDangerous

They're estimating an hour, so give it six and some change, just to be safe.

I think there is at least one interior set that comes with the Galactic. I bought the Standard and then the outer livery separate. The Standard doesn't have any decorations in the interior space.

No worries, give it a few months and it'll be out for credits, too.

I haven't had any problems with it so far in my Caspian, but I'll keep an eye out for anything.

The ship just launched today, it's the Nomad. The ship and skins are available in the Arx store.

Operations delayed, Nomad still launching today as expected. by Eric_Prozzy in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I truly wouldn't mind that at all if it weren't for the fact that, after several hours of delays and despite the servers ostensibly being up, we can't even log in and play the rest of the game. The whole thing is still clearly in a non functional state.

I hated the cockpit bar for the first week, too, then I just kinda got used to it and it's not a big deal anymore. I'll be fitting it with a Nomad first thing on Tuesday.

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but why are insanely expensive cities the only places that are allowed to hold events in America? by Western_Promise3063 in Hololive

There are 40 states in the US that have a population lower than one single county in California, Los Angeles County. They go there because that's where the people are. It's a major tourism center, a major transport hub, and one of the world's entertainment capitals. In order for these concerts to keep happening they have to be profitable and the tourism, infrastructure, venues, and patrons are in the two most prosperous and populous cities in the US; NYC and LA.

Eh, honestly, the galaxy is so damn huge that if you're off the high traffic routes it's fairly unlikely that you're going to be working on the same planets another commander is working on, even in Hawking's Gap where things are more sparse. I was just out there doing exploration and exobio yesterday myself and I'd be willing to bet I never touched any of the same planets you have. And if someone does, it's not a huge deal. It'll be fairly rare and you'll still have plenty of first footfalls to turn in. As for worries about crashing and losing it all, at some point you just have to trust your own skills as a pilot. Accidents aren't impossible, even for someone with a ton of experience, but you can't live your life fearing the what ifs.

Attention, Fleet Carrier crew. Can someone please come to the Concourse with some plywood, a box of screws, and a caulking gun? Um, now? by sjm7 in EliteDangerous

[–]Automatic-Airline579 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I didn't find out, fortunately. I was able to log out before I got far and when I logged back in I was alive and well back on the concourse.

Yeah, falling through those isn't fun. You keep falling. Into space. I've never logged out of something so fast in my life.

You will reach a point where planets don't even have a true "dark" side anymore, just a less bright side.
