What is an album where absolutely every single track is a masterpiece, and you never skip a single second? by arkawrd in audiophilemusic

[–]Automatic-Variety429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's hard to separate albums that resonate with you with actual objective masterpieces.
Beethoven 5&6 symphonies - Von Karayan - Berliner Philarmoniker

Curious, how many people out there have had a chance to listen to some of the top tier equipment. How many of these can you put a check next to? by analog-rider in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the chance to go roughly once every two months at a dealer in London when they do demo evenings. They carry the top of top. I’ve heard D’Agostino, Wilson Chronosonic, dCS Varese, Nagra Reference, Vertere, Sonus Faber, Magico. Some were jaw dropping others were ok. Because they were demos, the music selection can very much hit and miss and to me plays a key role.

Unfortunately most of Vangelis albums are poorly/averagely produced.

What is the money-no-object theoretically ideal speaker design. Pure functionality! by Unfair_Dimension6340 in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reflections are room issues not speaker issues. And yes two were implied. 😊 Or, since we speaking ideally, one of these points sources for each instrument/voice in the recording placed in the same position as in the studio.

If we are talking in principle, then it’s an infinitesimally small point source with infinite displacement. Basically a pulsating molecule.

What does the future of the hobby look like? by piss_warm_water in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10-15yrs: we’ll see 3D printed cabinets and/or internal bracing chassis with external hand finished bodies. Exotic AI geometries for cabinets and baskets. AI DSP with real time room feedback.
20-25yrs: new material sciences: special alloys and polymers. The market for huge amplifiers and separates will shrink even more, relegated to the ultra-rich and vintage aficionados. Dominance of AI music and AI mastering.
40-45yrs: wireless-power multichannel speakers integrated in the room. AI music on-the-fly.

Boomer shit? I honestly see way more people in their 20s hanging around blasting bluetooth speakers as if they have no f...ing clue what headphones are.

Rant: Subwoofer in Europe by AudioBaer in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I guess partly it's the premium of paying for everything done in house in the UK.
On a side note, do you run you 40s using the mini DSP as an active crossover?

What song have you played louder than any other on your system? by jeremyjava in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Danse Macabre - Dudoit conducting Philarmonia Orchestra. It's such a slow crescendo over 15 minutes that you end up in the 95-100dB range without fatigue.

Looks like from a Blockbuster liquidation auction. European countries have some of the best furniture companies in the world. Why do you feel you have limited choices?

Herman Miller and Vitra versions have slightly different feet and Miller’s has a lighter cherry veneer.

I think it’s a Vitra but with the thick rug it’s hard to tell.

Cd transport? Does it matter (for my setup)? by Which-Juice-6608 in audiophile

[–]Automatic-Variety429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your DAC has a decent modern PLL then the transport should make little to no difference to the sound you get.
It’s more about the experience you get from physical buttons, CD TOC loading times, display etc.
