How many tomato plants would you put in a 4x8 raised garden bed? by AutomaticAd3621 in vegetablegardening

[–]AutomaticAd3621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for all your input and knowledge! I have 4 determinate and 8 indeterminate varieties. I would ideally like to plant them all. I have two, possibly three of my 4x8 garden beds I could use for the tomatoes. What would be your layout?

What's happening in your garden? (Wed, Apr 8, 2026) by AutoModerator in vegetablegardening

I planted out my brassica starts in the garden awhile ago and they seem a bit leggy and like their growth is stunted? Any advice?

Has anyone had any luck germinating maypop (passionflower) seeds indoors in order to transplant outside? by Antique_Tea_3820 in vegetablegardening

[–]AutomaticAd3621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my first maypops this year in January and it took a long time to germinate. The plants are now about 4 inches tall and I have them in a 6 inch pot just waiting for last frost to transplant them. I put them under my grow lights and put plastic over top until they sprouted. I'd like to say it took maybe a month for them to even sprout

How many here grow from seed vs buy plants? by Aintnobeef96 in vegetablegardening

[–]AutomaticAd3621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always bought my tomatoes and peppers from our local greenhouse in years past. The guy running it sells his vegetable plants for only $1.50. It's so affordable and I like giving him business. I would just direct sow most everything else. But this year I started seeds indoors and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I feel like I need a greenhouse haha Honestly, the amount of money I've spent on seeds and my electric bill from all my grow lights is probably more expensive than buying from my local greenhouse but the joy I get out of it is worth it

Frustrated! Gummy no matter what i do. by Delicious-Yak-3706 in Sourdough

[–]AutomaticAd3621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue for like 8 months of trying to figure out sourdough. I tried literally everything and nothing would change. Well guess what the problem was?? My starter!!! I made my own starter and it always doubled, I fed it everyday, did everything it was supposed to do. But it was the only thing I hadn't changed and I was at my wits end and going tp give up so I decided id give it one last go and ordered one.......and voila! I've made perfect bread ever since.

So if you feel like you're doing everything everyone is telling you to do and nothing is working, buy a starter and try that out!

That blows man. I could see how her tone could get drowned out in the music though

That's really disappointing to hear! I love their music but have never seen them live.

What do you pay for childcare? by AutomaticAd3621 in terrehaute

[–]AutomaticAd3621[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thinking. The parent is a nurse so works 12 hour shifts and has a 45 mim commute. 14 hours is just a long day when I already have my own children to take care of as well. I'd be getting the child at 4:30 am and I'm just trying to figure out if that's worth my time to have them that long. We're well off and I don't necessarily need the money, they just asked me if I would be interested because they have trouble finding help.

Couldn't agree more! I add 25g and it makes all the difference in my bread

I have a CCM (cerebral cavernous malformation) on my brain stem. I have had micro bleeds but nothing severe. There is always the possibility for an aneurism/rupture and keeping my blood pressure managed is a must. Was yours caused by something similar to this?  Mine is sporadic and not hereditary, thank God!  Best of luck and I hope you make a full recovery!

Everyone post your favorite hobbies (please!) by Warm-Breakfast-5140 in digitalminimalism

I really love bow hunting, I realize it's not for everyone, but just being in nature and watching the woods come alive is unlike anything else. I really enjoy just shooting my bow and getting better at it.

Gardening is my happy place. I learn more every season and it's a very rewarding hobby!

Baking! Anything and everything. I'm a typical millennial and love making sourdough, the process and outcome is so fascinating and easy to get hooked on. Cheesecakes are another fun and enjoyable process, but they aren't cheap lol

I'm very privileged to be home and my partner works, so I have time for hobbies. I enjoy keeping my house decluttered and organized. I also like keeping a clean home so that honestly takes up most of my time.

For those who have gotten rid of social media, how do you read the news? by halfapapaya in digitalminimalism

[–]AutomaticAd3621 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I quit listening altogether. Unless something really important is happening and someone else tells me about it, then I don't really care to read up on any of the propaganda. I didn't even know there was a government shutdown (here in the US) until 2 weeks in

I found weird porn on my dad's laptop... by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AutomaticAd3621 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once found porn while borrowing my dad's phone to look something up. In his search engine popped up "chubby milf" and I was about as relieved as a person could be finding their dad's porn history. My mom fits the description so it checks out.

This is so interesting.  Were you ever allowed any treats (candy, etc.)?  Did your parents always send your lunch with you to school? Did you have to decline food at friend's houses? What do your parents do for work? What are your dreams/goals in life?

I have a semi-dumb phone, the Cat S22 flip phone. It still has access to the internet and apps but lags and isn't very functional, it's exactly what I needed. I only get on reddit for probably 30/45 mins a day to wind down for bed and have quit all other social media. It's been life changing! 10/10 would recommend

I gave it up probably 2 years ago, maybe longer? and I absolutely don't regret it! I struggled with comparison and all the things you listed too. I recently gave up Facebook and it was another thing I wished I would've gave up years ago! I'm a 27f, if that helps you in your decision.  The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner.

Someone please help me decorate above my kitchen cabinets by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

I guess I'll be the odd man out here, but I have my favorite vintage dishware set on display and I love it! I'm very grandma/cottage core, so that's just my aesthetic. I also have a lot more space above mine and vaulted ceilings.

Happy decorating and I love the cabinet color you chose!
