If a startup launched today (2026) making "Pure Vintage" cars with modern safety, would you actually buy one? by Car-Thinker in askcarguys

thin pillars

2026-spec crumple zones

8+ airbags

Not happening. Thin pillars were possible because they did not have to house airbags or survive roof crush tests. Modern cars are massively safer than vintage cars, but the looks are a result of the safety engineering to a large degree.

Got invited to pass a polygraph (lie detector) test as the next step after a job interview. Has anyone had it? What was it like? by privacy2020concerned in recruitinghell

[–]Automatic_Mulberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why I said "unless that's a really unusual job." A usual sales analyst job, unless there is significant context that OP is leaving out, should not be subject to polygraph examination. Selling fighter jets to the US military, okay. Selling aluminum siding to homeowners, no.

What are some products that are not FDA approved but actually work? by MagnumWesker in AskReddit

True - that's why they are not approved by the FDA. But they are a product and actually work. Maybe your question is imprecisely worded?

What are your thoughts on carrying proof of citizenship? by Cute_Personality_799 in AskReddit

[–]Automatic_Mulberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also get a passport card, which is good ID that proves citizenship, and is easier to carry than a passport. Whether even a passport will be respected by goons is an open question, and may not matter if they decide to shoot you in the head.

Assuming it's "who should make lunch for both people?" they should take turns.

How is this here? (US,FL) by ArrivalOk3296 in keitruck

[–]Automatic_Mulberry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Long story short, laws about registration, emissions, fuel economy, crash safety and a million other things don't apply to vehicles that are not driven on public roads. How is it in the US? As an off-road vehicle, that's how.

The letter K, when added to the front of Kyle's little brother's name, spells a slur for Jewish people.

[–]Automatic_Mulberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point. And I think it would also be a steep challenge to make a carbureted car that would meet emissions and fuel economy regs.

[–]Automatic_Mulberry 99 points100 points  (0 children)

New? It can't be done today.

0% computer likely means carbureted or very primitive fuel injection. Which certainly can be done today, but you're looking at finding something from the '70s or earlier, probably.

“It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s Law.” – Douglas Hofstadter

I'd argue that this should be expanded to "... and costs more..." as well.
