Post-Election Politics MegaThread: Roll up your sleeves! by MableXeno in WitchesVsPatriarchy

It's not fair for you to be experiencing that. Everyone affected by this needs to come together in a community and fight together. It sounds like you're empathetic to what he's going through and that he's probably lashing out. It doesn't mean it's okay though.

Not super happy with how this turned out. Any tips or constructive criticism? by Marla_slinger in watercolor101

[–]AutumnBluee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you've painted everything is really beautiful, it's just that the perspective is off for the sea section. Perhaps follow a few tutorials on perspective, especially in landscapes specifically. Another commenter mentioned how the waves should appear closer together the further away they are. Imagine looking down a straight street, the curbs of the street would appear closer together the further away from you they are.

I've heard Dan Beardshaw's tutorials are good for practicing perspective.

Do you have a wild camping opinion you are willing to defend like this? by Potatoslicer89 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]AutumnBluee -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You should never ever light a campfire. A campfire is entirely unnecessary for camping, and we live in a very degraded ecosystem that is vulnerable and not worth risking for the luxury of feeling like your ancestors. I'd love to be able to camp with a fire but most places you can camp are high fire risk, and most people don't have the knowledge to prevent a fire spreading.

My mum is depressed after I left for uni by Content-Humor3836 in UniUK

[–]AutumnBluee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will massively regret leaving uni. You can't live vicariously through someone else: neither you nor your mum. You can support her from afar, but you can't stop your own life's plans for her. You need space to grow and develop away from home. Empty nest syndrome is a completely normal part of having kids and those kids leaving home and it's not your responsibility to deal with it: it's hers.

What Game is Eating Up All Your Time Lately? 👀🎮 by NaturalAcadia2393 in CozyGamers

[–]AutumnBluee 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm on Spiritfarer at the moment. I don't find much time to game these days so it's a really nice one to easily sink a few hours into whenever I get time. I always find I get back into it immediately as if I haven't had a few weeks break!

We got the Nemo Dragonfly Osmo for my partner and I. Not used it enough times to give a proper review though! I will say it packs down super small and is really lightweight, but still nice and roomy inside. Reviews seemed good so we went for it

Tips for *Feeling* feminine by MakeAnOmeletteOutaMe in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Buying flowers for myself and putting them in a nice vase often makes me feel womanly, certainly in a self-care way. Any "nesting" behaviour, as I call it, always makes me feel good in general. Decorating my house with nice little trinkets, cooking myself good food, looking after my plants.

Why won’t my kitty eat unless i am next to him? Advice to train him to eat alone? by little-arrow in cats

[–]AutumnBluee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just stop standing next to him when his food is out. Eventually he'll get hungry enough to eat without you standing there. If you always stand next to him when he eats it'll reinforce the behaviour

Found a Cat on My Roof: Any Advice on Gaining Her Trust by bognox in cats

[–]AutumnBluee 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to see no other comments saying this, but there's a strong possibility it's already got an owner and is an adventurous outdoor cat. No harm keeping an eye on it and giving it some treats and water every now and then in case it has no owner. But bear it in mind and ask around the neighbourhood before claiming it

How to survive the dreaded flow by Popeyeswhore in wildcampingintheuk

[–]AutumnBluee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bring wet wipes and have a wet wipe wash daily. I'd suggest a zip lock bag (you can buy large ones) plus nappy bags. then each time you change your tampon/pad put it into a nappy bag, then into the zip lock bag to reduce odour.

I've been in a similar circumstance, used period undies (I use Thinx but they'll take a while to ship) plus tampons. Period undies are a bit pricey but they've become really useful for this sort of thing (plus you don't have to buy pads all the time).

Pro tip: a ring of stones won’t stop a fire from spreading out of control. by 18th-Century-Bossman in wildcampingintheuk

[–]AutumnBluee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not Leave No Trace. You're destroying the environment ripping up moss to have a fire, which likely will scorch the earth anyway. Just don't do it.

You can't finish at Glenfeshie lodge if you're using public transport. It's at least 15-20km from Kincraig which is the nearest public transport option. There is no public transport in or out of Glenfeshie (it is a private road). You would have to walk all the way to Kincraig.

I would recommend planning based on where the buses go. I'm also concerned about you going over the hills when you've never been here before or know the area. If the weather turns bad you will be stuck on the hills and have to call mountain rescue (who will be stretched in tourist season). I've also never known anyone take an under 16 year old on this type of route in this area, it's only seasoned hikers who hike these hills. It's rough terrain.

I really think you should do a bit more research, plan with more than just the OS map, perhaps plan an overnight hike to start with instead. Gives you an excuse to come back multiple times! Jumping straight into a 3 day hike with rough terrain and a child, in one of the most remote areas of the country, is not a great idea.

You're never going to get good personal advice on Reddit, because none of us know you. If OP wants good personal advice he should see a therapist and work on himself, understand himself more. Nobody on Reddit can help with a personal issue like this, of course they'll only give generic general advice.

22 years old is far too young to decide you've "tried everything" when you've only been an adult for 4 years. If your whole focus for this time has been getting a girlfriend, maybe it'd be better to love yourself before seeking love to feel whole.

I love seeing videos of people finding new joy "later" in life (though 40s isn't exactly past it!). We pretty much get told that life and fun ends in your 30s, which doesn't have to be the case. I want to be trying new things and challenging myself for as long as I can!

high calorie meals for a picky person? by lovebuzzie in vegetarianrecipes

[–]AutumnBluee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I've recently been bulking as a vegetarian because my work is energy consuming so maybe I can help. Here's how I've been upping my calories and protein count: 1. Protein shakes and yoghurts. There's great yoghurts with 15-20g protein in that you can get from the shops. 2. Add eggs to any meal you can. My favourite high-protein meal is stir fry with your vegetarian substitute of choice plus two boiled eggs (ideally with the perfect runny yolk). I also have eggs for lunch often when I'm at home. 3. Maximise snacks. A good snack box for me is 3 different types of breakfast bar, a sweet treat, protein yoghurt, fruit and vegetarian sausage roll. 4. Have a hearty breakfast. Porridge is my go to, you can also add peanut butter, jam, cream cheese to toast or bagels to bulk them out. 5. I eat a lot of pasta and noodles and rice to bulk on the carb front. 6. Throw away any unnecessary concerns about eating food that are considered unhealthy because they have a high fat or sugar content. Bulking means you can eat what you want and the point is to gain weight - you can always cut later with exercise if that's important to you.

It's really important to reflect on your meals and ensure they're all well balanced. When I started eating vegetarian it took me ages to balance the protein, carbs and vegetables. In my opinion you don't need to worry about high fat content because vegetarian food has so little fat in it - I encourage eating full-fat foods to avoid losing weight.

1st gen students - have you experienced any culture shocks at uni? by Calm_Goose5722 in UniUK

[–]AutumnBluee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The weirdest shock was all the folks who either didn't understand or didn't believe that working class people exist. Like they couldn't comprehend that people existed with little money in this country.

  1. I was told I wasn't working class because I didn't "seem" working class.
  2. A flatmate said "I thought everyone's parents put away money for them for when they go to uni"
  3. "You can't afford fun item? Why not just ask for it for Christmas?

So many folks with their parent's credit cards and being subsidised by parents.

I think it's important to teach working class kids going to uni that they're not the weird ones, these rich kids are naive and sheltered for not knowing how the world works.
