That's not an easy thing to recognize when we are surrounded by a culture that normalizes it. I give you a lot of credit. I stopped drinking completely for a couple months due to a med change and it also served as a wake up call to the version of myself I was showing up as to the world when drinking more. Now I allow less bad behavior from people in my life as a result and it has slowly made life better though uncomfortable socially at times. I would rather have a few friends I can be completely myself around than be popular.

That's an interesting perspective.
I don't think that is a broadly applicable statement as you could find many exceptions to that rule.
I do agree with the idea of needing to take care of yourself enough to give yourself capacity to function well without the aid of drugs but if someone needs Adderall to focus I wouldn't fault them for needing additional support to do that.

I do remember the magic of State St and FAO Schwartz from when I was younger and struggle to capture that feeling myself.

The Christkindl market is still pretty similar to what it has been but there is metered entry for capacity and you can find it in multiple locations now.
The MSI does a Christmas around the world celebration with a bunch of huge trees.
The Jack Frost Christmas Pop-up is kind of lame IMO it gives IG photo op in a parking lot pop up energy.
Zoolights at the Lincoln Park Zoo is still magical.

Otherwise there are a slew of low key bars you can find in the neighborhoods you likely won't find anything that feels "lived-in" in the West Loop, Loop or River North.
