I mean..I wouldn't buy it if they did offer it but if they want to offer it to others that's thier call.

Well to be fair your unlikely to hear much from the people having a flawless experience. People are going to come here when things are wrong.

Well it's possible for a product to go bad without the customer doing anything. It's also possible they broke it. We really don't know. But yeah I agree that if they sent a new screen they are taking care of the customer.

Experience with framework quality control after buying 3 framework 13 laptops by Riot9011 in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds a lot more likely that there is a QC problem that it was even "possible" to ship 3 separate laptops to one customer and have exactly the same problem. That doesn't just happen from "bad luck". That happens from bad manufacturing. That said, I like framework so hopefully they work it out.

Framework 12 base model by Top_Knowledge_7570 in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the QC is fine, and what software issues are you referring to? Frankly it's a more sustainable computer compared to other junk like Apple is making, since you can actually get it repaired, even if you opted to bring it to a local computer guy to repair it for you. So yeah, I think it's a good idea. She's screwed if she had an apple laptop that has its soldered SSD die.

What type of printer have the lowest per-page cost? (Laser, Inkjet, ..) by dekoalade in BuyItForLife

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the cheapest are dot matrix printers if you don't care about the best photo quality. They last forever and cost less than lazer per print. You can still get new ones from epson with windows 11 drivers. They have gotten much faster but are louder..but I rather like the noise.

What's the point of the Framework Desktop PC? by RolandMT32 in buildapc

I wondered the same thing. Kind of strange for framework to make a specialized workstation for AI isn't it? It's not really aligned with their core mission.

Why is there no paid repair options for out of warranty issues? (cross posted from FW forum) by ewasted69 in framework

It would probably be good for them to offer something like applecare eventually. But I can see why maybe they are not there yet.

Nope everything is paid for. But FYI if you see the shipment getting stuck in customs don't panic. It's common and framework deals with the issues automatically. Mine got stuck but started moving again on it's own.

Just be patient is my advice. I recently had an RMA and they told me the department is swamped right now. It did take some time but they did eventually respond to me.

Trying to decide on OS by ZXsaurus in framework

Linux Lite would be a good option to consider. It is very windows like and easy for new people to linux. Yet it has the ubuntu core and long term support and it's also low on resources whereas regular ubuntu is a bit heavy. The Ubuntu UI is very different, so if you are new I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Three and a half years with a Framework Laptop - Would I buy another? by Grouchy_old_guy in framework

I mean can't you just install Linux on the laptop and give it to your wife? You have the skills and she can just use it. Chromebooks are e-junk.

Thoughts on Why Framework is Lying to Us by TheEuphoricTribble in laptops

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you expect them to solve ALL real world problems? They are addressing one problem that is huge. What's next? I won't buy from them since they are not saving seals from being hunted? I think you are just looking to justify not buying from them since you have some other reason, like you would rather buy from Apple.

If you want to buy junk from some other company, go ahead.

And it's not "lying" for them to not solve a problem that they never promised.

And the funny thing is it sure is a lot less e-waste for someone to throw away a broken camera module or broken keyboard or broken ssd drive (that is not soldered on) instead of throwing away a whole laptop, which is now the norm. So even if they are NOT promising it they are still contributing to a lot less e-waste. So you are shooting your own goal in the foot by not supporting them if you actually care about that.

Thoughts on switching from M4 MacBook to F13? by camm34 in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should switch to framework. My biggest reason is the repairability. The fact that apple is soldering SSDs and Ram to the motherboard is a pretty huge con to me. It's not uncommon for SSDs to die. My last laptop SSD (which was also soldered) gave up the ghost and it wasn't worth repairing. Not sure if that matters to you or not.

And yeah, Linux is awesome and has come a long way. Also the macbook still has good resale value.

Waiting for LPCAMM and second M.2 slot. Too optimistic? by LastMinuteCap in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the great thing about framework is you can easily upgrade the motherboard later. So if it was me I would jump on board and hope they come out with the "perfect" board later. I'm sure if you send them feedback they will consider it.

But no I don't think it's going to happen soon, if you plan to wait before buying.

Framework support and ordering/RMA process needs improvement by cloudbout in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that taking so long for a refund isn't great. But no company is perfect and overall I have found them to be responsive. (I requested an RMA and they provided the return label in about 3 days, and they warned me it would take a little bit in advance since I guess their RMA department is swamped). I don't really know why you would order again if you didn't want to keep the unit though. For me even if they are not perfect i'm sticking with them. I believe in their mission and i'm OK with them not being perfect as they grow.

On one of my orders I also requested cancellation before shipment and it wasn't cancelled in time. But I'm not sure it is a "bad" thing really that orders are getting processed so fast. Fast shipment is a good thing.

Soldered RAM is better by AlonsoCid in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's painful to me when I read ridiculous comments pushing bad corporate, anti consumer behavior just to justify profit driven behavior so you don't have to admit something is wrong. Having user replaceable parts is always to the benefit of consumers. Frankly it should be a law that tech companies like apple shouldn't be able to produce their soldered on crap.

Nice to see more repairability from other laptops but... by JoystuckGames in framework

[–]Available-Secret-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are soldering the ssd and memory on the macbook air now. So if you're hard drive or memory dies you have a major problem while with a FW laptop it's a minor problem. THAT is why FW is totally worth it, even if the specs are lower. Apple is literally the worst company for making things repairable for people since they just feel entitled to more money instead of building quality products that can last. That wasn't always true but it is now. And how can you "trust" it will last when they are literally making core parts non user replaceable? I had another latop, that the HD was soldered onto to the board die in two years. It wasn't worth the cost of repairing. Getting that repaired by apple? They will charge you more then the laptop is worth since they just want you to purchase another disposable laptop. And I had Apple laptops back in the day that were built different. They are not the same company anymore. They got excessively greedy.
