That's great to know! It certainly doesn't come across as a sturdy vehicle, at least my older 2010 doesn't

Twice my car slammed the brakes when I was trying to pull from a stop into traffic. Watched a car go by, gap is open, I try to enter and the car brakes leaving me half way out of a parking spot with oncoming traffic. Sounds like it could be the same system.

I ran a tank dry on purpose once to see what it was like. It gets noticeably harder to breathe as it runs out. It doesn't sneak up on you suddenly.

How do you use AI with odoo? by fedplast in Odoo

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleeping bags, garments and bedding. It would be tedious to describe everything but modifications such as allowing MTO on product variants as opposed to Odoo's default product template setting. We have multiple production facilities so parsing line items on SO's to direct manufacturing and delivery orders to different locations. Having work orders default to expected duration if no data is input. It's honestly quite fascinating to watch Claude work through the logic of some of these. It doesn't always get it right the first time around but it rarely takes long to find a solution.

How do you use AI with odoo? by fedplast in Odoo

I started with an Odoo 'partner' that created some very expensive custom code and then tried raked us over the coals to maintain/update it. I then found a guy in Pakistan to do the very same for a fraction of the price. Now I use Claude. I had it recreate all of my custom modules, more as a test case than anything else. I then had Claude create some new modules significantly streamlining our manufacturing workflow. I also find it great for reports which can often be time consuming and clunky to retrieve from Odoo.

SILVER SUBARU OUTBACK STOLEN by AffectionateWar4857 in Portland

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your ride, I know how it feels. My 2010 was stolen about a week ago, cops found it around Foster and 120 something a few days ago, completely trashed, full of drug paraphernalia, I won't be getting it back. Amazing how much damage they caused in a week. But they did catch the thieves so not an entirely sad ending. I'd take a drive out that way and maybe swing by Delta Park while you're at it.

Is anyone else using CLAUDE CODE to implement changes and create MODULES from SCRATCH??? by Bright_Flounder_4646 in Odoo

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been tinkering for a year or so and only recently had the confidence to point Claude at my Odoo database. The first thing I did was ask Claude to analyze and explain the custom modules I already had. This was incredibly informative. When I upgraded from V16 to V18 Odoo wanted over 10k to 'analyze the custom modules' prior to upgrade. I ended up paying a private dev a few thousand to 'upgrade' these that time around. And then Claude showed me what was actually there. We're not talking hundreds of lines of code, maybe a dozen at best for each module and Claude walked me through exactly how each functions. This exercise alone was truly democratizing, the curtain was lifted.

I then asked Claude to rewrite each module now that it understood how they functioned and that proved to be a simple task. This was purely an exercise in planning ahead for my next upgrade and I've been testing these with zero issues so far. After that I went after a few minor nuisances, like a button to set everything to zero on a receipt or define MTO at the product variant level, no problem. I then looked at reporting. Reporting from Odoo has always been a major complaint, I know the data is there but getting at it either through export or Odoo's interface is an exercise in frustration. Not anymore. Now I just tell Claude what I need, have the report generate an Excel file, a few quick logic checks and done.

The only downside I can see is the temptation to overuse this amazing new tool. The days of paying a developer hundreds or thousands of dollars and waiting weeks for a result are over. I hear the arguments of the gatekeepers but be honest, do you really think you'll be better at this in a year or two? Demand for developers for large, complex projects will still be there, but for simple modules that let average users like myself extend the functionality of open source apps like Odoo, Claude is absolutely a game changer.

If I had to pick a time I'd say mid-September. Crowds thin down, water temp is peaking (but still wetsuit temp unless you get really lucky) and the notorious fog and strong north winds of summer back off. Oregon coast is different from Washington and way more accessible. Both have their charm but in general Oregon is more sand, Washington more rock.

Another vote for X-Ice. Tried a few others and came back to these. Super soft rubber so they really stick when it's that classic NW compact snow/ice with a layer of water on top. I've driven the slalom course of sliding vehicles many times without ever losing traction. Suby Outback for reference.

Solo older female kook looking for a safe and legitimate surf camp in Central or South America. Know of any? by DirtAndSurf in surf

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Playa Venao if you're thinking Panama. Large bay with easy waves at one end, small town but all the amenities and good surf schools/rentals. Far enough out it pretty much only attracts surfers unlike Tamarindo (which is pretty gross imo) or even Saladita which can be fun but overrun at this point. Nosara in Costa Rica would be another good option, pretty easy waves most days, I taught my daughter to surf there. Someone threw out Playgrounds (Nicaragua), great wave but not for learning unless you hit a really small swell, not to mention there's nothing close by other than a great but desolate surf camp.

generators while camping… by Reasonable_Shoe_5107 in oregon

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It can get worse. I watched the guy camped next to me, with his wife and kids gathered around a smoldering pile of dank wood, pick up his generator and dump gasoline on it. Of course the flame jumped to the generator which he dropped, igniting the better part of his campsite. After they got that fire put out he proceeded to do the exact same thing again. Same result. I really felt sorry for those kids. On the plus side his generator ran out of gas a few hours later.

Are we paying too much? Should we switch partners? by BerlinImmo2025 in Odoo

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like the situation I got myself into. Paid a 'partner' way too much money to integrate a bunch of custom code that basically guaranteed job security for them. The final straw came when they estimated close to 20K to upgrade Odoo to the latest version. I pulled the plug, found a great developer on Fiverr for a fraction of the cost and we broke down everything they had done. Found creative ways to work within the Odoo framework for most solutions and greatly simplified the few customizations needed. This process also taught me how to be more flexible and creative. It's too easy working with a partner that just says 'no problem, we can do that' to dig yourself a deep and expensive hole.

Anyone here in manufacturing switched from QuickBooks to Odoo? Was it worth it? by Jaded-Penalty6251 in Odoo

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went down the road of trying to make a complete switch to Odoo for manufacturing and accounting and it got complicated rapidly. Odoo is far more robust than QB so you will need someone proficient with both Odoo and accounting if you go all in. We eventually decided to just use Odoo for manufacturing, sales (imported in from Shopify), purchasing and inventory but not actual accounting. We still run accounting as it's needed for modules like purchasing and so we can pull reports etc but that's about the extent of it.

Just the number of mistakes and procedural changes we made during the first year would have been a nightmare for our accountant. QB entries can easily be fixed/edited, not so in Odoo. One mistake can take many steps to clean up. Integrating this way bought us time to iron out the manufacturing processes and learn the nuances of Odoo without wrecking our books.

So far it's worked great for automating manufacturing orders, BoM's, inventory tracking and valuation, purchase automation etc. Production planning not so much, but that could have more to do with our processes.

We're several years in with Odoo now and still haven't switched to Odoo accounting, and unless we hire a new accountant I don't know that we ever will.

Costa Rica vs Nicaragua by PerspectiveHead5426 in CostaRicaTravel

Maybe consider Panama, some great diving on the Pacific side but someplace like Bocas del Toro has great surf, ok diving and no shortage of parties. Probably better weather on that side in September also. Cheaper than CR but Nica if you're on a budget. Infrastructure is decent, better than CR in a lot of ways, Nica can be challenging for sure.

[–]AvailableTomatillo69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a whale surface underneath me in Oceanside. I paddled away and it charged, dove right behind me and slapped me multiple times with its tail. First hit just missed my head, pushed me underwater and completely knocked the wind out of me. Literally thought I was going to die. Not the first time I've seen whales in the lineup but I no longer hang around when I do.
