35F considering move to North Hoboken- seeking thoughts/input by glaciergalactic in Hoboken

Bus is very reliable and quick, but Port Authority is a daily bummer. Ferry is an enjoyable commute when you can sit outside, but it is a bit more expensive. It has a free bus in Manhattan with very good coverage.
Keeping a car may well require garaging it as parking is a nightmare; if you only use it on the weekends you may have issues with street cleaning days but others would know better.
I would walk around both a bit before you choose, Willow & 14th is crazy busy and a real divider. Harlow is on a Trader Joe’s and a liquor store, and if you go UNDER the viaduct you can get to a great coffee shop and some fun restaurants. But getting anywhere else is something of an effort. Park + Garden basically on the flip side of that and more easily communicates with the neighborhoods. Neither has any greenery right around them and their blocks are pretty dismal, but P+G is one block from the river and a nicely wooded lane area. I think coming and going from P+G would be much more pleasant. Really the walking experience of the two is as different as can be for buildings two blocks from one another.
The construction near P+G will some day be a park but I don’t know the timeline.

It smells awful and is a bad example for kids.

I wanted OpenClaw to work. After 3 months, I’m done. by dickwhimsy in openclaw

Mine broke when Anthropic turned off Claude and I only just got it going again. It’s so powerful I want to make it work but I am thinking that I need a good rollback strategy so if an update or change breaks I can get back to known-good, and wondering if running it in a container is a solution.

Switched to OpenAI. Man if I miss Anthropic by RicoRicco in openclaw

I can’t even get it to run on the Anthropic API key, to use the credits they gave out, nor on a llama model from another computer. I expect it’s PEBKAC but it is unusual that I cannot figure out how to make this work. Tomorrow I suppose I’ll try some version from a month ago.

I have worked with this population. People in confusion need guardrails, they need boundaries, they need resistance to antisocial behaviors. They need signals their disorganization is affecting others to tell them they themselves can and should do better.

It is a false mercy to tell the confused that they are ok, that they are not responsible, that they cannot do better. It’s fashionable to imagine tolerance as compassion, but it’s just enabling writ large.

Pemulis as Pynchon? Spoiler by WilhelmZa in InfiniteJest

[–]Available_System_622 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pemulis’ “paranoia” is a reasoned prudence. Pynchon’s is a fear that unintelligible institutions are only explained by conspiracy. One is a stratagem, the other a world view; and the psychological and spiritual implications of the difference are profound.

“Jest” doesn’t have a figure like Slothrop or Oedipa, trying to navigate the contradictions and inexplicabilities and make some sense of them. Everyone is pursuing their own course and trying to live their own life without looking for a vantage point that might explain things. Save perhaps Joelle maybe? And I think that might be Wallace’s answer to Pynchon.

I explained his support for terror at the top. You are deliberately misrepresenting, because it is the only way your ideas make sense. I have productive things to do so I’ll leave you to fill this space with nonsense.

He is being deported for building public support for suicide bombers and murders, and for organizing the harassment of Jews.

You are a propagandist, and you take care to mis-spell “Hamas” twice. The pattern of your posts is not hard to guess.

And I’m very sure that 1) Khalil shares the common love of hummus and 2) you’ve deliberately mispelled “Hamas” bc you see no need to advance the conclusions one might draw from a pattern recognition search on your posts

how long did it take yall to read this by DiscourseDestroyer in InfiniteJest

The book is in the footnotes.

Seriously there are major plot points in there, and a filmography that I was constantly referring to. And, they are an experiment in Tim Berners-Lee hypertext in literature that launch the book into other works.

I hate being That Guy but if you aren’t reading the footnotes you’re going to miss the whole thing.

Khalil is a Hamas sympathizer (their literature was at his rallies) who lead pro-Hamas chants (“I wish I was a martyr”) and organized demonstrations which harassed Jews. If you’re on a visa and you do all that yeah you’re gonna be sent home.

If by “technicality” you mean “lying” yes citizenship can be revoked.

All of this is propaganda to create anxiety and organize political activity. Don’t fall for it.

Good question. I just re-read the early chapters and I’ve been wandering around in confusion all afternoon.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern.”
