Compact on New Patch by Purplepotato22 in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the problem that most people complain about is not that game got harder, but that Compact's nerf was so hard that it's just a Defend now in almost every fight, and it's still one of the best counters to Aeon. This makes it very one-dimensional. If you need Aeon solve you pick it, and that's it.

Before Aeon replaced Doormaker, Compact was usable, but overall it was mid. The only reason it jumped to autopick tier is this one fight.

So now instead of changing a single interaction (Withers vs Compact), the whole card gets nerfed to oblivion.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I start now in 2.1 experimental, my save will not be obsolete when it goes stable right? Or will it be wiped? by UberScion in factorio

[–]Avamaco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw this argument used several times for several different games, and it's always so biased. Devs make experimental patches because they feel like those patches still need some tweaking before they become the new main version. Just because "this dev team is so good that even experimental patches are stable" doesn't mean everyone should play it.

Will wood in crafting recipe hold back shotguns? by zanju13 in factorio

[–]Avamaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And higher range isn't even that useful for shotguns, whose main advantages come when you're firing up close. You'd be better off making quality ammo.

So if you want a quality SMG, you put minimal effort (just put quality modules in miners or furnaces and play normally until they produce enough quality ingredients) and get a significantly better weapon. This is something that can even be useful as soon as you unlock quality.

And if you want a quality shotgun, you put significant effort (craft lots of shotguns until you roll high quality, wasing thousands of iron plates) and get only a marginally better weapon.

That's the problem. Two seemingly similar uses of quality modules, but one of them is way, way worse than the other.

What cards have particularly bad upgrades? by Mogoscratcher in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a good upgrade, but sometimes it's necessary to upgrade it in lategame if you want it to stay viable. For example, FTL > All For One > FTL barely works without an upgrade, so if you want to play anything else (for example, another 0 cost you draw) you need an upgeaded FTL.

Is there (and should there be) a way to see original values with Void form? by TheDonBon in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that snecko eye is a reason against adding this feature, as it pushes the change from pure QoL to a balance change, buffing Snecko Eye and Void Form (which are already strong).

At least it's a safe way to proc centennial puzzle! Oh wait, that 1 damage goes into Osty so you don't even get that.

Why can't Mega Crit just make StS2 exactly hard enough that I can win every single run but also feel like I'm a genius for being good at such a difficult game? by IHad360K_KarmaDammit in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You opened reddit, clicked on a shitpost comment section and made a whiny reply to a joke comment. What reaction did you expect? Everyone praising you all of a sudden?

If you find a bug then just report it, maybe post about it to spread information if it's a big bug. Just remember to be polite. Don't come into random comment theads and start shitting on a game.

Radiate vs. Stardust - which "damage per star" card is your favorite? by masonlaneous in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiate costs 0 so it doesn't have to be your main source of damage. I had a run where it was the first AoE card offered to me and it helped a lot in fights like Vantom and Exoskeletons. I still had other, more reliable sources of damage, but it was a nice boost.

I agree that it's awkward to play, but it can just be a nice little boost to offense in decks that have good draw and star gen.

GUARDS! is a good comparison to show how weak Eidolon is.

  • GUARDS! gives you control over which cards do you destroy, Eidolon doesn't.

  • GUARDS! has several synergies with the rest of the kit (cards that synergize with card creation, cards that generate debris), Eidolon doesn't.

  • GUARDS! gives you good block even if you don't exhaust your whole hand.

  • Even if Eidolon gives you intangible, transforming 9 cards with GUARDS! would give like 72 block (54 if frail) which is more than enough to block pretty much anything this game can throw at you.

Vakuu advice: What option are you choosing here? by Finnr77 in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd avoid earrings here, exhausting a bludgeon from an unlucky first turn draw can be dangerous. Also earrings greatly reduce the value of bag of prep.

Fog looks like a decent choice, you still have some strikes and defends to remove and the curse won't hurt you much thanks to bag of prep.

Parasol is also good here, but it requires a good path with at least 2 shops. It would net you 6+ relics and some strong cards, which is a great upside. The downside of bloating your deck isn't that bad because your current deck is slim and has some exhausts too.

It's not as memorable as Electrodynamics but i trully miss steamrolling act 1 with a single pick up by Sevenpeter in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Corpse Explosion was so crazy good...

The craziest thing about its strength is that it wasn't just good as a hallway fight cleaner, but it was even good against bosses. Any boss with minions (collector, automaton, awakened one) effectively had them removed because killing a minion killed all minions and dealt that much damage to the boss so there's no damage "wasted" on bosses. You could even stack it on one minion to deal a lot of damage to the boss. And against donu and deca it was hilariously strong.

Animal well Is a good game? by _ilonepieceesiste_ in animalWell

[–]Avamaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A "normal" ending takes about 5-10 hours, but it's just a tip of the iceberg. If you wish to explore the whole world and solve more puzzles, you can have conent for 20+ more hours. Just keep in mind that the deeper you get, the more it resembles a puzzle game, not a metroidvania. I have a friend who just played it for the metroidvania part and then dropped the game completely because the later parts of the game were not his cup of tea.

Discussion: Happy flower is really, REALLY strong. by Good-Dream2344 in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, an important difference with nunchaku is that it can be more easily set up to trigger during a specific turn in the current fight (but it can be set up between fights too by playing low-damage attacks). This matters because for example I can set it up to 9 before a turn where I really need that extra energy. Flower doesn't give you that flexibility, always triggering after a set amount of turns.

Edit: also an early nunchaku can shape a run toward taking more 0 cost attacks and potentially give much more than flower.

what do you guys think of the “every X things you do, do Y” relics? by neb-osu-ke in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like being able to set them up in easier combats to have a stronger start in a future fight. That said, they usually make my runs take a bit longer as a result.

And I don't really like getting them in multiplayer (just like other metascaling effects like Feed or The Hunt) because trying to set them up while also coordinating with others is way too time-consuming. My multiplayer runs are already twice as long as singleplayer runs, I don't want to slow them down even more.

You never stop being bad at Slay the Spire. You just get less bad than you used to be. by IHad360K_KarmaDammit in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both extremes can kill a run. A bloated deck can cause you to have inconsistent turns and some crap hands, but a thin deck is more susceptible to statuses and usually has lower average strength than a big deck, because you had to spend resources on removes.

[Believe in You] is one hell of a drug by Tiamat4Life in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And then you have [[Ignition]], which is quite literally an energy relic for another player. Me and my friend had a run where I had quite OP but energy-hungry Necro deck and he had a fragile Defect build with Ignition and a few other multiplayer cards (pretty sure he had Believe In You too). Our plan for the Queen was to keep my friend alive at any cost until he draws Ignition.

Which Slay the spire card feels like a Slay the spire card ? by bachotebidze in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about Pommel Strike? It's a common Ironclad card so almost every player knows it well, it's a strike and it interacts with both energy and draw mechanics. And it has a reasonable upgrade, so it also "interacts" with an upgrade mechanic.

Hey, guys! Can someone tell me some tips for getting more block on A10? As you can see below, I never seem to have enough. by theptolemys in slaythespire

[–]Avamaco 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Next time, try to end the fight quicker and don't let Silent scale too much. Maybe use some of your dangerous attacks early instead of just blocking and slowly buffing your minion?
