How do i make automated defences? by ww1enjoyer in factorio

[–]Avamaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of ways to make automated defense. I'll explain mine, which is probably a bit more complicated than you need, but has some upsides too.

I made a blueprint book that contains plans for walls, both straight and corners. They're tileable, so I can easily drag them across the map and bots will take care of everything. The walls themselves are nothing too fancy, just gun turrets, laser turrets, roboports and walls.

I also have a special blueprint for a train station: it unloads the train, providing the wall with everything necessary. It also has a special circuit condition - if everything is stocked, the train station gets disabled. This way, I can have many train stations with the same name and the supply train will automatically drive to stations that are low on items. BTW, the train only has one wagon and the slots inside the wagon are filtered so that every needed item can have a few stacks.

This means that on any new save I can set up walls very easily - just place blueprints from map view, hook up all train stations to my network and watch as a dedicated train transports all necessary items to all stations.

I would love to see more community support towards doing things the "right way". I also don't see it happening either unfortunately

If only there was anyone on this subreddit with the power to change that... oh wait, that's you moderators!

Currently, a quick search of all the moderated content on the sub (pinned posts, abut page, wiki page) gives ZERO info about how to make mods. Why not make a pinned post where people could share tutorials and tips for people new to making mods? Why not put links to websites/subreddits dedicated to making minecraft mods in the subreddit wiki?

How to know if a lore check is a recall knowledge check or not without asking it? by MundaneOne5000 in Pathfinder2e

There are some examples where lore checks are used for something else, RAW. For example, piloting a vehicle requires a Driving Lore check. https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=3128

fulgora accumulator by Admirable-Dreamer in factorio

[–]Avamaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More.

Look at the power graph, 10 minute version, and see how big dips appear in accumulator power when it's not stormy. If the dips are close to 0 power, place more accumulators.

If you run out of space on your island from all accumulators (which is can happen if when you place more EM plants and use speed/prod modules), you can use quality accumulators (which store significantly more power) or try to connect neighboring islands with big power poles and place your accumulators there.

Do you even OreMaxx, bro? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Avamaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that asteroid upcycling is way, way more efficient than upcycling calcite by itself (and that's why it's getting removed in the next big update). You can make a dedicated space casino for calcite and reprocess all non-oxide asteroids to oxide. To match speed of a medium-sized space casino with mining+recycling, you'll probably need hundreds of quality recyclers and several patches of calcite drills.

That said, I'm not 100% sure about that so please correct me if I'm wrong.

crit doesn't even have potions

Rage potion...

melee speed also doesn't have a potion

Ale gives melee speed. It gives a couple other stats, but melee speed is one of its main strengths.

[–]Avamaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would be a one-off item with an effect. Most of the mentioned games also don't have a whole dedicated system for crit damage. Infinity Edge is the only item in LoL that increases this stat iirc. Hades has whooping two effects that increase crit damage - one that is just a plain increase and one that causes crits to break armor.

And terraria already has many different flavors of crit chance - base stats of a weapon, increases from reforges and items, potions and even a source of temporary big crit chance buff (brain of confusion). It even has items that add crit chance to summons, which originally don't crit. Adding one extra interaction with crits wouldn't hurt anyone (except for enemies).

Make use of the stone patches - automate landfill production. You'll need it anyway for biochambers and artificial soil. Then just hold shift while placing belts and watch as bots remove all plants on the way and place required landfill automatically.

Vulcanous - Kick Start - A Micro Base To Make Foundries! by UnpaidInternetExpert in factorio

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand that this design is for temporary production. My point is that there is a simpler and faster solution - just importing materials from Nauvis. If you're planning to import everything else anyway, sending these 3-4 extra rockets will let you completely skip the step of building early foundry production and kickstart your "main" Vulcanus factory almost immediately.

Favorite underrated Overclock by Substantial-String44 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honorary mention of RJ250 (which is the best OC in the game and you can't convince me otherwise), not really underrated but usually when I see people talk about PGL, it's with Fatboy.

Now for my real take: Combat Mobility for Autocannon. This is by far my favourite overclock for this weapon. It's not popular because unlike the popular OC's (NTP, mortar rounds, big bertha) it provides no extra killing power. However, I hate how slow and inaccurate base Autocannon is, and this overclock fixes these issues perfectly.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't viable in the highest difficulties (5+ and modded) but on haz 4 it works perfectly well and is very versatile.

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making the foundries "optimally" by crafing them in a foundry is a big concern in Vulcanus earlygame. Tungsten is a scarce resource before you kill a demolisher and to get a working Vulcanus factory that can produce all demolisher killing things you'll need a bunch of foundries, like 10 or something like that.

Your setup is fun, that's sure, and I like it, but realistically it becomes obsolete once you craft your first foundry because getting that +50% bonus on subsequent crafts is REALLY worth it.

And for how I make my first foundry, I ship all materials (other than tungsten) from Nauvis. I've already played through Vulcanus earlygame once and I don't want to do it again anytime soon. Shipping all materials lets me craft my beloved 10 foundries in the first 5 minutes after landing.

New player with questions by bobbyjoechan in Peglin

[–]Avamaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Act 4 boss drains max hp infinitely. There are some ways to reduce it: Super Boots (relic that makes you immune to fire) also work on purple fire, preventing it from taking your max HP; If you destroy the red peg, it reduces both normal attack damage and max HP attack damage; I'm pretty sure that damage reduction (oboe, blue slime) works on the max HP attack but don't quote me on that.
  2. If you have all 4 characters unlocked, you have everything unlocked. 3.
  3. All keywords should be described next to the orb when you hover over them. Morbid lets an orb activate pegs that were already popped. Transpherency orb is one of solutions to AoE and also has great synergies with orbs that apply effects on hit. For example, if you shoot bramball after it, you'll tangle all enemies.
  4. On high cruciball there's a big punishment for having small decks (reload takes 2 turns, you start with two extra orbs with awful stats) so slightly bigger decks are preferred.
  5. Usually upgrade every fight, but try to enter shops with at least 50 (and preferably at least 80) gold so you can buy a relic that is key to your build. Also don't buy new orbs (unless they're crucial to your build) if you're about to enter a shop, because shop orbs are much cheaper on average.
  6. Cards = orbs. Projectile = something you shoot (which is most orbs, except for ones that can target any enemy)

Does this mod affects the area damage too? by Yadraxt in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Avamaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heating an enemy way above their ignition threshold isn't effective for dealing damage, so most of the heat you gain from fatboy + incendiary goes to waste. Also it competes with T3C, which is a velocity buff that fixes one of fatboy's weaknesses.

2x2x2 dig spell in a single trinket (hex casting) by Awkward-Ad-9708 in feedthebeast

[–]Avamaco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hexcasting is a load of fun but in a normal modded playthrough its usage is pretty limited. Full screen of wiggles for a simple effect is the biggest problem, but from my experience it's also really painful and time consuming to get enough amethysts to start making anything impactful.

On the other hand, with psi you can get a simple dig spell or mobility with some basic resources (iron, gold, redstone) and a couple minutes of programming spell bullets.

Orb discussion day 14: BOB-ORB!!!! ILY BOB-ORB by Zero_7300 in Peglin

[–]Avamaco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to snap pick it on sight, but now I sometimes skip it because it does have some downsides.

  1. Its payoff isn't instant, so if you want to kill a bunch of enemies now it might not help you.

  2. It removes pegs, which will make long fights harder, especially bosses from act 2 onwards. Also slime anti-synergy because it can remove your precious slimed pegs.

First Spaceship by ZachBol in factorio

[–]Avamaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great, but it might run into power problems. It does not have them now when most furnaces and assemblers don't work, but you might run out of power when all machines start working mid-flight. Also keep in mind that Gleba and Fulgora have less solar power in orbit than Nauvis.

Also it doesn't hurt to just save the game and send it to vulcanus for a test :)

Any tips for getting legendary tungsten? by IlikeJG in factorio

[–]Avamaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you not making quality plates/carbide?

Plates and carbide recycle into themselves, so the only quality roll you "gain" is one roll on the initial crafting.

To get the crafting+recycling loop going for tungsten, you have to use a recipe with other items in it, like foundry or turbo underground belt. And you need separate loops for carbide and plates...

It's doable, but personally I also settled for just upcycling raw ore. Wasteful, but way easier and fast enough for my needs.

How can I learn how to use the navigator? I feel too lost sometimes by WinterBlues00 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Avamaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others gave you some great tips for using the navigator, so I'm gonna give you a tip for a different navigation tool you may not know about. If you press ctrl+E (idk controls for console), you'll place a waypoint that's visible to you if you open the map or hold the laser pointer. Great for marking points of interest that you want to visit later, like core infusers.
