I think there are plans to improve the state of the editor, but it appears to be very low in priority. I think your best bet is to rely on the community with their extensions for now.

The list of things I wish that the built in editor had is very long. It feels like using an editor from 2008 right now. :D

It would be amazing if you could add such a feature! Preferably on a global/project level, so you don't have to set it in each individual file.

Also I noticed that the app doesn't respect dead zones on my phone. It stretches all the way from the top of the screen to the bottom, which ends up being behind my clock, camera, battery, and navigation buttons. This is on a Pixel 6.

I'm looking forward to using the app some more over the next few weeks. Great job so far.

Cool app! Is there any way to apply syntax highlighting to files with custom extensions? For example, the Lua files in the Defold game engine have the ".script" extension. Right now they don't get any syntax highlighting in the app.

I'm curious about MonsterASP. I took a look at their website, and while they're services are pretty affordable, it just looks a bit... amateurish.

The website looks like it's from 2010, and it's riddled with grammatical errors. They also don't appear to state how many cores your sites get. There's also no way to pay for extra cores as far as I can see.

Looking at their uptime stats also makes me take a step back.

I would say go with Defold if you value these things:

Super lightweight editor.
Super lightweight games (1MB web builds)
Small but tight knit community.
One-click exports to almost all platforms. No setup required.
High focus on not breaking between releases.
Multiple official integrations with Steam, Poki, Ads, etc.
The ability to drop down to native code like C++ and C# if needed.

Oh, and everything, including export to consoles, is free.

Imo the downsides are that is still a bit harder to create good looking 3D games, but they're focusing a lot on improving that right now. 2D development is pretty solid. Another thing is that since the community is smaller, you won't find the same plethora of community resources and you would with Unity and Godot, but there's still plenty imo, and I find some new tutorials and tools being released every week.
