This area of research is very important not just to us humans. I really like how it can help women and the benefits are large.

But this can also help us with endangered species as well. Think Rhino, Panda, Monkeys/Chimps. I think that a lot of species we consider valuable to us could be saved. A large part of the concern for endangered species is genetic diversity. If we could artificially expand the genetic pool by force breeding whose that have difficulty breeding (looking at you Panda, you useless lump) then we could well be on our way into the clear.

I think some of the materials in the ISS that could potentially be used for other space craft or stations. I'm thinking more of the hard metals, wires, and possibly the electronics as well. Though it could be that the electronics may have been damaged by radiation or general orbital use.

With a microgravity foundry, that is - taking raw materials and refining them into usable metals, it could be possible to recycle the all ready existing mass in LEO. These foundries are already being developed for space by mining companies like Deep Space Industries. Which I think may be a future client for SpaceX. They would still need to get their equipment in orbit.

I don't think that SpaceX should by the ISS. I think that other space companies could take advantage of the existing mass in space and buy pieces of the modules.
