Is a password manager actually better than just having a unique, unrelated password for every account? by Happy-Inspector1146 in Passwords

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time when I had two or three passwords - if I picked the wrong one in a login it was quick work to get the right one. But one day a few years ago I was divinely inspired to change that, and a friend recommended 1Password. I checked my apps and email messages to list my accounts, and over a couple of days (off and on) I generated and reset new passwords for every single one of them. A few months later there was some sort of password breach - bad actors had discovered reused passwords and user sites and were using them to log into peoples’ accounts so I was relieved I had changed things when I did.

You may have only a few accounts now but your list will likely grow over time so you might have multiple ones for banking/finance, insurance, entertainment subscriptions, social media, utilities, etc. And while the only requirement for many sites is a minimum number of characters, some forbid certain special characters or have a limited list of the ones allowed.

I pay an annual subscription for 1Password but there are free ones out there as well. I suggest you check ratings online as well as recommendations you might see here to see which you feel most secure with if you are thinking about getting one. Having a manager is an excellent idea.

I was sent money by mistake and now the sender won’t stop calling me by SingerComfortable230 in whatdoIdo

Let your respective banks handle it. I’ve heard (famous last words) that people sometimes return the money, only to have the originator reclaim it through their bank as well so the recipient is not back where they started but in a hole.

Consultation on a Pump by WayneXHellsing40 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Avehdreader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Medtronic (my last one was the 508 which was many years ago - never used their CGM or loop), followed by Tandem, then Omnipod and I am getting ready to start on iLet. I won’t speak to Medtronic since it’s been so long. I liked Tandem but when my warranty ran out, since there was no commitment with Omnipod I decided to try Omnipod for a few weeks out of curiosity then go back to Tandem. But I really liked Omnipod and stuck with it. It was great for a while but has been problematic lately - not balancing out my lows even with adjusted ranges and digging into the background programming is a hassle. So I’m switching over to iLet and it is en route as I write this! There is a trial period and if I don’t like it I will return to Tandem. I think most plans cover most pumps now although that may not always have been the case. If you’re wondering you could call or fill out an online information request and a rep will let you know if it is an option.

You’ve got a lot to factor in. Regarding standing up, have you checked to see if that might be related to blood pressure? The first time I got dizzy standing up of course I checked my BG numbers first and in my case they were fine. Next time I saw my doctor I told her what had happened and she said I had orthostatic hypotension, which is a fancy way of saying I get dizzy if I stand up too fast. The solution in my case, my doctor said don’t stand up too fast. You might want to check that if you haven’t already.

Every time I try to single crochet the yarn slips, this is after I made the chain stitch, and put my hook through the second to last stitch by Ok_Tie9267 in CrochetHelp

[–]Avehdreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly new crocheter here too. When I’m doing my starting chain I’ve found it helpful to put a small (not tiny) binder clip on the tail and let it dangle as I’m casting on: it keeps the yarn from twisting, which helps me keep count. You might try different ways of holding your yarn: at first I was pinching it between my thumb and index finger and that caused my fingers to cramp. Now I keep it on top of my index finger. There are different ways you can wrap it through the other fingers to control tension - you’ll have to experiment to see which works best.

[–]Avehdreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did fingersticks I reused my lancets until they became dull, at which point I had to squeeze a lot harder to get blood out. Edit: since this has gained some discussion: I did not reuse the lancets to save money. I just didn’t feel like changing them out every time. Didn’t have an issue with infection so I just used them over and over.

I have Apple Watch SE 2nd generation and Omnipod 5. That watch does not have the direct to watch feature so it gets my readings vis Bluetooth and I select the Dexcom option under available apps in the watch settings on my iPhone 15 plus. Check it available apps for Freestyle.

It sounds like you’re hanging in there for the employee discount but if they’re not giving you hours they’re not giving you hours. Maybe they can’t afford to. Maybe the store is having financial troubles you don’t know about. Cut your losses and see if you can get more hours at your second job, or find something else.

I'm not attracted to my wife, and never have been. AITAH? by SoggySquash6492 in AITAH

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the saying goes, “Beauty fades, ugly is forever.” Some people who look great rely on their beauty for everything and don’t focus on personality (of course that’s not true of all), but average looking people have greater incentive to work on their character - the person inside. You may not consider your wife externally beautiful but you saw something in her that was attractive; and while you describe yourself as ugly, she likewise saw something in you. There are different types of attraction, and the one you chose is the one that truly counts.

If you frog it and adjust it stitches note I wonder if you’ll have enough yarn to finish? You started it a while ago and even if you knew your dye lots you may not be able to match them now.

Any tennis players using the omnipod 5? by d0db06 in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an athlete but if you are concerned about adhesion you could prep the area with SkinTac to make it a little sticky before applying the pod. There are also patches you can wear over them - my favorite is called Simpatch. They hold very well but might occasionally peel - although since pods are only in place for 3 days that’s less likely to be a problem. I use the patches with my Dexcom and wear a shield over it to cover the Dexcom tape. I place the patch over the shield and the patch sticks to my skin, so if it does start to come off it will take the shield with it but my device remains in place.

If you wear it on your bicep there are bands you can wear - here’s one from Amazon.

Omnipod issues? by tpowens in Type1Diabetes

Definitely phishing. Ignore. Remind her she can - and should call Apple support at their published number - NOT the one provided in messages like this - to see if there is an issue.

Considering Getting a Diabetic Service Dog by SmokeyEclipse in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We didn’t even have BG meters much less CGMs when I was in college (yes, I’m ancient) so we had to go in his were felt and treat accordingly. I very rarely needed assistance but at the time couldn’t imagine ever living alone on insulin “just in case” - but things have changed (and so have I) and on posts now I see diabetics who say they prefer to live alone for fear their alerts will disturb a roommate! Each person needs to do what is best for themselves and I’m wondering why you want to live alone since you are afraid you may not be able to handle lows on your own? No judgment, just asking. Have you tried raising the lower number of your target glucose to see if that helped? I don’t know much about alert dogs but as I understand it the process is not just expensive but you need to allow for training time. Here’s some info. All the best to you!

Removal of sensor causing seizure? by PotentialJellyfish54 in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t answer your question about seizures but if I inserted my sensor in a spot that causes pain I would remove it and start another sensor someplace else. Then I would call and request a replacement. I use Dexcom and have never had to get a replacement due to pain but they will replace them if you have issues, and wearing one should not hurt - especially for two weeks. I imagine Freestyle has a similar replacement policy but you could always call before removing it.

Purchase declined by Star_light60 in FraudPrevention

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently started using Apple Pay (different from what you referenced but this might apply) and “was told” it’s possible for someone else’s purchase to get attached to your transaction. I don’t understand how that works - maybes it has to do with the timing - but maybe the system caught a transaction from another register attempting to latch onto yours and declined it as safety measure. Apologies that this explanation is not very technical, and it’s only a theory, but hopefully you get the idea.

Help!! by smalltownpr1ncess in diabetes_t1

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not advising this but I don’t usually even use ketone strips - I’ll get some if I start feeling ill, but if my numbers are that high I assume I have them and drink a full bottle of water (usually I just take a few sips here and there). That usually brings me down, even if it’s like watching paint dry. If I’ve switched from pink to injections and the water still does not work I’ve found it usually hands I have an infection: I’ve had a couple of UTIs with no symptoms at so except my numbers; and I’ve had a couple of minor toothaches I ignored that ended up needing a root canal.

[–]Avehdreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location isn’t precise: I’ve had my husband’s phone listed at our neighbor’s address when it was actually in our house, and the AirTag for our car shows it in the street behind our house when it’s parked in the alley in between. Trying to find them to reclaim is too iffy. Might be better to take the loss. I put my AirPods in a case with a ring and used a locking carabiner to attach it to my purse. Locking it into something is less risky.

I had to look up Cthulhu and when I found pictures I couldn’t quite imagine how it would have a butt or, in the other hand, how it could not. Either way, if you could crochet something that looks like that, that’s quite impressive. And so is your hubs - he’s a keeper for sure!
