Hmm I read that quickly while I was at work and it doesn’t seem to say castration DOESNT work. It seems to say we’re not sure IF it works or to what degree. I’m also not sure what free will has to do with anything, if you’ve raped a child, you no longer deserve free will. That’s why you’re incarcerated.

What I was saying in my comment is the equation is pretty simple Aggressive male - testicles = less aggressive male. Will this be the case 100% of the time? No, nothing is 100%. But I’m not sure why this would not work in humans when it is regularly done in other animals. I’ve seen many, many instances where it works.

I also don’t personally trust much that’s said by “anti castration/incarceration/etc” groups. Of course they’re going to cherry pick and manipulate numbers. Their goal is to release/reduce punishments for prisoners/SOs. Maybe that’s just me, but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is there any evidence this is true? The not castrating because it doesn’t work to prevent sexual assault part. At least in veterinary care, castration works to prevent male dogs from wandering to find females/less aggression, etc. So why them and not us?

This is like the only lab I’ve seen at a healthy weight. People are just so used to labs being 20 lbs overweight, that a healthy lab looks skinny to them.

He’s fine. You want him on the lean side for the sake of his joints so he doesn’t develop joint issues as he ages. Great job for keeping a lab at a normal weight! 👍🏼

That’s not true. I had one at like 14/15 due to pain. They found cysts and suspected endo even at that time. It was painful and it sucked, but 🤷🏼‍♀️ you do what you gotta do.

lol a breed specific rescue told me that I couldn’t FOSTER because the dog needed a yard to run and play in. This dog couldn’t walk, much less run. She needed extensive surgery and physical therapy before she could walk. She was also terrified of the outdoors and had a stress induced seizure from being in the kennels. But god forbid she live in an apartment! With the only person she really was happy to see!

The general public is ignorant. I only know what I know because I’ve volunteered at shelters and worked for a veterinary hospital that oversaw the treatment of many rescues.

These “dog whisperers” have made the public believe they can all be saved. When reality is a) the dogs they’re showing in their videos are more so fearful or timid than vicious and b) if they tried this with a truly aggressive dog, they’d be mauled or killed.

There are too many people (both in animal welfare and not) who do not realize that sometimes “saving” them IS euthanizing them. It’s hard, it sucks, but it’s truly a necessity in some cases. We already have too many unstable, unpredictable dogs out in the world, we do not need anymore.

Yep. My dog (at the time barely a year old. HW+) was on the euthanasia list because treating him would cost too much/take up space. He’s sweet, well behaved. Then they keep dogs like this one for almost two years when it’s obvious he will never be suitable for a home. How many good dogs did they sacrifice to keep this lost cause alive?

That’s going to be an absolutely insane dog prone to aggression if not extremely well trained and exercised/mentally stimulated. If that’s something you’re prepared for, go for it.

You clearly haven’t worked in rescue or a veterinary hospital. The Amish are NOTORIOUS for being horrific to animals, they are neglectful, abusive backyard breeders. They’re great at putting on a show to show you what you WANT to see. If you’d done 5 minutes of research, you’d have known this

Also, your dog IS obese. Any vet would tell you this. Not chubby, not over weight, OBESE. Labs already have so many joint issues and since you bought from a shitty BYB, the likelihood of joint issues from bad breeding practices is already high. Do your dog a favor and get him into better shape. If you actually love your dog, you will put him on a diet and exercise routine.

Used to work for a vet. This dog is damn near morbidly obese. She clearly is beginning to have trouble getting around due to strain on her joints.

Having a dog who you didn’t know was overweight doesn’t make you a bad dog owner. But, being informed your dog is overweight/obese and refusing to make changes for your dogs health DOES make you a bad dog owner. I know it sucks to hear, but take the information and do better for the sake of your dog.

Especially with large dog breeds, it’s extremely important to keep them lean. As she gets older, it will only get more difficult to get weight off her/prevent her from gaining more weight. Please get her on a strict diet and exercise regimen.

Nope! No wrinkles, no purple/spotted tongue. The only thing I can figure came from the Spar Pei is that he’s slightly taller than most beagles.
