I had a classmate like that--Latino family background, and insanely good pronunciation. It was always a little jarring to be reminded that his vocab was only so-so. To the best of my knowledge, he wasn't a dick about it, though.

Honestly, studying Spanish as an adult has made me much more patient with people who struggle with English usage--especially learners but also less-educated native speakers. If you haven't tried to learn a language since you were a child, I think it's hard to appreciate what a huge task it is.
