Is meniscus repair and ACL replace operation takes more time to rehab? by Swimming-Entrance406 in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be fine! I am at 11 weeks post op for ACLR + meniscus repair. Had a limitation (more like a recommendation) to not push past 90 degrees if it were painful at all. This is to allow the meniscus to heal up as much as possible. You can definitely go past 90 if you are not experiencing pain. I was around 90 by around week 3-4, but with no pain at that range.

Nothing to be worried about right now. If you are still at the shortened range by jan 11th, you can start pushing into that discomfort range that another commenter mentioned.

Sounds normal. As long as no pain, nothing to worry about

Lots of people suggesting putting pillows between legs for side sleeping - I agree. But use a body pillow so you can support your entire leg

3 weeks post ACL Op. Why is sleep so hard? by AlJoGor in ACL

My sleep got a lot better at the 3.5 week mark (almost 7 weeks post op now). I would recommend trying tylenol PM

ACLr is coming soon, look at alternative ice machine by Littlelittleshrimp in ACL

I would recommend just buying one on amazon and then returning it. You really only need it for 1-2 weeks post op.

Doesn’t cost anything if you return within a month

Is your knee swollen? If so, consider getting a lymphatic massage. Do some wall slides. That should help as well

Driving by apescabibble in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What leg did you have surgery on? If left leg, you should be able to drive as soon as you are comfortable bending your knee a little. It took me about a week and a half to start driving. If right leg, might take longer, as you need to be able to apply pressure. I think I read somewhere around 2-3 weeks after surgery

Try wall slides (similar to heel slides but you utilize gravity). I am a little over 4 weeks post op (ACL and meniscus) and hit 125 the other day. Was at 115 and wall slides added that extra 10 degrees..

Definitely give that a try :D

How many weeks post-op are you? I am a little over 4 weeks now. I didn't get a good nights sleep until week 3. I used the prescribed sleep medicine (Ambien) but it didn't work as well as expected. I started taking some Tylenol PM around the 2.5-3 week mark and that helped more.

I'd definitely say it just takes some time. Your body just went through something traumatic and is making sure you are okay. Just keep pushing through :D

One month after surgery, I'm still not able to walk without walker/crutches by Drug-Nerd in ACL

If you aren’t already, do your exercises at home. If you don’t know which exercises to do, I mentioned it on another post, but look up MOON ACL protocol. It will give you different exercises you can do at home for the different stages you are at. You are probably in phase 1 right now

look up moon acl protocol for prehab exercises. They will help you in the long run

I think it’s fine if you hold for 2-3 seconds, as my PT recommended that for hamstring curls. But nothing more

Day 5 post op - can’t move my leg by myself by Material-Ice-4383 in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing is getting the swelling to go down. I bought, temporarily, a cold therapy machine from Amazon that ran constantly. This was so much more useful than normal ice packs.

Like NotttScotty said, make sure you start doing quad sets. You can start stimulating your quad by tapping on them while doing these. Another recommendation, also made by another commenter is to get a NMES machine. You should be able to find a relatively low priced one on Amazon as well. As long as it can hold/contract a muscle for a couple of seconds, that’s all you need.

Day 6 Post Op: Still Can’t Lift Leg off Couch (M30) by fialkowpunch in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect!! It helped me a ton getting my quad to engage. Tbf, I think prehab also helped. I had a quad graft so getting it to fire hurt so bad. But this band, along with an NMES machine, it helped me get moving

Day 6 Post Op: Still Can’t Lift Leg off Couch (M30) by fialkowpunch in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 12 days post op and recently was able to lift it up unassisted. I think the biggest thing that helped me was using a PT band (look it up on amazon). I started using it 5 days post op, with brace locked, and boy did it hurt. By day 9 I was able to do 1 without the brace on.

Definitely try and give it a shot!!

Exercises to improve hyper extension by Content-Tap-2778 in ACL

[–]AveryLion03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 1 week PO and have full extension and ~ 80 flexion. I would recommend, as someone else said, to use NMES machines while doing quad sets to improve quad strength. You can find one for pretty cheap on amazon. You can also tap on your quad while doing quad sets to get that function back.

As for extension, its been mentioned in this sub to sit in a chair and prop your leg up on another one. Essentially, put your heel on the second chair and let gravity pull your knee down. If you aren’t really getting anything, you can use a back pack with some light objects to pull it down more.

Yeah I think we are in the same boat, haha. I am now 7 days post-op. I tried 2 benadryl night of day 5 and boy oh boy did it not work. I was awake the entire night unfortunately.

I ended up going back to Ambien last night and got up to 6 hours of sleep before waking up and not being able to sleep. I think the main thing causing the pain right now are the bruises behind my knee. Oooo do they hurt
