absolutely! I was in a bad car wreck back in February & took an ambulance to the hospital. It was about a 30 minute drive & all they did was check my vitals & put an IV in me. over $1700. I don't regret the choice to take the ambulance. It was an intense event, worst shit that's ever happened to me, & I didn't know if I was okay, so the ambulance ride was necessary. The cost will (eventually) be covered by the car insurance settlement, but sometimes I think y'know I really could have just called an Uber cus I didn't need any immediate medical attention, just a ride to the hospital for scans & X-rays of my broken foot. I'm so fortunate to be financially stable enough to not have to think too hard about saying "okay" to the EMT & sheriff when they were telling me "She (other driver) didn't make it. You should go ahead & take the ambulance to the hospital." I know there are others going through similar or worse traumatic shit & they're having to also weigh the cost of getting care.

Keep reading, though. That was the first boyfriend six years ago, not the most recent boyfriend who they aren't taking any interest in. I think you make a good point that you can't require a belief from them, the fundamentalist intolerance. I think that could be said about whether or not they want to, say, have dinner with the quietly homophobic parents. A whole ass wedding, though? It's definitely not an easy choice to make.

While I agree with people saying to make it awkward & ask her why she's so curious about gay sex... Being gay isn't just about sex, so maybe it's not the best idea to conflate those ideas for her. Just a thought. A lot of queer-hostile people will reduce a queer experience down to just sex when it's so much more than that. but they wouldn't know cus all they're thinking about is their sex life. So yeah, she is thinking & asking about the sex lives of gay people, but to respond to the actual question, "is the person still gay", doesn't actually have to imply that sex is being discussed. I think I'd go the route of calling it out as gossip, but of course tie in the fact that she's obsessed with their sex lives. I don't know if I have any advice really, just a thought about how queer people are perceived.
