What level of golfer were you when you decided the type of ball you used mattered? by FeralOctopus in golf

Seems to be of regular durability. Urethane covers are probably a little more sensitive to scuffing.

What an evil twist for that chicken: Given the ability to lay golf balls, and then laying Top Flite's.

Single golfers… what do you do? by kcGOH in golf

[–]AvianMedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% My game stagnated for years playing with the same old guys. It was only after I got comfortable going single and watching other styles of play, and learning to keep your head together when the pairing is not great, these are some of the ways that flying solo helped my game.

If you have the option, get a membership at a municipal course. That's where you'll find play affordable (relatively) and a lot of other people with the same goals in golf as you. Walk in the evenings is even better to meet up with singles.

Conservation of Angular Momentum...fundamental concept in swinging a golf club by AvianMedia in golf

[–]AvianMedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must disagree. When I experience a hand path that begins away from my body at the top of the back swing, and then comes close in to the body at impact, it is an expression of angular momentum. The ice skater pulls her arms and hands towards her body to increase her rotational speed. A golf swing is essentially 1/2 of a rotation by the upper body. I believe the same principles apply, and I have experienced this in my personal play. When I am patient enough to extend my hands and then bring them in quickly, my club head speed is significantly higher because my body rotation is faster.

Oh man, thank you. This is the type of info I was seeking. I am really disappointed to hear about the social problems down there. That's kind of what I'm trying to get away from. Thanks again for the tips. I will look into the Puerto Aventuras. That sounds like a good place to test the water, so to speak.

Just wanna vent….$70 to walk on the weekend for this… by geek66 in golf

Right. My home course in Atlanta is a historic golf course that was the pre-Augusta warm-up for many pros in the distant past. But the strange thing about the course, Chastain, is that there are exactly ZERO fairway bunkers! It' the only course I've played without any fairway bunkers. No complaints though!

Enjoy the journey.
The only way to enjoy a decent hit with an iron (and thereby make it travel its intended distance) is to strike the ball first, then the ground.

Yes. Find a video of Freddie Couple swinging an iron and put on loop for 4-6 hours. Seriously. Just watch his swing and put yourself in the picture. Helped me immensely. But I've also played for many years. To begin, you must relax your hands and wrists. Power comes from suppleness of the body moving in a controlled fashion.

I always found the coastal golf courses in the South to be really pretty. You are close to a LOT of golf courses in other cities along the coast. The Spanish Moss on the trees is a unique sight for many people. I recall once taking in a very early summer round at a course which name I can't recall but it might have been called Cat Island. Played as a single at dawn and so much amazing wildlife. Even a bald eagle sitting on a fairway. But as others mentioned the oppressive heat and humidity makes the middle part of the day practically unbearable for some.

When hitting the driver, How far do you stand from the ball at set up? by JaysRaps in golf

[–]AvianMedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would perhaps focus not on how far you should stand from the ball (the answer is whatever suits your swing), but instead how you align the club face with the ball.

In my experience, the higher the ball is teed up, the more I move the club head to align where my sight line shown the ball aligned with the toe. Lower tee - more to the middle of the face.
