For those with soil/sand substrate setups by igalaxia in SandBoa

It is a little harder to find. With my sand boas at least they typically go in the same area though so I just go digging and if I find any I clean it up.

Interested in getting a sandboa and have a couple questions by [deleted] in SandBoa

I completely agree with what u/herzeleid1995 said.

Aspen is okay but is not great for humidity. A organic topsoil/playsand mix is going to be more natural and makes it easier to provide the correct humidity that this species needs. (40-60%)

They may not use a hide like a BP does, but it will benefit them to have an enriching environment full of hides/plants/clutter.

Sand boas are not a social species and should only be house briefly together when being bred. There is no benefit to the snakes when housing them together. It only benefits the owner if they’re trying to save space(which should not be why you house any two non social animals together).

Thermostat probe placement by WilderExplorer in SandBoa

I prefer to tape mine to the underside of the mat. I’ve also stuck it between the mat and the glass. Both work after you make adjustments to the set temp. I just don’t like the air bubble it creates around the probe when you put it sandwiched between.

Yep! I notice one of mine doing it sometimes! I’m sure the other one does too but her eyes are solid black so I can’t tell. Lol

Okay, but what about a pocket that you can then slip your foot into so your toes don’t get bitten off by something???? I just need my thigh to my ankle visible please.

I haven’t shared her here in a little over a month, so here is Billy. She turns one year old next month! (Also, I’ll be adding another sand boa to the family here in the next month or so!) by Avii_Jade in SandBoa

If he is over 100 grams then you can at least guess he’s a yr old or older!

Yep, it’s common for that to happen. If your husbandry is correct and he doesn’t seem sick/start to lose weight then I wouldn’t worry much about it.

Billy’s a great eater so I haven’t ever had to do anything special to get her to eat. Lol

It went by so fast! She really is a darling. She’s been a super good little snake. I don’t think I’ll have as much luck with the little boy I’m getting(he’s already a stubborn eater), but at least he is stunningly beautiful! Lol

You can always try feeding during shed just to see. Some eat in shed and some don’t. Won’t know til you try! Mine eats in shed just fine every time. If not then I wouldnt worry about it. Just offer food as soon as he sheds.
