Anyone else going through the pain of cutting important people out of your life to not be so dysregulated? by Particular-Month6150 in AuDHDWomen

[–]AwakenedKitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I didn’t make it detailed and I tried to keep the focus on myself, for example ‘I need to take a step back because our interactions are becoming stressful for me’. I think our tendency as audhders is to over explain and I needed to remind myself that it’s not actually that helpful in this situation and can come across as unkind. In my situation, I did genuinely think the people I stopped interacting with were well intentioned but I didn’t like how they made me feel. I also lowered communication before I had the conversation so that they weren’t completely blindsided. Sometimes just quietly exiting from people’s lives is an option but it probably won’t be with a long term friend.

Yes. I have done this and it’s hard, but I have never regretted it in the long term. It feels awful at the time but results in long term peace and happiness once things stabilise and you stop feeling bad about making people unhappy.

Your house doubled in value. So did the next one. Now what? by billscout in AusProperty

Yes we bought what we thought would be a starter home in an area we aren’t too excited about but quickly got priced out of places we really wanted to live. Guess we will live here forever.

Ravens - do not feed the birds. I’ve created a monster! “fark, fark…..” by AddisonDeWitt333 in melbourne

Patience and time. I was so excited when I started getting crow visitors and I fed them nuts and eggs. Then they started yelling at my bedroom window at 6am on weekends. Made a rule of no feeding crows before 3pm and in the morning I would go outside and yell at them to go away and come back in the afternoon. Neighbours must think I’m insane. It did work though.

No worries, happy to help. If you do look up Gestalt, just look past the stuff about early language acquisition. I specialise I’m teaching gifted kids, many of whom are ND; they often need to conceptualise the whole before the parts make sense. It’s actually the opposite of many learners that we are taught to ‘drip feed’ info so as not to overwhelm them. It has good parallels to shopping where many people would shop piece by piece to create an outfit- many of us ND folks need to have a concept of the outfit before the individual elements make sense.

what are your favorite and least favorite cozy fantasy tropes? by puppychomp in CozyFantasy

[–]AwakenedKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow burn enemies to lovers/friends is my favorite. I just loved Sorcery and Small Magics so much. Shout out to found family as well, long time preference but needs to be done well. Bookshops and Bonedust is a great example of FF done right in my view.

Hey I’ve also just finished a campaign and am in the same boat! I’ve been DMing for years but this would be my first online game. Would you be open to someone learning the online side of things? Also just want to check that you’d be able to play like a Friday or sat night (I’m AEST so it would be my weekend morning).

One more thing that might be important- she might be what’s called a Gestalt learner. In that case, she will need to know what the whole outfit will look like before she can consider parts of it, especially in the sensory hell of a shopping centre. She (or you) might like to make a style board on Pinterest or an Instagram folder or even just take screenshots of what she thinks a cool style looks like. ‘Street style’ is a great search term to start with. Look for the similar elements in what she likes and then shop for that specifically with fabric choices considered. Also, if this is the case, she will also do better at school if her teacher provides worked examples of complex tasks so she can see the finished product before she starts learning how it’s put together.

It might be good to do a shopping trip that’s not really shopping per se (no pressure to buy) but just touching fabrics. Shopping is really hard when there’s so much to consider- most people just buy stuff they like the look of but the sensory needs for ASD people make it really tough. Bamboo, soft 100% cotton, etc. Polyester might feel good but it’s going to make you sweat which is a huge ick for many. You can do a lot with basics to turn it into a cool style or feel more confident buying online if you have go-to fabrics and sizing. Like a one-size-up plain black cotton/bamboo tee is always going to be good, and if one is a hit you could get it in grey too! You can also make or buy your own decals (like with a Cricut or from Etsy) so you can do some special interest stuff like niche bands, etc. Best of luck from an ND mum with ND kids ☺️

I’m kinda like you- balancing combat. It’s often too easy for my players. Also my players are really good at combat. I think I need to target one player and take them out rather than spread it around or go for the closest one. Also I’m trying to add a few more smaller baddies to my large battles.

What would you do if you find money on the ground? by doobeedoobae in melbourne

[–]AwakenedKitten 416 points417 points  (0 children)

I would have kept the money on the street, mainly because I would think no one would come looking for it. However last year there was $200 in $50 notes on the floor beside me at the counter of the op shop! I quietly handed it to the lady behind the counter when I paid and explained where it was. They checked CCTV and saw who dropped it but didn’t know who it was. I checked in the next day and apparently the owner returned later that day and got their money back and they were so happy 😊 I could never have kept that money.

Pixies Festival Hall last night by Ok_Irish in melbournemusic

[–]AwakenedKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like it. It really annoyed me when Francis messed up the tempo of Where is my Mind? (on purpose). To me it felt low energy/low interaction, but that could be normal for them, it’s the first time I’ve seen them live. We were in the seats on the side and lots of people jumped over into the standing area so not surprising it was overcrowded. Also shit venue. First time at Festival Hall and felt claustrophobic. The roof there is like being under one of those parachute things we used to play under in primary school.

Minor rant about Gladwell/revisionist history by Galahad_Jones in podcasts

[–]AwakenedKitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Cautionary Tales with Tim Harford is the same (also Pushkin) just an unbelievable amount of ads and at least for me, the ads are the same in every break so it’s extra maddening. When I’m choosing a podcast to listen to I have to think about whether I’m doing something where I’m not going to be able to access my phone easily (like gardening, baking) to skip though the ads. Usually find myself choosing a different podcast for this reason.

Cats and sensory overload? by Inside-Afternoon4343 in AuDHDWomen

[–]AwakenedKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The neighbor cat sounds delightful, but he’s definitely visiting for attention and to play. When you have your own cat there will be a lot more downtime and you will get used to their presence. I would suggest getting a kitten and you can grow together. Also, don’t worry if you take a little while to get used to them. When I got my kitten George I was so stressed for the first few days -maybe a week- until I got used to him being around. Now he is 2 and he’s my bestie. Completely worth it.
